Everybody thinks that dying teaches you something about life but they are wrong. The only way to learn about life is by living and I learnt that every moment is your moment.Sometimes the moments are messy, sometimes they are beautiful or scary or just plain weird, but they are all yours. Cherish them.
Nothing is easy but if you can manage to look past all your fears and everyone else’s expectations, a reward is your life and in my life, I was loved. So Daryn, one more?’ - Isabelle 'Life in a Year'

If you are a big of romance movies then look no further because this movie 'Life in a Year' is a romance that centers on things more than romance, like life and how life itself is very short and how our time in this world is uncertain.

This movie centers on Daryn (Jaden Smith) a high achieving student whose father has meticulously planned everything about Daryn's life and is trapped in that plan, comes from a distinguished home, falls in love with Isabelle (Cara Delevingne) a fierce strong independent girl who has a secret.

Basically the movie talks about loving and eventually losing it and also breaking free from expectations of people around, it goes to show that no matter how we make plans life always has it own path. It also delve into themes like freedom, mortality and true love and from the reviews I had seen, a lot of people complain about it's predictable plot, how the plot is like most romance movies out there, where they ultimately have to say goodbye. But being a hardcore romance lover I overlooked that fact.

I really don't know how Jaden Smith and Cara Delevingne were able to act out their parts so effortlessly, the chemistry between them in the movie was so natural, like they were real couples, they really brought the characters to life. Other actors really did well acting out their parts too, like Daryn's parents, Χανiαr (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and Catherina (Nia Long) and his friends Samme (JT Neal) and Kiran ( Stoney Bylden, who brought comic relief to the movie.

The Director Mitja Okorn give the movie a more cinematic vibe and gave some scenes especially musical or romantic montages a very beautiful shot.

One more thing I'd like to talk about is how the Director incorporated music (rap) into the movie, Daryn (Jaden Smith) is an aspiring musician held down by his father expectations, and the soundtrack also gives the movie an emotional vibe. Jaden even contributed an original music in the movie which gives it a personal touch and connects well to his character.

In all 'Life in a Year' might be a predictable, but it surely reminds us to always live in the moment, break free from expectations and love freely because life can end at any moment and the last thing you want to do is live in regrets.

Disclaimer: If you’re the emotional type, be prepared to shed some tears—just like I did. If you're in the mood to cry and reflect on life, this one’s for you.
