Annie (2014) // MOVIE REVIEW
I've actually watched the movie Annie couple of years back and recently I just felt like rewatching the film which is something I rarely do but I saw myself doing this with regard to this movie. Annie is actually a movie originally produced in the year 1982. The recent one released in 2014 was more of a remake of the movie. Annie is a foster kid who lives along with other girls as well all hoping to be adopted some day.
Annie's case is a bit different cause she still has a bit of hope to be reunited with her biological parents some day because of the note they left with her and the half piece of locket they left with her before she got picked up and was sent to a foster care where grew and lived her mean guardian coupled with other little girls. On the other end is Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) who is a business man that produces mobile phones. He wishes to take his business to the next level and decides to run for mayor.
Somewhere along the line Will and Annie cross paths which later on leads to Annie living with Will for the meantime. The initial purpose of this arrangement was for political gain but as time went by the closeness between Will and Annie grows strong which dies down Will's desire for his political aspiration and decides to take Annie in as his daughter.
Somewhere along the line Will runs into Annie and he saves her from a movie vehicle from running over her. Some gets a clip of this incident and posts it online which goes viral and this increases his points of potentially winning the election.
Watching the movie the second time was almost the same experience as watching it for the first time. Maybe it's because it's been long ago I watched it, I don't really know, but it's quite a great movie. One thing I admired about the character Annie was her optimism. She had such a good a cheerful spirit. She kept up with the hope of finally meeting her parents, even though it didn't later end up that way. Her good spirit was contagious that everyone she came across with was affected by it in their lives. I'm sure it had the same effect even on the viewers as well because it did on me.
But one thing that I didn't really dig into the film was the too much singing. It felt like I was watching a Disney movie. It's not just Annie though, it's the same with other musicals. I just don't know what's with me and musicals though, lol. It's not like a completely hate it, but I just feel it unnecessarily eats into the movie and then we are not really left with much. A few scenes of the singing did interest me though, like when Annie performed the song "Opportunity" on stage during on of Will's campaigns. It felt really magical.
The movie did teach of learning to always realize what's in front of you. Most times a lot of us look too far to find what we seek when it is standing right in front of us. Like I said earlier Annie didn't end up with her Daddy and Mommy, but she got a Father and a Mother at the end. She didn't need to have a biological connection with two people before she could have parents. As a matter of that it takes more than genes to be a father or a mother to a child. Just like a Disney fairytale, she later ended up happy ever after with people who cared about her and were willing to take full responsibility over her which really gladdened my heart.
I give Annie a rating of 7.5/10. It was worth both the times I watched it. Let the draw the curtains here. Thanks for your time.
