[Movie] Soul (2020)Review with spoilers
It all begins with Joe Gardner, a high school music teacher in New York City. Although he teaches, he's not particularly passionate about it because his true dream is to become a professional jazz musician. Suddenly, he's presented with the opportunity of a lifetime: to play at a prestigious jazz club with a renowned artist. On that very day, incredibly excited about having achieved his goal, he gets distracted, falls down a manhole, and slips into a deep coma.
At that moment, his soul separates from his body and begins its journey to the "Afterlife." Realizing that his life is about to end at its peak, Joe resists dying and, in his attempt to escape, accidentally ends up in the "Backworld": the place where new souls receive their tastes, interests, and personality before they are born.
To find a way back to his world, Joe poses as the mentor of "22," a rebellious soul who has been trapped there for centuries because she is unable to obtain her "spark," the essential requirement for passage to Earth. They strike a deal: Joe will help her find her spark, and in return, she will give him her pass so he can return to his body.
However, the plans go awry. While attempting to return to Earth, an accident occurs, and the roles are reversed: 22's soul ends up trapped in Joe's body, while Joe himself becomes trapped inside a therapy cat. From there, we see a beautiful contrast. Since it's 22's first time in the physical world, he begins to enjoy the simplest things, like eating pizza or watching a leaf fall from a tree, while Joe is desperate and frustrated about getting his life back.
Eventually, they are both discovered and returned to the "Far Out." After a series of conflicts, Joe manages to keep the pass and returns to Earth. He finally manages to play at the jazz bar, and his performance is excellent. But after the concert, the film's true psychological twist occurs: Joe realizes he feels exactly the same as before.
This situation leaves us with one of the most beautiful reflections I've seen through the fable of the fish: we often spend our entire lives desperately searching for the ocean, without realizing that we are already swimming in it. The film teaches us that the "spark" isn't an obsessive goal or professional success, but simply the fact of being alive and knowing how to appreciate each day with balance and dignity.
I loved the movie and the message it conveys, which is why I give it my highest rating. It's fantastic, and you have to see it if you love motivational stories.

Eventualmente, ambos son descubiertos y devueltos al "Más Atrás". Tras una serie de conflictos, Joe logra quedarse con el pase y regresa a la Tierra. Finalmente logra tocar en el bar de jazz y su presentación sale excelente. Pero al terminar el concierto, ocurre el verdadero giro psicológico de la película: Joe se da cuenta de que se siente exactamente igual que antes.
Esta situación nos deja una de las reflexiones más hermosas que he visto a través de la fábula del pez: muchas veces pasamos la vida entera buscando desesperadamente el océano, sin darnos cuenta de que ya nos encontramos nadando en él. La película nos enseña que la "chispa" no es un propósito obsesivo ni el éxito profesional, sino el simple hecho de estar vivos y saber apreciar el día a día con equilibrio y dignidad.
Me encantó la película y ese mensaje que nos deja, por eso le doy mi valor más alto. Es fantástica y tienes que verla si te encantan las historias motivadoras.
