I have finally watched the bombastic fantastic new movie the long-running John Wick saga recently released with many of my friends and my brother.

And what an absolute finale it was.

There's s lot to unpack here so I will break it down in a few sections; the last one is where I would talk with spoilers about how all of this went and ended not just about the movie itself but about how the experience itself of arriving at the movies and leaving was...because that's a bit of a crazy story in itself.

Hay mucho que desempacar aquí así que lo dividiré en algunas secciones; la última es donde hablaría con spoilers sobre cómo todo esto fue y terminó no solo sobre la película en sí sino sobre cómo fue la experiencia en sí de llegar al cine y salir... porque esa es una historia un poco loca en sí misma.

New Faces, Same High-Octane Actiom

Many were sold in the moment that Keanu Reeves would star as John Wick alongside no one other than Donnie Yen, known as a legend in martial arts and movies alike, in a movie that looked to yet again top the insane gunplay and fighting action from its prequels.

It absolutely delivered that and more, joined by many fight scenes packed to the brim with crazy coreography, surprisingly skilled goons (as in, very sparse but specific "generic enemies" that can give a fight for more than 10 seconds) and over-the-top delivery from the other actors involved like Bill Skarsgård (which funnily enough we confused for DiCaprio due to his likeness in the movie with the slicked back hair and smug face) and Shamier Anderson as the bounty hunter "Mr. Nobody" that seemed to have reasons to keep an eye on John Wick but not outright killing him in most moments (...and which we amusingly also confused for a moment for Laurence Fishburne, calling him "Morpheus" until the REAL him appeared in the movie).

From tense fights without music or with the right ambience, to kill montages with varying genres of music but all packed with energy as Wick (or anyone else) is mowing down enemies (in one scene in Paris, a French cover of Paint It Black from The Rolling Stones started blasting and I immediately noticed it due to having heard the original in Twisted Metal Black), and highlights like that one particular scene that we all kept saying that looked like a videogame from how it was framed upside down (and one of us said that must had to be a reference to Hotline Miami)...and actually has been confirmed by the director to be inspired by a videogame! (Not Hotline Miami, but indeed a top-down shooter)

A muchos les convenció el hecho de que Keanu Reeves protagonizaría John Wick junto a Donnie Yen, una leyenda de las artes marciales y del cine, en una película que pretendía superar una vez más la locura de acción y disparos de sus precuelas.

Y cumplió con creces, con muchas escenas de lucha repletas de coreografía alocada, matones sorprendentemente hábiles (es decir, "enemigos genéricos" muy escasos pero específicos que pueden dar guerra durante más de 10 segundos) y la entrega exagerada de los demás actores implicados, como Bill Skarsgård (al que curiosamente confundimos con DiCaprio por su parecido en la película con el pelo peinado hacia atrás y la cara de suficiencia) y Shamier Anderson como el cazarrecompensas "Mr. Nobody" que parecía tener motivos para vigilar a John Wick pero sin matarlo directamente en la mayoría de los momentos (...y al que divertidamente también confundimos por un momento con Laurence Fishburne, llamándole "Morpheus" hasta que el VERDADERO él apareció en la película).

Desde tensas peleas sin música o con la ambientación adecuada, hasta montajes de asesinatos con distintos géneros musicales pero todos repletos de energía mientras Wick (o cualquier otro) va acribillando enemigos (en una escena en París, una versión francesa de Paint It Black de The Rolling Stones empezó a sonar a todo volumen y me di cuenta de inmediato porque había escuchado la original en Twisted Metal Black), y momentos destacados como esa escena en particular que todos decíamos que parecía un videojuego por cómo estaba encuadrada al revés (y uno de nosotros dijo que tenía que ser una referencia a Hotline Miami). ...y de hecho ha sido confirmado por el director que está inspirado en un videojuego! (No Hotline Miami, pero sí un shooter de vista aérea)

The personality packed in many moments

With the variety of places that John Wick goes through in this movie, there's also many characters with a remarked personality being part of the important story or happening to be trailing behind Wick's footsteps to get rid of him. The blind retired hitman Caine being shown to be blunt and even clearly carefree to his surroundings at times (like eating ramen while there's a gunfight where he should be fighting at) but still having a sense of guilt over certain actions he has to undertake while only wishing to be able to stay in peace with his daughter (as well as being sent to kill John Wick, who he was friends with). He also shows quite the tricks with his cane doubling as a hidden sword and being able to use that and his guns to great effect despite being blind, but there being scenes that show ways he works around that, such as using at one point motion trackers to beep and know where to shoot.

On the other hand, the Marquis deGramont is the one that decides to set everything in motion due to his massive ego and knowing that John Wick at the beginning of the movie killed the Elder (who was above all in the High Table) for revenge after what happened at the end of third movie, by blowing up the New York Continental and leaving the manager Winston pretty much without anything (if you have watched this already, you know what I mean with that). He puts a bounty for John Wick that ends up calling the attention of this bounty hunter that calls himself "Mr. Nobody" who has an adorable pet dog...that also doubles as his partner in assasination as it ferociously can attack others at his orders, and has to put up with negotiating the price on John Wick's head with deGramont.

Other characters like Shimazu Koji (another old friend of John Wick managing the Osaka Continental...getting into issues because of that very fact) and Killa Harkan (this HUGE guy that most of us joked that looked like Jack Horner that, for plot reasons, John Wick has to "visit" also stand out with their involvement and how they setup at best some great fight scenes, and at most do have some relevance with later events sooner or later.

If anything, while some could talk about whether the writing on the characters is a bit on the nose or not, I'd say that it is the same as expecting a lot of in-depth story from games like Doom; you are there for the blasting and they absolutely know it, so anything outside the top-notch carnage feels like an extra sweet deal on top of what it tries to resolve for the story of John Wick. There were quite many moments of laughs from snarky remarks and expressions, and overall I'd say that without needing to over-extend this one bit with words further, it was really fun to watch.

But now there's the part of talking about the story...and here's where spoiler territory comes by strong. This is a movie that I can say that is worth watching not only for the insane action and funny moments, but also for what it does as the "endgame" of the John Wick movies and the particular feelings it invokes from that. With that said...

Con la variedad de lugares por los que pasa John Wick en esta película, también hay muchos personajes con una personalidad remarcada que forman parte de la historia importante o que casualmente siguen los pasos de Wick para deshacerse de él. El ciego asesino a sueldo retirado Caine se muestra contundente y hasta bastante relajado a veces (como comer ramen tranquilo mientras que al lado hay una pelea de disparos en la cual debería estar peleando), pero sigue teniendo un sentimiento de culpa por ciertas acciones que tiene que llevar a cabo mientras sólo desea poder estar en paz con su hija (además de ser enviado a matar a John Wick, de quien era amigo). También muestra trucos con su bastón como espada oculta y es capaz de usar eso y sus pistolas con gran efecto a pesar de ser ciego, pero hay escenas que muestran formas en las que trabaja para evitarlo, como el uso en un momento dado de rastreadores de movimiento para pitar y saber dónde disparar.

Por otro lado, el Marqués deGramont es el que decide poner todo en marcha debido a su enorme ego y sabiendo que John Wick al principio de la película mató al Anciano (que estaba sobre todo en la Mesa Alta) por venganza después de lo que pasó al final de la tercera película, volando el Continental de Nueva York y dejando al gerente Winston prácticamente sin nada (si ya has visto esto, sabes a lo que me refiero con eso). Pone una recompensa por John Wick que acaba llamando la atención de este cazarrecompensas que se hace llamar "Mr. Nobody" que tiene un adorable perro mascota...que también hace las veces de su compañero de asesinatos ya que ferozmente puede atacar a otros a sus órdenes, y tiene que aguantar negociando el precio por la cabeza de John Wick con deGramont.

Otros personajes como Shimazu Koji (otro viejo amigo de John Wick dirigiendo el Osaka Continental...metido en problemas por ese mismo hecho) y Killa Harkan (ese tipo ENORME que la mayoría bromeábamos que se parecía a Jack Horner y que, por razones argumentales, John Wick tiene que "visitar" también destacan por su implicación y por cómo montan, en el mejor de los casos, algunas escenas de lucha geniales, y en el mejor de los casos tienen alguna relevancia con los acontecimientos posteriores tarde o temprano.

En todo caso, mientras que algunos podrían hablar de si la escritura de los personajes es un poco en la nariz o no, yo diría que es lo mismo que esperar una gran cantidad de historia en profundidad de juegos como Doom; usted está allí para la voladura y absolutamente lo saben, por lo que cualquier cosa fuera de la carnicería de primera categoría se siente como un dulce extra en la parte superior de lo que trata de resolver para la historia de John Wick. Hubo bastantes momentos de risas con comentarios y expresiones sarcásticas, y en general diría que, sin necesidad de extenderme más con palabras, fue muy divertido de ver.

Pero ahora viene la parte de hablar de la historia... y aquí es donde el territorio spoiler viene fuerte. Esta es una película que puedo decir que vale la pena ver no sólo por la acción loca y momentos divertidos, sino también por lo que hace como el "final" de las películas de John Wick y los sentimientos particulares que invoca de eso. Dicho esto...

A wild story at arrival, watching and leaving

Now it is time to talk about that story of how I even got there in first place. See, I spent yesterday at a friend's house celebrating his birthday and staying at the night there, which resulted in today still being there until...5PM where I got to arrive home. Before arriving, we had planned to watch this movie at 6PM...but the thing is that I was caught with the "call of duty" as soon as I did get back to my home, so between that and taking a shower the time quickly shot up to almost 6PM.

I told my brother while I was on a rush to get myself ready to go that I was going to watch the movie...and he instantly got intrigued.

That's how at 6PM, while some of my friends had already entered the theater but we had one of them buy the tickets in advance and go down to the entrance to hand them to us when we got there (a real hero), we were at first trotting from our house to the street with the buses to the mall/cinema...and at one point we started straight up running to save time and arrive without missing out much of the movie.

Ahora es el momento de hablar de la historia de cómo llegué allí en primer lugar. Veréis, ayer estuve en casa de un amigo celebrando su cumpleaños y me quedé a dormir allí, lo que hizo que hoy siguiera allí hasta...las 5PM que llegué a casa. Antes de llegar, habíamos planeado ver esta película a las 6PM... pero el caso es que me pilló la "llamada del deber" nada más llegar a casa, así que entre eso y darme una ducha la hora se disparó rápidamente hasta casi las 6PM.

Le dije a mi hermano mientras me apresuraba a prepararme que iba a ver la película... y al instante se quedó intrigado.

Así fue como a las 6PM, mientras algunos de mis amigos ya habían entrado al cine pero hicimos que uno de ellos comprara los boletos con anticipación y bajara a la entrada a entregárnoslos cuando llegáramos (todo un héroe), nosotros al principio íbamos trotando de nuestra casa a la calle con los autobuses al centro comercial/cine...y en un momento empezamos directamente a correr para ganar tiempo y llegar sin perdernos mucho de la película.

We managed to arrive in the moment that John Wick had finished the first travel in the desert to face the Elder due to the betrayal he got in the third movie (being shot and left for dead), so while we probably missed any gunfights and chases in that desert before that, we got to see the aftermath (take a guess what Wick did with that guy)...and then the debut of deGramont destroying the New York Continental while he talks down to Winston and his concierge Charon with a threatening pressure.

Only that he actually shoots Charon instead of Winston, who passes away on the spot while Winston is left in lament after having just talked about him of how he was a good man and shouldn't be there in the first place, while the concierge bids his farewell and considering it an honor to have been with him all the ride.

From there it goes to John Wick talking with his old friend Koji about what happened, while Koji's daughter, Akira, was clearly concerned about his presence there while deGramont's assasins happened to arrive at where they were to take care of Wick and anyone else that was with him. A lot of gunfights, swordfights and nunchakus later, John Wick fights Caine in a very close fight that he almost didn't survive until the mysterious bounty hunter intervened to have him escape (while talking to him that, at the moment, "his bounty wasn't that high yet"), but Caine eventually ends up facing Koji instead and hestitatingly kills him as he refused to give away John Wick's next location.

After that, John Wick meets with Winston in front of the tombstone of his concierge and gives him the idea of asking for a duel with deGramont for his freedom (which he clearly wanted him to do not just for freedom but also for revenge...and self-benefit, as you'll see soon)...but according to the rules he needed to become part of his old "family" again, and when he tries to do that, he's met with a shotgun to his kevlar-covered suit while awakening on a noose, trying to convince his old adoptive sister to do him the favor.

Conseguimos llegar en el momento en que John Wick había terminado el primer viaje en el desierto para enfrentarse al Anciano debido a la traición que recibió en la tercera película (ser disparado y dado por muerto), así que aunque probablemente nos perdimos cualquier tiroteo y persecución en ese desierto antes de eso, conseguimos ver las secuelas (adivina lo que hizo Wick con ese tipo)... y luego el debut de deGramont destruyendo el Continental de Nueva York mientras habla por lo bajo a Winston y a su conserje Charon con una presión amenazadora.

Sólo que en realidad dispara a Charon en lugar de a Winston, que fallece en el acto mientras Winston se queda lamentándose después de haber hablado de él de cómo era un buen hombre y no debería estar allí en primer lugar, mientras el conserje se despide de él considerándolo un honor haber estado con él todo el viaje.

De ahí se pasa a John Wick hablando con su viejo amigo Koji sobre lo sucedido, mientras la hija de Koji, Akira, estaba claramente preocupada por su presencia allí mientras los asesinos de deGramont llegaban por casualidad a donde estaban para encargarse de Wick y de cualquiera que estuviera con él. Un montón de tiroteos, peleas de espadas y nunchakus después, John Wick lucha contra Caine en una pelea muy reñida a la que casi no sobrevivió hasta que el misterioso cazarrecompensas intervino para que escapara (mientras le decía que, por el momento, "su recompensa aún no era tan alta"), pero Caine acaba enfrentándose a Koji en su lugar y éste lo mata vacilante al negarse a revelar la próxima ubicación de John Wick.

Después de eso, John Wick se reúne con Winston frente a la lápida de su conserje y le da la idea de pedirle un duelo con deGramont por su libertad (lo que claramente quería que hiciera no sólo por la libertad sino también por venganza...y beneficio propio, como verás pronto). ...pero según las reglas necesitaba volver a formar parte de su antigua "familia", y cuando intenta hacerlo, se encuentra con un escopetazo en su traje cubierto de kevlar mientras despierta en un lazo, intentando convencer a su antigua hermana adoptiva de que le haga el favor.

And that's how he ends up trying to kill the Killa Harkan guy, who had killed their "uncle" Pyotr and asked for his death to do the deal. In this place, Caine and "Mr. Nobody" arrive as well with the intent of killing Wick, but Harkan offers a game of Poker and the winner deciding who lives and who doesn't...only that it turned out that it was totally rigged (Harkan pulled out five equal). The three do what they do best and kill their way out until Wick gets into a struggle of a fight against Harkan, eventually getting rid of him and recovering his "family" status for the duel request.

This duel request, which Winston presents to deGramont, would give Wick his freedom and Winston his position plus reconstruction of the New York Continental back (I told you he had some self-benefit planned), but despite deGramont's hestitation over having no reason to even accept, he fell in the trap due to his ego as Winston essentially talked to him like if he would become a legend and rise in the hierarchy if he was known as the one that killed John Wick (which to be fair, is a fair thing to assume knowing Wick's track record).

Y así es como acaba intentando matar al tal Killa Harkan, que había matado a su "tío" Pyotr y pidió su muerte para hacer el trato. En este lugar, Caine y "Mr. Nobody" llegan también con la intención de matar a Wick, pero Harkan ofrece una partida de Poker y que el ganador decida quién vive y quién no... sólo que resulta que estaba totalmente amañado (Harkan sacó cinco iguales). Los tres hacen lo que mejor saben hacer y se van matando hasta que Wick se lía a mamporros contra Harkan, acabando por deshacerse de él y recuperando su condición de "familia" para la petición de duelo.

Esta petición de duelo, que Winston presenta a deGramont, le daría a Wick su libertad y a Winston su posición más la reconstrucción del Continental de Nueva York de vuelta (te dije que tenía planeado algún auto-beneficio), pero a pesar de la vacilación de deGramont por no tener ninguna razón para siquiera aceptar, cayó en la trampa debido a su ego ya que Winston esencialmente le habló como si se fuera a convertir en una leyenda y ascender en la jerarquía si era conocido como el que mató a John Wick (que para ser justos, es algo justo de suponer conociendo el historial de Wick).

This is how Caine, who was forced to act as the fighter in deGramont's place due to his daughter being in surveillance by his men, talks to Wick in a church as they basically lament their position caused by their hitmen past following them at all times and bidding goodbye knowingly they would try to kill each other, and leads to the big long montage of the movie.

You see, deGramont eventually realized (likely from everybody else telling him) that trying to bet his life on a fight against John Wick was too absurd to stick to fearlessly, so he set a huge bounty on his head so that he can't arrive before the duel at the sunset and loses his chance by the rules.

That's how we soon get to the entrance into an abandoned house where the "videogame-style" top down carnage scene comes by, and the bounty hunter finally tries to take Wick for good after his price goes to 40 million dollars. He tries to fight his best but Wick does get him at gunpoint...until he decided to instead shoot a very, VERY, VERY persistent thug (as in, we see him first all the way in Osaka) that was going to shoot at the hunter's dog, leaving the guy with a stoked reaction over what had happened.

You know, either having death in the face at shotgun range, his dog almost being shot, or the fact that the guy he was trying to kill decided to rescue the dog and spare his own life as well.

In any case, John Wick goes through the streets of Paris and the car chases where he managed to get to an absurdly long staircase leading to the duel location. He shoots down many hunters on the way...only for that aforementioned thug somehow returning from being shot with a shotgun (kevlar, I guess) and falling off from a 2nd floor and kicking John Wick down the stairs.

The "absurdly long staircase" part is very important, because we saw him roll...and roll...and almost everybody in the cinema was laughing or gasping in disbelief at him literally rolling down all the way to the beginning, when time was the last time he had to spare. But Caine decided to lend him a hand (I guessed that it was because he was also arriving late, but also because he wanted to settle the score the right way) and fight back to the top. John Wick eventaully ends up at the mercy of THAT thug again, until in a scene where the bounty hunter is looked at by his dog (which was both funny and adorable because it was basically "bro please save him, he saved me") and decided to instead shoot at the other guy to save him, followed by him commanding the dog to bite his balls and then shoot him in the face.

Así es como Caine, que se vio obligado a actuar como luchador en lugar de deGramont debido a que su hija estaba siendo vigilada por sus hombres, habla con Wick en una iglesia mientras básicamente se lamentan de su posición causada por su pasado de sicarios siguiéndoles en todo momento y despidiéndose a sabiendas de que intentarían matarse el uno al otro, y conduce al gran y largo montaje de la película.

Verás, deGramont acabó dándose cuenta (probablemente por lo que le decían los demás) de que intentar apostar su vida en una pelea contra John Wick era demasiado absurdo como para atenerse a ello sin miedo, así que puso una enorme recompensa por su cabeza para que no pudiera llegar antes del duelo al atardecer y perdiera su oportunidad por las reglas.

Así es como pronto llegamos a la entrada en una casa abandonada donde se produce la escena de la carnicería "estilo videojuego" de arriba abajo, y el cazarrecompensas finalmente intenta llevarse a Wick para siempre después de que su precio ascienda a 40 millones de dólares. Intenta luchar lo mejor que puede, pero Wick lo atrapa a punta de pistola... hasta que decide en su lugar disparar a un matón muy, MUY, VERY persistente (como en, lo vemos primero todo el camino en Osaka) que iba a disparar al perro del cazador, dejando al tipo con una reacción exaltada por lo sucedido.

Ya sabes, o tener la muerte en la cara a tiro de escopeta, o que su perro casi recibiera un disparo, o el hecho de que el tipo al que intentaba matar decidiera rescatar al perro y perdonarse también la vida.

En cualquier caso, John Wick recorre las calles de París y las persecuciones en coche en las que consigue llegar a una escalera absurdamente larga que conduce al lugar del duelo. Derriba a tiros a muchos cazadores por el camino... sólo para que el matón antes mencionado vuelva de algún modo de recibir un disparo de escopeta (kevlar, supongo) y se caiga desde un 2º piso y patee a John Wick escaleras abajo.

La parte de "escalera absurdamente larga" es muy importante, porque le vimos rodar... y rodar... y casi todo el mundo en el cine se reía o jadeaba incrédulo al verle literalmente rodar hacia abajo hasta el principio, cuando el tiempo era el último que le sobraba. Pero Caine decidió echarle una mano (supongo que porque también llegaba tarde, pero también porque quería ajustar cuentas como es debido) y volver a luchar hasta la cima. John Wick evententaully termina a merced de ESE matón de nuevo, hasta que en una escena en la que el cazarrecompensas es mirado por su perro (que era a la vez gracioso y adorable porque era básicamente "hermano por favor sálvalo, él me salvó") y decidió en su lugar disparar al otro tipo para salvarlo, seguido de él ordenando al perro que le mordiera las pelotas y luego le disparara en la cara.

Because you should know absolutely well that the last thing you should ever, EVER, EVER do is to shoot a dog. Ever. Let alone in a John Wick movie; remember that it all begun because some douchebag decide to kill his dog in the first movie and started his killing spree from there.

So both John Wick and Caine arrive at the duel with old pistols, quick-draw style, where their second had to bring them the bullet (lending us the great moment that was deGramont telling Caine to do it for his daughter, only to be replied to with "screw off" and everybody here laughing at that) and fire at the signal.

Both shots didn't kill, so they have to get closer, another round goes off and they still don't get hit in vital parts, so they get closer one last time, where this time it looked like it was going to be the last one.

...

Caine shoots Wick, as he stumbles to the floor in pain with his stomach wound, and while Caine asks for his own freedom and his daughter's, deGramont grants that to him while he decides to ask for his "coup de grace" shot as the winner...

...Only for Winston to point out that he, without any shadow of a doubt, was an idiot.

John Wick hasn't shot his bullet yet, and it was time to show him some consequences.

Everybody watching literally started clapping when he got shot in the head.

And that's how it ended, with the man regulating the process granting both Caine and Wick his freedom as it was said (Wick killed deGramont so he won the duel, while Caine was given his freedom from his word), but while Wick asks Winston to take him home, he slowly walks down the stairs where he was until he reminsces of the happy moments he has with his (long-deceased wife) until he collapses.

John Wick is dead. And both Winston and the Bowery King were at his tombstone bidding their farewell to him, tying a previous moment that seemed a bit like a joke as a heartfelt send-off to his saga: After having said what he wanted on his tombstone (which seemed a bit ridiculous to them in that moment), he eventually got it there.

"John Wick: Loving Spouse".

Porque deberías saber perfectamente que lo último que deberías hacer nunca, JAMÁS, JAMÁS es disparar a un perro. Nunca. Y mucho menos en una película de John Wick; recuerda que todo empezó porque un gilipollas decidió matar a su perro en la primera película y empezó su matanza a partir de ahí.

Así que tanto John Wick como Caine llegan al duelo con pistolas antiguas, al estilo de las de desenfunde rápido, donde su segundo tenía que traerles la bala (prestándonos el gran momento que fue deGramont diciéndole a Caine que lo hiciera por su hija, sólo para ser contestado con un "vete a la mierda" y todo el mundo aquí riéndose de eso) y disparar a la señal.

Los dos disparos no matan, así que tienen que acercarse más, sale otra ráfaga y siguen sin recibir impactos en partes vitales, así que se acercan una última vez, en la que esta vez parecía que iba a ser la última.

...

Caine dispara a Wick, mientras éste tropieza en el suelo dolorido por la herida en el estómago, y mientras Caine pide su libertad y la de su hija, deGramont se la concede mientras decide pedir su "tiro de gracia" como vencedor...

...Sólo para que Winston señale que él, sin ninguna sombra de duda, era un completo idiota.

John Wick no ha disparado su bala todavía, y era hora de mostrarle algunas consecuencias.*

Todo el mundo empezó a aplaudir cuando le dispararon en la cabeza.

Y así es como terminó, con el hombre que regula el proceso concediendo tanto a Caine como a Wick su libertad como se dijo (Wick mató a deGramont por lo que ganó el duelo, mientras que a Caine se le concedió su libertad por su palabra), pero mientras Wick le pide a Winston que le lleve a casa, baja lentamente las escaleras donde estaba hasta que recuerda los momentos felices que pasa con su (ya fallecida esposa) hasta que se desploma.

John Wick ha muerto. And now the John Wick saga was finally over, being freed of his relentless pain of living alone without his loved one while being constantly chased by the entire world and having nothing more but killing. The first credits rolled while most waited to see the aftermath...and it went straight to the second, "full" credits that take forever. Almost everybody left while my brother and me were still somehow pondering on whether there could be a post-credits or not...until I noticed the credits freezing and skipping to the last logos (Dolby, Quebec and such). In that moment I knew that something had to be up because it wouldn't make sense to do that if there wasn't anything.

There was.

And both me and my brother screamed for a bit to get my friends back in the theater room as it started (one of them noticed I was still inside and called the rest, while another one freaked out with the fact that there was a post-credits they were missing out on). It showed Caine finally walking to his daughter after being never allowed to be close to her with the risks he posed through his connection to the High Table...but Koji's daughter, who had previously sworn revenge for his father and told Wick that she would go kill Caine if he didn't do it, shows up near to him, pulling out a switchblade.

And then the movie ends.

I was bursting in laughter with how they were outside while that happened (one of my friends actually didn't even notice and stayed outside the whole scene) while my brother was bragging at how we did guess there had to be something else at the end; the fact that the people at the theater did skip at the end though was not just a stroke of luck to notice, but also quite the detail from them considering how long those second credits can be...and pretty funny to think that they waited a few minutes just to do that while many had already left expecting no post credits.

Y tanto yo como mi hermano gritamos un rato para que mis amigos volvieran a la sala de cine mientras empezaba (uno de ellos se dio cuenta de que yo seguía dentro y llamó al resto, mientras otro flipaba con el hecho de que había un post-créditos que se estaban perdiendo). Mostraba a Caine caminando por fin hacia su hija después de que nunca se le permitiera estar cerca de ella con los riesgos que suponía su conexión con la Mesa Alta... pero la hija de Koji, que antes había jurado vengarse de su padre y le había dicho a Wick que iría a matar a Caine si no lo hacía, aparece cerca de él, sacando una navaja.

Y entonces termina la película.

Yo me reía a carcajadas de cómo estaban fuera mientras eso ocurría (uno de mis amigos ni siquiera se dio cuenta y se quedó fuera toda la escena) mientras mi hermano se jactaba de cómo habíamos adivinado que tenía que haber algo más al final; el hecho de que la gente del cine saltara al final no fue sólo un golpe de suerte, sino también todo un detalle por su parte teniendo en cuenta lo largos que pueden ser esos segundos créditos... y bastante gracioso pensar que esperaron unos minutos sólo para hacer eso mientras muchos ya se habían ido esperando que no hubiera post-créditos.

Veredict?

Wild movie, worth watching it with my friends, worth watching it with my brother, heck, with how nice the audience was this time around despite being quite packed, it would still have been worth watching alone from the reactions and the quality of the movie. This made the perfect surprise movie night after a long but enjoyable stay at this birthday, and was quite refreshing to see a movie actually getting me to jump in pumped up adrenaline and react in audible ways.

The finisher against deGramont being received with inmediate claps is probably one of the best things I've ever seen while watching movies, because if that doesn't speak about how everybody resonated with joy at THAT guy getting his just desserts, I don't know what would. And experiences like that are what can make watching a movie in the gigantic projector with the big audio equipment even more unique than at home.

A truly wicked movie to send off good old John Wick, as well as the dear Lance Reddick who did his part as the charismatic concierge in the previous movies as well as here as his last role in film as an actor before unfortunately passing away in this March.

Even though the main saga is done, what could be followed up with other characters is up in the air (like the post-credits if that could be used for movie material), as there's already a spin-off in production intended to cover the space between the third and fourth movie. But with all of that said, to have a finale like this is quite the gift from everybody involved, and for anyone that arrived from wanting to watch the first three movies, this fits like a ring for a quadrilogy of movies as a chronicle of the present troubles of a man tormented by his perilous and then briefly peaceful past, bringing death to almost anybody if not everybody on his way...until his finally regained freedom and peace in his death in this finale.

Película salvaje, vale la pena verla con mis amigos, vale la pena verla con mi hermano, diablos, con lo agradable que era el público esta vez a pesar de estar bastante lleno, todavía habría valido la pena verla solo por las reacciones y la calidad de la película. Esta fue la perfecta noche de cine sorpresa después de una larga pero agradable estancia en este cumpleaños, y fue bastante refrescante ver una película que realmente me hace saltar de adrenalina y reaccionar de manera audible.

El finisher contra deGramont siendo recibido con aplausos inmediatos es probablemente una de las mejores cosas que he visto viendo películas, porque si eso no habla de cómo todo el mundo resonaba de alegría al ver a ESE tipo recibiendo su merecido, no sé qué lo haría. Y experiencias como esa son las que pueden hacer que ver una película en el gigantesco proyector con el gran equipo de audio sea aún más único que en casa.

Una película realmente perversa para despedir al bueno de John Wick, así como al querido Lance Reddick que hizo su papel de carismático conserje tanto en las anteriores películas como aquí como su último papel en el cine como actor antes de fallecer desgraciadamente en este mes de marzo.

A pesar de que la saga principal está hecha, lo que podría seguir con otros personajes está en el aire (como los post-créditos si eso podría ser utilizado para material cinematográfico), ya que ya hay un spin-off en producción destinado a cubrir el espacio entre la tercera y cuarta película. Pero dicho todo esto, tener un final como este es todo un regalo por parte de todos los implicados, y para cualquiera que llegara de querer ver las tres primeras películas, esto encaja como anillo al dedo para una cuatrilogía de películas como crónica de los problemas actuales de un hombre atormentado por su peligroso y luego brevemente pacífico pasado, llevando a la muerte a casi todo el mundo, sino a todos, en su camino... hasta que finalmente recupera la libertad y la paz en su muerte en este final.
