Would you Rather: A Night of Games and Blood
Hi, it's Abeegail, welcome to my blog, I'm back with another psychological thriller movie that would be a good watch for a horror fanatic. "Would You Rather" Is a psychological thriller, released in 2012 and directed by David Guy Levy. The movie spins a classic party game into something sinister.
"Would You Rather" follows iris (played by Brittany Snow), a broke girl, trying to make ends meet while she tries to save her sick brother. She gets invited to a dinner party by an eccentric millionaire, Shepard Lambrick (Jeffrey Combs), who promises to help her and her brother if she participate and win in a game—sound easy right, but it's not because the game is no ordinary game, it's a sadistic, high-stake version of would you rather.

What I absolutely can't get enough of is Jeffrey Combs performance as Shepard Lambrick. He embodies the character of a sadistic, eccentric millionaire, who derives joy in controling others. The character Shepard Lambrick is quite chilling. He has this calmness makes him scarier than a crazed serial killer. He’s the kind of monster that smiles while handing you the weapon. What I also love about this movie was how a simple game was twisted into a blood-chilling horror. It's a strong representation of what desperation can do to ethics and decision.
The movie also touch strong themes and made me see morals in a new light. Your morals are as strong as they are tested. This movie shows what desperation and poverty can chip away at ones morals; how far would you go when all that you need depends on that. It also exposes how wealth and influence are needed to control people. Shepard Lambrick used his money to make the desperate destroy each other for money. It also made me wonder whether we really have freewill or is choice really an illusion.

"Would You Rather" is not for the faint-hearted not because of jump-scares but because it puts you in the shoes of the character, it provokes your thoughts; what would you rather do? Kill someone for family or endure the pain for the rewards. This movie may not have a lot of bloodshed and gore but the real horror is in watching what lines the character are willing to cross. The movie is different because it provokes one's mind and make you think of things you don't want to know answers to. It the kind of movie that leaves you uncomfortable every time it crosses your mind.
Might not be a blockbuster, but it does what it is meant to do as a horror movie: provoke you, disturb you and make you uncomfortable.
Ps: The twist at the end makes the movie worth it and even more heartbreaking.
It's still Abeegail,
Thanks for Reading.
