This film is a legal drama directed and written by Karen Moncrieff and released in 2013.

In it, the talented actress Kate Beckinsale plays the lead role of Cate McCall.

The plot follows Cate McCall, a lawyer who used to be a successful public defender, but is going through a difficult time in her career and personal life after separating from her husband and losing custody of her daughter, which has plunged her into alcoholism.

To regain her reputation and her life, she decides to take on a seemingly impossible case: she accepts the pro bono appeal of a woman, Lacey, sentenced to life in prison for the murder of her husband.

She is aided in this task by her assistant Bridges, played by veteran Nick Nolte, who helps her legally and psychologically to get the job done.

As Cate becomes more immersed in the case, she faces her own demons, battling her addictions and trying to redeem herself both professionally and personally.

The plot takes several unexpected turns as it unfolds and what appears to be is not, equally the application of the law becomes confusing and the ending is unexpected.

The film features a talented cast that includes, in addition to Beckinsale and Nolte, James Cromwell and Anna Anissimova, who bring depth and emotion to the story.
