Greetings!

Dragon Ball has come a long way since it was introduced as a Manga in 1984 in Japan. As for me, I was one of the lucky ones to watch the first-ever Dragon Ball TV series that began to be shown here in our country in the 1980s. Watching the series back then is a treat because it has lots of child humor, especially because it was ahead of its time in that decade. Fast forward to today, numerous movies have been released, and the latest is "Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero".

"Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero" is the 21st animated movie for the franchise spanning less than four decades.

"Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero" is all about a humorous, action-packed, and surprising story of Gohan, Piccolo, Pan, and some of the gangs.

Evolution of animation

I liked it when I first saw that the style of animation of "Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero" is a lot better than the previous one which is Dragon Ball Super: Broly. The details of improvement in the animation of "Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero" are very dramatic and can be easily seen from the very beginning of the film. It is indeed by far the best when it comes to improving the animation of Dragon Ball.

I missed Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, and Chiaotzu

What I don't like in this film is that Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, and Chiaotzu are missing. If Krillin can have his moment why do Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, and Chiaotzu can't? It would be an emotional one if they included them for sure. I have a high hope that they will appear in the upcoming series Dragon Ball: Daima.

Flashbacks

The "Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero" opening scene immediately shows the pasts of Goku and the Red Ribbon Army therefore setting up the plot that this film is about the resurgence of the Red Ribbon Army with its new Androids, Gamma No.1 and Gamma No.2.

Gamma No.1 and Gamma No.2 the new Androids or Red Ribbon Army

I like it when the film shows Pan while training with Picollo. Pan is such an adorable kid. I also like it very much when Picollo is shown as being part of the family of Goku, it is such satisfying to see him so close to the family, especially with the children. I also like it when the film shows how Trunks and Goten have gotten bigger (but I do like them much younger because they are so cute). Seeing them a little bit grown up loses their cuteness. I also like when Picollo is always shown as a serious teacher when it comes to training just like what he has shown time and time again to Gohan and in this movie too! I also like it when this movie finally gives Picollo his long overdue upgrade, it is such a joy to see Picollo have his upgrade.

Broly, Beerus does have a type

Since this movie is part of the continuity, I am also glad to see Broly training with Whis. This whole thing of Vegeta, Goku, and Broly training together makes me think that there will be a time that a threat will become and it will be so powerful that it will need Goku, Vegeta, and Broly to defend. What I never saw coming in this film is when Beerus said that he likes Cheelai. It caught me off-guard when he said it. I thought he was going to say that Cheelai should be sent away because she didn't belong on his planet but it wasn't. It made me smile when he said, "I like this one".

The moment that caught me off-guard. Beerus said that he likes Cheelai

Plot holes?

I was going to say it didn't make sense when Picollo asked for an upgrade from Shenron because in my mind they could wish to bring Goku and Vegeta back to it, but they did (Bulma wished for some beauty enhancements). But then Bulma suddenly realized that they should have wished Shenron to bring Goku and Vegeta back to Earth. As for Picollo, he admits that he forgot about it.

A beast awakened

I watched this film with the expectation that I was going to see something new to Dragon Ball and I was not disappointed when Gohan transformed into his newest transformation, Beast Gohan. This transformation does have silver hair with red eyes. This transformation of Gohan has some similarities with the Ultra Instinct of Goku. Although we haven't been treated to prolonged battle scenes for the form it is suggested that this new form of Gohan is stronger than Goku's Ultra Instinct.

Conclusion

All in all this film did not disappoint as it has all the elements of a typical Dragon Ball animation like humor, surprise, comedy, plot, and battle scenes. This film is a great addition to the increasing list of Dragon Ball movies.

If you are a fan of Dragon Ball this film is a must-watch since it has lots of hints that the events in this film will be carried on to the next movie or series unless Akira Toriyama decides to do another "Daima".

This film has a lot to offer when it comes to the continuity of the franchise. For sure the new transformation of Gohan will be carried on to the movie series.

The animation style of this film is superb. It is by far unique from all of the previous films when it comes to animation style and screenplay. The plot is great and the humor still hits the spot (typical for a Dragon Ball series or film).
