I am not a fan of Nollywood movies (Nigerian movies) but I still watch them at times. The reason is that they don’t have a good story arc most of the time and they don’t end their movies well. But in recent days Nollywood has been improving over time.

This movie titled EAGLE WINGS is all about the story of the Nigerian armed forces. Citizens of Nigeria watching this can surely relate while watching the movie. The movie tells a story about how our men put their lives on the line to make the country a better place to be for everyone.

Most times when I watch military movies but it’s most of the time Bollywood or Hollywood movies. But this time around Nollywood is turning it around.

It’s said that the casts in the movie were named in remembrance of the fallen heroes that put their lives on the line for their country. I would have underrated the movie at first but after watching one-quarter of the movie it got my full attention with the suspenseful story line.

It’s not predictable just like any on their Nollywood. It’s a movie filled with action war moves. A movie that explores a tragic and thrilling moment of fighting for life, peace, and freedom.

THE PLOT

The beginning.

Eagle wings begin with a scene of a military officer Nura Yusuf giving up himself after hearing the gunshot from the terrorists who must have killed a disabled man while they were about to join them in hiding.

Flashing back to a month before the incident happened, was Nura getting married, the military officers in action with their amazing parades, and I love the moments too.

After their marriage not even lasting up to weeks, her husband was called to duty to serve his beloved country leaving behind his newlywed at home. She was so worried for his safety. He made her rest assured of the fact that he would be back home safe and healthy. She breaks the news of her being pregnant.

His first mission was a success then he embarked on the next mission before his plane suffered a serious crash in the rebel territory. As a wise officer, it’s left for him to find a way to survive and make sure he gets to a safe zone before the rescue team can find him.

Sequel to his absence, his fellow pilots, Paul, and Yisa were sent with a search team. Their first mission failed due to the attack they got from the terrorists who had thought the pilot invaded their territory. The attack got a soldier down and the soldiers had to retreat for a reformation.

This time around Paul suggested that they should go in the opposite direction because Nura will surely go that way. Before they could take off for the mission Nura was already in a village and got help from a lady Aisha who made him stay the night. The next morning the villagers gathered and told Nura to leave for his base to prevent the terrorist attack on them. He assured them his team would come to the rescue.

Intermission

He came in contact with one of the terrorists who happened to have his mother catered for in the Air Force camp and got her eyesight restored. She persuaded her son not to join the insurgence group because the government catered to their families.

This memory flashed through Baku's mind and he stopped his attack on the lost pilot after seeing the air force logo on his chest. He allowed him to escape and return to deliver his message to the terrorist general Korinjo of an ambush attack. Immediately they left for their base.

The search team appeared at the scene and found Nura, the team asked him to evacuate the village and leave the villagers but he insisted on staying, he promised to keep them safe no matter what. The told his co-pilot to place a call to the general commander, after making himself clear, the commander made it a mission to be accomplished.

One night Baku out of guilt shot his gun several times to the sky; the search unit with the helicopter detected Korinjo’s territory and reported immediately. The team formed a unit and made their attack the next morning.

It was a battle of bloodshed. Baku released the captured fugitives and sent them to safety. He returned to his boss Korinjo and declared his mission of disloyalty and betrayal towards him. Korinjo used him as a hostage to escape but sadly met his demise unexpectedly with a sniper shot.

The end

The Air Force team arrived at their base with a mission accomplished. Paul reunited with his wife again and was happy together with his co-pilots. After six months he hosted a party inviting Baku and his mother for a reunion. Baku already became a nice man about to get married to Aisha, one of the captives from the village.

My views on the movie

After watching this movie I would say the writer/producer must have done exceptionally well making sure he got some of the tactics and techniques of the armed forces. He did well but there’s always room for improvement and criticism. I love the story arc and how it must have portrayed how these terrorists claim their rights wrongly and put the blame for them being what they are on the government.

Conclusion

If I were to rate this movie on a scale of 10 I would give it a ranking of 7/10. I am sure after getting more opinions from the public they would surely be an improvement. Nollywood has been performing outstandingly well in the movie industry. I hope they can get more international recognition than their present status.

No soy fan de las películas de Nollywood (películas nigerianas), pero aún así las veo a veces. La razón es que no tienen un buen arco argumental la mayoría de las veces y no terminan bien sus películas. Pero en los últimos días Nollywood ha ido mejorando con el tiempo.

Esta película, titulada EAGLE WINGS, trata de la historia de las fuerzas armadas nigerianas. Los ciudadanos de Nigeria que la vean se sentirán identificados. The movie tells a story about how our men put their lives on the line to make the country a better place to be for everyone.

La mayoría de las veces que veo películas militares son de Bollywood o Hollywood. Pero esta vez Nollywood le está dando la vuelta.

Se dice que los actores de la película fueron nombrados en recuerdo de los héroes caídos que arriesgaron sus vidas por su país. Al principio no la habría valorado lo suficiente, pero después de ver una cuarta parte de la película, el suspense de su argumento captó toda mi atención.

No es predecible, como ninguna otra de Nollywood. Es una película llena de acción y movimientos bélicos. Una película que explora un momento trágico y emocionante de lucha por la vida, la paz y la libertad.

LA TRAMA

El comienzo.

Alas de águila comienza con una escena en la que un militar, Nura Yusuf, se entrega tras oír el disparo de los terroristas, que deben haber matado a un hombre discapacitado cuando estaban a punto de reunirse con ellos para esconderse.

Retrocediendo a un mes antes de que ocurriera el incidente, estaba Nura casándose, los militares en acción con sus increíbles desfiles, y me encantan los momentos también.

Después de que su matrimonio no durara ni siquiera unas semanas, su marido fue llamado a filas para servir a su amado país dejando atrás a su recién casada en casa. Ella estaba muy preocupada por su seguridad. Él le aseguró que volvería a casa sano y salvo. Le da la noticia de que está embarazada.

Su primera misión fue un éxito y luego se embarcó en la siguiente antes de que su avión sufriera un grave accidente en territorio rebelde. Como buen oficial, le queda encontrar la manera de sobrevivir y asegurarse de llegar a una zona segura antes de que el equipo de rescate pueda encontrarle.

Tras su ausencia, sus compañeros pilotos, Paul y Yisa, fueron enviados con un equipo de búsqueda. Su primera misión fracasó debido al ataque que recibieron de los terroristas, que pensaban que el piloto había invadido su territorio. El ataque se saldó con un soldado abatido y los soldados tuvieron que retirarse para reformarse.

Esta vez Paul sugirió que deberían ir en dirección contraria porque Nura seguramente iría en esa dirección. Antes de que pudieran despegar para la misión Nura ya estaba en un pueblo y consiguió ayuda de una señora Aisha que le hizo pasar la noche. A la mañana siguiente los aldeanos se reunieron y le dijeron a Nura que se marchara a su base para evitar el ataque terrorista contra ellos. Les aseguró que su equipo acudiría al rescate.

Intermedio

Entró en contacto con uno de los terroristas que casualmente tenía a su madre atendida en el campamento de las Fuerzas Aéreas y le devolvieron la vista. Convenció a su hijo de que no se uniera al grupo insurgente porque el gobierno atendía a sus familias.

Este recuerdo pasó por la mente de Baku y detuvo su ataque contra el piloto perdido tras ver el logotipo de la Fuerza Aérea en su pecho. Le permitió escapar y volver para entregar su mensaje al general terrorista Korinjo de un ataque emboscado. Inmediatamente partieron hacia su base.

El equipo de búsqueda apareció en el lugar y encontró a Nura, el equipo le pidió que evacuara el pueblo y dejara a los aldeanos pero él insistió en quedarse, prometió mantenerlos a salvo pasara lo que pasara. El le dijo a su copiloto que hiciera una llamada al comandante general, despues de dejarlo claro, el comandante hizo que se cumpliera la mision.

Una noche Bakú fuera de culpa disparó su arma varias veces al cielo; la unidad de búsqueda con el helicóptero detectó el territorio de Korinjo e informó inmediatamente. El equipo formó una unidad y realizó su ataque a la mañana siguiente.

Fue una batalla sangrienta. Bakú liberó a los fugitivos capturados y los puso a salvo. Regresó ante su jefe Korinjo y declaró su misión de deslealtad y traición hacia él. Korinjo lo utilizó como rehén para escapar, pero lamentablemente encontró la muerte inesperadamente con un disparo de francotirador.

El final

El equipo de las Fuerzas Aéreas llegó a su base con la misión cumplida. Paul volvió a reunirse con su mujer y fue feliz junto a sus copilotos. Al cabo de seis meses organizó una fiesta invitando a Baku y a su madre a una reunión. Baku ya se había convertido en un buen hombre a punto de casarse con Aisha, una de las cautivas del pueblo.

Mi opinión sobre la película

Después de ver esta película diría que el guionista/productor debió de hacerlo excepcionalmente bien asegurándose de captar algunas de las tácticas y técnicas de las fuerzas armadas. Lo hizo bien pero siempre se puede mejorar y criticar. Me encanta el arco argumental y cómo debe haber retratado cómo estos terroristas reclaman sus derechos erróneamente y echan la culpa de que sean lo que son al gobierno.

Conclusión

Si tuviera que puntuar esta película en una escala de 10 le daría un 7/10. Estoy seguro de que después de conocer más opiniones del público seguramente mejoraría. Nollywood ha tenido una actuación sobresaliente en la industria cinematográfica. Espero que consigan un reconocimiento internacional mayor que el actual.
