The Brotherhood of War /Review [ENG-SPA]
Watching movies based on historical moments, even if they are not based on real life events, allows us to imagine a little of the experiences lived by their protagonists.
The movie I want to share today, is based on the events that occurred during the war between North and South Korea and one of the many families that were affected by this conflict, I do not know if it was based on real life events, but still has very touching scenes, as well as raw.
The Brotherhood of War
The beginning of the film is set in 2001 Korea, we can see a group of South Korean scientists and military conducting excavations in the place where a battle was fought, the goal is to find remains of military personnel killed during the war, among the remains they find a feather near one of the bodies and which is engraved with the name of Lee Jin-Seok, They presume that it is Lee Jin-Seok, but when they consult the archives, they discover that he is still alive. In order to clarify their doubts, they make a call and Jin-Seok mentions that it could be his brother Lee Jin-Tae, who disappeared when they were fighting in that place.
From there, the film takes us to the year 1950 and we can see a family made up of a pair of brothers, the elder Jin-Tae, who was a shoeshine boy, and Jin-Seok, the younger, who was studying and had heart problems, their mother who had lost her speech and with them lived Jin-Tae's fiancée, together with his younger brothers.
When the war broke out, the family tried to leave Seoul, but at the train station, both brothers were recruited, and Jin-Tae's struggle began, trying to exclude his brother from certain missions to save his life and return home, exposing his own life to prevent his younger brother from dying, either in combat or because of his heart problem.
Now, everything that Jin-Tae did as an older brother, he never mentioned it to Jin-Seok, which caused him to doubt his true intentions and the motivation behind them, in addition to his brother came to show behaviors that were unknown to this younger brother and did not please him.
This film gives us a close-up look at what desperation can be like for soldiers when their supply lines and medicines have been cut off and what hunger, desperation and fear itself can lead them to do.
Likewise, we can see how the brothers come into conflict, for example, when they run into one of their friends who had been forced to fight with the communist army or when Jin-Tae doubts the integrity of his fiancée, who had attended communist meetings in exchange for food and was therefore accused of treason and of sleeping with communist officers.
On the other hand, a series of events that we could call unfortunate, lead Jin-Tae to believe that his brother is dead and he joins the communists which leads to both brothers fighting on opposite sides, during a battle that was fought precisely in the place where Jin-Tea's remains were laid to rest, We can see touching scenes of the meeting of the brothers and how Jin-Tea always had the purpose of saving his brother and how Jin-Seok, even being an old man, kept a gift that his brother gave him and that he was still waiting for him.
Finally, I hope you will excuse the spoiler, but even sharing part of the plot, this is one of the few movies that I have seen several times, because of the message of love between brothers, as well as the importance of communicating and the horrors of war.
Ver películas basadas en momentos históricos, aunque no estén basadas en hechos de la vida real, nos permite imaginar un poco las experiencias vividas por sus protagonistas.
La película que deseo compartir hoy, está basada en los hechos que ocurrieron durante la guerra entre corea del norte y corea del sur y una de las tantas familias que se vio afectada por este conflicto, desconozco si fue basada en hechos de la vida real, pero de igual manera tiene escenas muy conmovedoras, así como crudas.
La Hermandad de la Guerra
El comienzo de la película se ubica en la Corea de 2001, podemos ver un grupo de científicos y militares surcoreanos realizando excavaciones en el lugar donde se libró una batalla, el objetivo es buscar restos de militares fallecidos durante la guerra, entre los restos encuentran una pluma cerca de uno de los cuerpos y la cual tiene grabada el nombre de Lee Jin-Seok, por ello presumen que se trata de este, pero al consultar los archivos, se descubre que aún sigue vivo, con el propósito de salir de dudas realizan una llamada y Jin-Seok les hace mención de que podría tratarse de su hermano Lee Jin-Tae, quien desapareció cuando combatían en ese lugar.
De allí, la película nos traslada al año 1950 y podemos ver una familia conformada por un par de hermanos, el mayor Jin-Tae, quien era un limpiabotas, y Jin-Seok, el menor, quien estudiaba y tenía problemas cardiacos, la madre de estos que había perdido el habla y con ellos vivían la prometida de Jin-Tae, junto a sus hermanos menores.
Al estallar el conflicto de la guerra, la familia intenta salir de Seúl, pero en la estación del tren, ambos hermanos son reclutados, allí comienza la lucha de Jin-Tae, para procurar que su hermano quede excluido de ciertas misiones para salvar su vida y que vuelva a casa, exponiendo él la suya para evitar que su hermano menor pudiera morir, ya fuera en combate o por su problema cardiaco.
Ahora bien, todo lo que hizo Jin-Tae como hermano mayor, jamás se lo menciono a Jin-Seok, lo que originó que este dudara de sus verdaderas intenciones y la motivación detrás de estas, además de que su hermano llego a mostrar conductas que para este hermano menor eran desconocidas y no le agradaban.
Esta película nos hace ver de cerca lo que puede ser la desesperación de los soldados, cuando su línea de suministros y medicinas han sido cortados y lo que el hambre, la desesperación y el mismo miedo puedo llevarlos a realizar.
Igualmente, podemos ver como entraron en conflicto los hermanos, por ejemplo, al toparse con uno de sus amigos que había sido obligado a pelear con ejército comunista o cuando Jin-Tae duda de la integridad de su prometida, la cual había asistido a reuniones comunistas a cambio de comida y por ello le acusaban de traición y de acostarse con oficiales comunistas.
Por otro lado, una serie de eventos que podríamos llamar desafortunados, llevan a Jin-Tae a creer que su hermano ha muerto y se une a los comunistas lo que lleva a que ambos hermanos combatan en lados opuestos, durante una batalla que se libró justamente en el lugar donde reposaban los restos de Jin-Tea, podemos ver escenas conmovedoras del encuentro de los hermanos de como siempre, aunque por momentos perdió el norte, Jin-Tea tenía el propósito de salvar a su hermano y como Jin-Seok aun siendo un anciano guardo un regalo que le hizo su hermano y de que aún le esperaba.
Finalmente, espero me disculpan el espóiler, pero aun compartiendo parte de la trama, esta es una de las pocas películas que he visto varias veces, por el mensaje tanto del amor entre hermanos, así como lo importante de comunicarse y los horrores de la guerra.

Your review is very engaging despite the spoiler. I was glued to the very end and felt the pains as if I was watching it. Historical war movies; be it fictive or factual, pierces my heart. The fight for survival is not easy amongst the soldiers especially when they're trying to save a loved one like the big brother in this one did. This was lovely to read. Have a good one.✨

As I pointed out, I don't know if it's based on real life events, but what it says is very likely what the vast majority of older siblings would have done and I recommend it to you, it's excellent.
Vi esta película hace años por recomendación de un amigo (es su película favorita) y me gustó mucho. Entiendo por qué la has visto varias veces. A lo largo del film saben jugar con los niveles emocionales, sentimientos crudos, tristes, frustrantes, de risas, esperanza, redención y obviamente hay elementos dramáticos, giros en la trama y escenas bélicas muy buenas. No he visto muchas películas de guerra hechas en Asia, pero esta es muy buena. Saludos y gracias por traer la recomendación.
Tiene buen gusto tu amigo y tú en este solo párrafo has descrito y enumerado a la perfección todo lo que la compone y la hace una buena opción para ver, en mi caso mi película favorita es Amistad, la cual fue dirigida por Steven Spielberg
