It is said that Steven Spielberg was its original director but he gave that right to Clint Eastwood who was also the main protagonist accompanied by the award-winning Meryl Streep who already had two Oscars to her credit, the first as Best Supporting Actress for the film Kramer Vs Kramer in 1980 and the second as Best Actress for her starring role in "Sophie's Choice" in 1983.

The plot of the film revolves around the clandestine romance between Francesca, a housewife of Italian nationality who is married to an American soldier who participated in his country in World War II and Robert Kincaid a photographer who arrives in Madison County to take some pictures of the covered bridges in the area for National Geografic.

The attraction between the two characters is instantaneous and they live four days of unbridled passion, taking advantage of the fact that her husband and her children are out of town, enjoying the state fair.

In the end the story must make decisions that become crossroads, which end up marking the future of both.

The production cost only 22 million dollars to make and grossed over 180 million, becoming a cult film over time.

It was an unusual participation of Eastwood in a romantic film, since in his entire career he had participated in westerns and action films.

Meryl Streep was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for her participation in this film, as well as for the Golden Globes and SAG Awards and the film was nominated for the Golden Globes, but was not selected as a winner.

As a curious fact it should be noted that the small town where the film was developed, after its success, became one of the most visited tourist destinations in the United States.

A film that is undoubtedly a must-see and that resists repeated viewings without losing its charm.
