A poem inspired by Delirium from the Netflix series (and book) called Sandman.

I saw the sky in pieces sharp and torn
It tasted like sugar, but it stung like scorn
The ground was laughing it swallowed my shoes
The flowers whispered secrets I didn’t choose

Dreams of broken colors spinning in my head
A carousel of chaos painting me red
I chase the rain but it runs like a liar
Dreams of broken colors burning like fire

I met a clock that ticked in reverse
Its hands were bleeding time like a curse
A mirror cracked and swallowed my face
Left me dancing in an endless spacee

Do you feel it breaking
The weight of all this waking

Dreams of broken colors spinning in my head
A carousel of chaos painting me red
I chase the rain, but it runs like a liar
Dreams of broken colors burning like fire

I’m the echo of a scream that never ends
The shadow of a world that bends and bends
Catch me in the static catch me in the haze
I’m a storm you’ll never trace

A poem... That's a song! Love it! I was so disappointed to hear they'd cancelled Sandman so I'm a bit reluctant to start... But you've clearly been moved by it! I'm intrigued....

It was going to be a song, but I changed course. Poems, songs... blurred lines.

One edit, you missed an i on "like fire" in the second last stanza, unless I'm realllly dumb and am missing some literary intent here.

I liked the verse about the clockling ticking in reverse. I liked it a lot. Temporality is something I think a lot about in my work.

Very evocative, and full of powerful imagery. Flows well too.

Thank you.

I once intentionally wrote "mispelt" in a poem. You never know when an error is intentional.

My error "clockling" in my above comment was not intentional, but I shall let it endure on. A little, cute clock!

Edit, in fact, it wasn't "clockling" it was just clocking.

Time does in fact, clobber us, so I guess it makes sense. :D I changed it to clockling regardless.

Being very familiar with Dream's sister, I see this and you.

Thank you. I've become rather infatuated with her. I read that Delirium is Neil Gaiman's favourite as well. It took me a while to understand her place, and that "delirium" isn't mere inanity.
