Sean Penn playing Jimmy Markum, a man with a shady past and haunted by the tragedy of his daughter's death. Penn received much praise for his performance, even winning an Academy Award.

Then we have Tim Robbins in the role of Dave Boyle, a childhood friend of Jimmy's and someone who has suffered deep trauma. Robbins also received recognition for his performance....

Finally, there is Kevin Bacon as Sean Devine, a detective investigating the murder case.

The film grossed around $156 million and was nominated for several major awards, including six Academy Award nominations. Sean Penn took home the award for Best Actor, while Tim Robbins won Best Supporting Actor.
