Greetings!

The "Air Jordan 1" is arguably the most famous shoe ever. It was created by Peter Moore in 1984 in an attempt to lure Michael Jordan into signing for Nike. Nike at the time was only third in basketball sneaker market share behind Converse which own 54%, followed by Adidas with 29%, and Nike owns 17% market share.

Can you imagine, that Nike's basketball sneaker market share in 1984 was only. Today, Nike is the most recognizable sports apparel company is way ahead of the competition, and is virtually untouchable. Nike's success is widely credited to those who ran the company at the time and to Michael Jordan and his eventual "Air Jordan" line of shoes.

The movie "Air" tells the story of how the famous "Air Jordan 1" came to be. "Air" portrays that basketball sneaker market competition at the time was very fierce much like today. The movie centers around Sonny Vaccaro (Matt Damon), the man who fiercely recruited Michael Jordan to sign for Nike. And shows some of the ins and outs of Nike which was also known as "Blue Ribbon Sports" at the time.

The movie shows a very hopeless position for Nike to sign Michael and eventually end up signing him up and the rest is history.

I love how the movie started by showing the basketball sneaker market share in 1984 which actually surprises me to know that Nike at the time only controlled 17% of the market. Also, I was surprised that for Nike at the time, signing Michael Jordan was impossible and Sonny Vaccaro knew it but it was the time that giving was not an option.

As I understand it, Sonny Vaccaro's first choice is signing Michael Jordan for Nike. The problem is how he is going to do it since money is not on his side add up the fact that David Falk (Michael Jordan's agent) explicitly said that Michael did not even want to schedule a meeting for Nike.

I like how the movie portrayed Sonny Vaccaro as being relentless in doing his job. Another thing that I really want in this movie is the use of popular music at the time. I was very nostalgic when some of the music that I am familiar with was played during the span of the movie. Without the popular music of that decade, the movie would have been less interesting. But the thought of knowing the history of "Air Jordan 1" is still enough for me to watch the movie.

I also like that the movie discussed that not all U.S. citizens at the time believed that Michael Jordan would become the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time). The movie even said that Michael Jordan is a little bit short for the NBA. John Stockton was also mentioned in the movie as being too short. But we all know how the career of John Stockton ended as one of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players.

Speaking of the soundtrack, "Time After Time" by Inoj was perfectly used in the movie.

I also like how the movie dug deeper into the jump shot that gave Dean Smith and North Carolina their NCAA championship at the time. Sonny Vaccaro said that Michael Jordan is very relaxed and just waiting for the ball to be passed with and then we knew what happens next.

I absolutely how James Jordan was portrayed in this movie, the actor is perfect in playing as Michael Jordan's father, just look at this smile (screenshot below).

I can't say any negative thoughts on the portrayal of Michael Jordan's mother. Deloris in the movie seems to be very cautious and very strict, but very intelligent and a great woman. But we cannot blame if the script wants to portray a mother who only wants the best for her son.

The movie seems to have an endless array of things that I like, another one is the render of the "Air Jordan 1" in the office of Peter Moore (check the screenshot below).

Did I just say endless? Another one is the first prototype of the shoe being revealed by Sonny Vaccaro in front of the Jordans (see screenshots below).

Here's the scene when Michael Jordan was holding the first prototype of "Air Jordan 1" (see screenshot below).

Also, the movie did not fail to include how the "Air Jordan" name came to be. The moment when Peter Moore said that the shoes would be named Air Jordan was epic (see screenshot below). But Sonny Vaccaro said that David Falk also said the name "Air Jordan".

Another one that stands out to me in the movie is the portrayal of Nike when it comes to conducting talks or business talks between colleagues in a casual and loose setting which is very enlightening and not very stressful which differentiates Nike from Converse and Adidas.

All in all the movie has done a good job in telling the story of "Air Jordan 1". It is a very light movie (not very stressful) but at the same time is very successful in showing audiences the effort of everyone involved in doing a shoe business.

By the way, I also like how the movie portrayed the 1980s with all the computers with DOS screens the comfort room is definitely 80s too!

It is a job well done for Ben Affleck in directing the movie

It's a great corporate biopic, specially if you are into sneaker culture and his history. I loved it.
