Love and Loyalty// A journey into a Powerful Family

Hi guys, I hope we are doing well. It's really been a while I saw a movie on romance. I personally stopped seeing romantic movies because they are always too emotional. The last one I saw was in year 2012. While watching the movie, I got so emotional too that I wet my pillow with tears. People at home would hear the way I was crying and sniffing my nose. Once anyone heard and came to check up on me, especially at night, they ended disappointed that it was only movie that was made me cry that much. So, at that time, I decided to abandon such movie. If you have been following my reviews overtime, you would see they are action movies lately.

So, yesterday, after a long time, I decided to give it a try again. Thus, I decided to see a Philippine movie titled "Love and Loyalty".

Plot
It was a beautiful story of two lover birds in medical school, Arena and Pavo. The guy was from a very affluent family in the society. Though his father was late, his mother was still alive and really wanted her son to marry the daughter of their oldest housemaid, so that they would remained in the house, be at her service and worship her forever.

Nature took its course, and the son fell in love with another person, the most brilliant medical student in their school. Her name is Arena and she's from an average family. Her father was also late but her mother remarried and they are living a quiet life in a small town. After some time, the son proposed to his girlfriend without the knowledge of his mother, because he knew her mother would oppose the move. The lady, Arena accepted the proposal and Pavo wanted their wedding not long after. He later informed her mother when he realized his fiancee was pregnant, but the mother stood against it and insisted he must marry their old maid's daughter.

After much persuasion, to accept the girl. They fixed date to introduce the lady to her but the day was another nightmare. The mother-in-law insisted that the soon to be couple must not reside outside but live with her. The girlfriend was terrified, she would soon become a surgeon in few months and also a mother. A lot would be expected of her as a surgeon. She would really need to focus, but her mother-in-law even planned to sack the new housemaid they had. So that, she would be the one to cook, wash dishes and clothes and do all other house chores. It was really a hard one. They got married and few weeks after, the trouble began. The mother-in-law never loved her.

To worsen the situation, her husband started cheating at work and even at home with the old maid's daughter that he once rejected. Arena however saw it, and having had enough from both mother and son. She resigned as a surgeon since she could not focus again, packed her things and ran to her mother in their small town.

Back in their hometown, it was not easy for her family. Her stepfather had an acute ulcer, and living was also difficult for lack of money. She tried to secure a job but there was no vacancy for a surgeon in the small hospital in the town. She decided to hide her identity as a surgeon and go for a less position, operational nurse available in the hospital. Things however fell apart for her the day her stepfather was rushed to hospital and there was no surgeon on seat to operate him. In a bit to save his life, she wheeled him to the theatre without permission from the hospital, but with the help of a colleague, Alex that loved her so much at the hospital. Though the surgery was successful, the situation became chaotic, she revealed she was a surgeon but she was eventually fired.

Things took another turn as life became harder for her. She took up a cleaning job, just to put food on her table. While going through this hard time, her husband was busy womanizing in the city. His mother advised the maid's daughter to seduce him the more and marry him. He also convinced her son to marry Olga. Things worked out as planned for them. Olga was pregnant, they went straight to court for their civic wedding. Shortly after then, Olga, the maid's daughter started showing her real colour. She wouldn't even do anything in the house. She started frustrating the mother-in-law and made life unbearable for her. After a while, the mother-in-law had a stroke and Olga filed for divorce and properties. Her lawyer did a thorough job, and he won, rendering the mother and son homeless.
The son became sad and worried, he traced his former wife, Arena to her hometown to apologize and he found her where she was cleaning in the hospital. He asked that his ex wife forgive him and take him back and left.

Olga, in order to celebrate her win, she took her lawyer into the house to have fun with him in celebration of their win. Her now ex-husband, Pavo coincidentally entered the house and found them in the most improper way. Olga told him to go out since the house was now her own. He became furious and beat her to death, the lawyer took his camera and captured. That was how Pavo was sentenced to jail. The real ex- wife, Arena in her kind heart decided to check up on her mother-in-law that was in the hospital. The woman was in awe to see her, she pleaded for forgiveness, and died shortly after in the hospital. Terrified, she left the hospital to tell her ex-husband that his mother had died. On getting home, she was told that Olga was killed by her husband and he had been imprisoned. She then made arrangements for the burial and went back to her family in her hometown, where she started a new life by dating her colleague, Alex.

Review
At the end all that I said about romantic movies have not changed.. The movie 'Love and Loyalty ' is an emotional one. It centres around love, betrayal, rejection, conflict between the rich and poor, separation and nemesis. I believe love is a universal thing. In fact the love shared by these two was unquenchable. What amazes me is how such love turns sour through constant cheating. This is a reflection of what happens in our society, once cheating comes in marriage, the walls of love have broken. Then, I ask myself, can't men especially, do without cheating? A larger percent of men cheat. While women can also be found wanting in this case, it is more peculiar to men. Nothing feel more painful than being betrayed by someone you love and sacrificed a lot for.

Also, it is pertinent to note that marriage is beyond love. There are lots of other factors to consider after love, Many still make that mistakes in our society today. They believe once you and the person involved love each other. It's enough. They never considered the demeanor of the family. Family members stance also have impact on marriages.The gap between the rich and the poor is always there and remains kept apart by families. As the mother-in-law showed the wife no iota of love, upon everything she did. She still made her feel unworthy of her son, despite the fact that the daughter-in-law was also an educated person, a surgeon for that matter. She would have escaped that 5years of torment, had she looked beyond love and mind the family's body language from the beginning.

However, true love can conquers if the two people involved are faithful but it was not like that for Pavo. His family was not only the problem in that marriage. He was a chronic cheater, himself. It's so disheartening for the wife that she had to resign as a surgeon when she could not concentrate anymore and ran to her mother in the small town.

This is the reason every parent should train their children to be strong in the face of challenges and practice self-love. Many women have lost themselves in marriage, as a result of ill treatment from their spouses. Imagine resigning as a surgeon because of marriage and leaving the parents that trained you in school to suffer. Self-love is really important, nothing should make you, as a spouse to lose yourself in marriage. We are to love our spouses and of course, love ourselves as well.

Another critical part of the movie is nemesis. I so much love that part. This is a key element that reminds people to sow what they will like to reap. The movie balanced the guy and his mother's actions with consequences. The chronic cheater husband later met his match, the housemaid's daughter that also cheated on him and collected his properties after divorce. The mother-in-law also caught a stroke that humbled her and made her realize that life is a turntable.

All actors and actresses in the movie delivered their roles excellently, and the wife's final decision to move on and give love a chance again with her new colleague, Alex gladdened my heart and showed her experience has finally thought her to be strong and priotise her happiness. The movie teaches us to always hope for the best, but sometimes expect the worst, and be strong when the worst happens.

Rating

In fact, I rate the movie 9/10. It makes a great use of suspense. I actually thought Arena would go back to Pavo after she visited his mother at the hospital and waited for him till he's out of prison, but the sweet lady had learnt. She wouldn't take responsibility for another person's action. She moved on to date a more handsome man. It's an interesting movie and I recommend it to you all. You will love it.
