Psychotherapy||The serial killer
Happy Sunday guys, hope we are enjoying our day . It is going to be a good week in Jesus name. April is going gradually and I know as movie lovers, we must have seen several movies this month . However, I've come to share with you, one of the movies I saw last weekend.
About the Movie
It is psychotherapy! What a title! "Psychotherapy: The shallow Tale of a writer who decided to write about a serial killer". It was a 2024 movie produced by Sinan Eczacıbasl et al. The story centered around Keane, a story writer with several books to his name but who got stuck on a particular one for almost four years. Keane was not only stuck but also frustrated and helpless because of the lack of audience for the story.
Over time, he became so annoying even at home as he consciously and unconsciously made reference to the story and talked about the yet published book at any chance. It all became tiring and his wife, Suzie couldn't find his attitude funny any more. She started getting pissed at him and wanted a divorce because he always took his writing over their marriage She complained that Keane made no contribution at home. He remains so complacent and leaves every decision in their marriage to her , while he goes around making a fool of himself about his stories.
While Keane was at his lowest because he couldn't get his story published, Kollmick, a total stranger, approached him to write about a serial killer. Kean was confused about its possibility, he couldn't see himself flow in writing such a story, when he has never killed anyone before. Kollmick offered to help him navigate through the story writing because he is a retired serial killer, who has killed many people in the past.
Despite his earlier reservation about the subject matter, he agreed. Having had a lot of liquor that night, he led the serial killer into his house to tutor him without informing his wife. Suzie woke up to a stranger in their home in the midnight, terrified, Kean wanted to explain to her that he was a counselor (for his writing). Ironically, Suzie mistook the man for a marriage counselor and got so impressed that her husband at least took a step towards ensuring their marriage works.
Kollmick, the serial killer found the whole thing strange because he thought it would be difficult to pretend as a marriage counselor when he's not. Kean convinced him to save his marriage and they had about 3 therapy sessions, but Kollmick couldn't help mentioning death as a killer that he was. While Suzie got a little bit worried , her husband tried to convince her and she agreed that it was because their marriage was literally dead.
Back to story writing, Kollmick offered to teach Kean the process involved in killing which include: targeting and kidnapping the victims. However, the attempt to go more practical in the teaching landed them in more trouble.
While I actually thought this was the weirdest movie I have ever seen, it wasn't what I thought it was. The movie was deeper and more relatable than I thought. I actually thought it was weird because I don't know that sane man that would take a stranger and a serial killer for that matter into his home in the middle of the night, all in the name of writing. While there is no justification for such action, I later saw the angle at which the decision was made, at my second watch. It appeared Kean made that decision out of frustration that no one liked the current story he was writing. His publishing agency asked him to get a more engaging story which made him desperate and consider the offer, an opportunity.
My Review
The movie explores the world of creativity, with various subject matter such as : love, marriage profession, rejection, desperation, marriage, complacency, and death. This is highly relatable because it portrays what happens in many homes.
Many marriages are dead while the spouses involved are unaware. The inability to separate work from marriage is a big problem. The heat from our work shouldn't consume our marriage. Work needs attention , so also marriage. Spouses are to pay attention to their actions and check if it's not jeopardizing their homes. Suzzie was feeling lonely and frustrated in that marriage but her husband, Kean never knew.
Also, as humans, irrespective of our profession, we should know how to handle rejection. Every profession has its own down sides. Kean couldn't handle the rejection by his publishing agency when they told him to get something more engaging. He resulted in taking alcohol and making unwise decisions. Also, the theme of love explored in the movie is great. Love is a beautiful thing, you know, but variety is the spice of life.
The fact that our spouse loves us doesn't mean we should be dogmatic and complacent with things. It was obvious that Suzzie loves Kean and didn't really want that divorce, but she was not just cool with the dogmatic behaviour of her husband. Even if one is a reserved person, it is expected that we do more for our marriage to be lively. Kean lacks all these, he was only engrossed in his work and desperate to publish a book.
Oh, Make-believe! The movie is a clear picture into the world of make-believe. It has to do with creativity, imagination and pretence. A good writer can make use of all these to become the character in mind, if it was a story of another person. However, Kean was not wise enough to engage all these elements, until he was tricked into doing the activities involved in the subject of his story, "serial killing" which include: targeting and kidnapping his publishing agent and others, which however landed them in more trouble.
This movie teaches us that creativity is not a crime and crime is not creativity. Any action that endangers other people's lives is not creativity, neither is it smartness. Above all, we are to flee all the appearances of evil. Kean shouldn't have had anything to do with the serial killer, not even for story writing but he was so desperate to get a more engaging story.
Suzzie shouldn't have also continued tracing her husband and Kollmick, having seen they are kidnapping people, but she proceeded until she got to the scene of the crime, and couldn't control herself and ended up being the perpetrator of the killing.
It's a great movie after all and I appreciate the fact that I didn't give up on my first time watching. I pressed on the second time to get the deeper meaning and it's worth it at the end and I rate it 8/10. It is full of great lessons and I recommend you watch it at your leisure.
Thanks for reading.

Lol a typical example of people would do anything for a story. I hope he learnt his lessons if he ever got out of the trouble alive lol
Yesooo! Desperation is indeed a bad thing
