Seven Sisters, One Identity

This is the third time I’m watching this movie and it always gets me. If you ask me, it’s definitely one of the most not talked about enough movies to ever exist. And I also don’t like the fact that it’s easily forgotten, so let’s talk about it today.

What Happened To Monday is a 2017 action/sci-fi movie about the government of a particular country fighting overpopulation with a one-child policy. And then while implementing the one-child policy, a woman gives birth to septuplets. Yes, you heard me right.

In fact, if not for this movie, I wouldn’t have known septuplets was actually a real thing. So she gives birth to septuplets and then since they all can’t stay hidden for the rest of their lives, they alternate between the days they have to go out. So each person is named after the day she goes out. The one who goes out on Monday has that day’s name and the rest follows.

Since they have the same identity when they leave house, whatever happened to one must happen to all of them. So one person gets a cut and they all must have that cut in order to survive. But then, just as even twins have different personalities, these septuplets also are very different from each other in terms of personalities and that begins to gain attention from certain people. Eventually, Monday goes out on Monday and never returns, forcing the rest of them to go out one by one to look for their sister.

I don’t know how advanced technology was in 2017 for them to have been able to create 6 spitting images of the same person but hats off to them! That alone, to me, is very cool. And the fact that even in their home, there were certain simple technological innovations? Super cool.

For the storyline, I’ll forever be in awe of how somehow could even sit down and think of that. Twins? Fine, triplets? Okay but 1 2 3…7 identical human beings and to fit the days of the week? Come on, nobody can argue that this isn’t creative.

The unexpected turns in this movie, nothing prepared me for them. Have I already said it’s the third time I’m watching this movie? But then I’m still moved by how everything turns around in the middle and in the end. Oh and the main plot of the movie, I mean, when you get to see how the government was actually handling overpopulation, you’d just shake your head or I don’t know, be disappointed. For me, I think this movie was just trying to expose the government of a particular country but I’m not ready to look into it.

Something I realized was that even though these 7 people were from the same womb, grew up and lived all their lives together, one still betrayed them. I don’t think I need to go into the details of the lesson here. It’s very loud and clear enough. If you like action with a little drama and sci-fi, don’t miss this movie. And when you later find out What Happened to Monday, you’ll give it an 8/10.

I want to watch this now! When I saw the title, I thought it would be something like a thriller. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that it’s sci-fi. I’ll definitely set sights on this one. It seems like a ride. Btw, beautiful review as always💗

This movie sounds so creative and full of surprises. The idea of seven identical sisters living under one identity is really unique. I love how the story combines with action, drama, and sci-fi while keeping the suspense. It seems like a film that makes you think about trust, family, and survival. Definitely one I would love to watch.

I watched this movie some years ago. It was very interesting and it kept us all glued to our seats from the beginning to the end. I didn't like that sister that became selfish and tried to be the only one to live. But it was a great story that I'd like to watch again.

I also agree that the storyline is very creative 💯.
