Arabs aren't depicted very well in western media. One of the best videos I found on the topic is from "Filmmer" who debunks some of the #arabian stereotypes in #movies:

Seems to be missing the point.
Stereotypes are generalizations.
People think in terms of categories and in groups and out groups. In order to make these generalizations they focus on the differences. This creates a sort of caricature.
All groupings of humans do this to all other groupings of humans.
We can't argue against it by saying naXalt.
When we say that naXalt(not all X,Arabs in this case, are like that) we are commiting a logical fallacy by using the specific to argue against the general.
Stereotypes can be true or false at the specific level. We have to learn to reason to determine which is the case in any given context.
In a modern context stereotypes may seem like sloppy thinking but it's actually just an expression of a human survival mechanism.
Is it good or bad?
Depends on how close you are to a state of nature.
I hate that some people may feel marginalized by this but I think the solution is to focus on what we can control (go through the power process (obtain goals through our own mind, will, and strength)) and not our feels.
Hopefully my reply makes sense and is helpful.

Stereotypes are part of life, but the issue here seems to be how are stereotypes used to further a propaganda goal.

  • Arabs were depicted normally (more or less) until the energy crisis of the 1970s and the rash of airline hijackings of the 1970s and 1980s. Since then, they've been depicted as caricatures; propaganda was part of that.
  • These days, it's "the Russians" who get the same treatment. For a few years in the 1990s they were treated normally, but sine at least 2003 they've been getting the same treatment as their predecessors, "The Soviets";
  • Domestically, "right-wingers" get the same treatment as "Arabs" and "The Russians" by those who control corporate news media, corporate social media, corporate entertainment, and the academic institutions.

If we personally know any of these people, we know the reality of what kind of people they really are. So it goes back to the propaganda goals of those pushing the stereotypes we keep seeing in the media we consume. What we had taken for granted even 5 years ago is now suspect and questionable; perhaps it was always suspect and questionable, only we've come to realize it now.

Yeah I can agree with that.

This thing is basicly like professional wrestling.
You have the pretty boy, which is "the international community"(code for the anglo-american empire) vs. the the heel (pick your cartoonish moustache twirling villain).

All kayfabe.

All media is used to further the drama and stear audience.

That's what we've been dealing with since at least 2015 if not earlier: kayfabe; it just became more obvious since 2015, as if they don't even bother hiding it anymore.

To make it worse, sources we found to be trustworthy on one theme are all kayfabe on a different theme. Add to that the fact that even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

The best we can do is compare corporate news with news we get from our trusted sources and then see how quickly the kayfabe disappears to be proven true or false.

I'm just trying to avoid getting casted as a minor villain until I can buy a little freedom.

In recent years I've embraced being more of a heel. I'm still cautious and discreet by nature, but not like before.

Well my opinions might put me in that category, but yeah, always under the radar.

As @magnacarta.buzz said, my issue isn't with the stereotypes themselves, and they're kind of exist, but the lack of anything other than these stereotypes.

Even that is okay, as you said, we all categorize people. It just makes actual Arabs less likely to enjoy Hollywood films.

I've completely unplugged from Hollyweird cuz I want no part of their various agendas.

What we need is to decentralize the system we know as "Hollywood." Even if a few such systems like it exist elsewhere, it doesn't help us if they are like Hollywood in every other way. Genuine alternatives need to come into existence in order to cater to different audiences.

avatar

Yeah, if everyone spreads their propaganda, at least make it that so everyone can choose which propaganda to consume~

If Russians depiction is as far from reality as Arabs depiction, I kinda feel bad for them now.

Thanks for this comment.

depict them as rich people with fancy cars who travel the world

That's not an accurate representation for most of us. I'm not rich, I don't even have a Car, (and my brother's Car isn't fancy,) and I don't travel the world.

Well, there are some Arabs who fit these three criteria:

A well done video. It's funny, raises awareness and is not overly preaching the subject matter.
