The Old Guard Film Review - Immortal Special Forces

As we all know, age has a limit and we will all die. If we hear about immortality, maybe it is something that is very impossible, because everything in this world has a time limit.

However, today I watched an exciting action film that tells the story of immortal humans, more specifically special military troops who have immortal genetics in their bodies that make them unable to die.

This great film is entitled The Old Guard, this film was released in 2020 and received a score of 6.6 out of ten points according to the IMDB site, this film, directed by Gina Prince, stars Charlize Theron as Andy, Kiki Layne as Nile , Luka Marinelli as Nicky and Marwan Kenzari as Joe, they are the main actors in this great film.

The synopsis of this film tells the story of four secret mercenaries who have immortal genetics named Andy, Nicky, Joe and Booker, the four of them were trapped by their own superiors at the request of a Pharmaceutical Scientist so they could be captured to be used as research rabbits.

At the beginning of the film, it is shown that this team of immortal soldiers is again given a humanitarian mission by a former CIA member named James Copley, the mission is that they have to go to Sudan to save children who are being held hostage.

Initially Andi had refused this mission because he was afraid that their secret identities would be very easy for the enemy to find out if they continued working for the same person. However, his three other colleagues, namely Joe, Nicky and Booker, asked him to accept this mission because it involved a humanitarian mission.

A little information, these four immortal mercenaries have been alive for hundreds of years and they have always taken part in humanitarian missions in various parts of the world, they are good people who have eternal strength.

When they arrived in Sudan, to be precise, where the children were being held hostage, they did not find a single child in the room, suddenly several other soldiers came and immediately shot at the four of them until they all lay on the floor because they were hit by bullets.

This is where the immortal strength of these four mercenaries was first shown, the wounds they received from being shot by bullets immediately recovered quickly until they healed as before as if nothing had happened like Deadpool.

This is the coolest scene in the entire film, then they immediately respond to the attacks of the soldiers who attacked them using very elite special forces style martial arts.

It turns out that what Andy was afraid of at the start of the mission was true, they were trapped by Copley, when they were in action just now with the power of regeneration from extraordinary wounds, it turned out that Coley had installed a hidden camera in the room to show it to Steven Merrick, the Pharmaceutical Scientist who very evil.

On their way home from Sudan, when the four immortal troops rested in a train carriage, the four of them dreamed about a United States soldier who was serving in Afghanistan.

Her name was Nile, she was a female soldier who was on duty in Afghanistan and had a mission to catch a criminal. Nile was stabbed in the neck by the criminal using a knife which knocked her unconscious.

When he arrived at the treatment camp, Nile's wounds suddenly healed very quickly. This miracle was also seen by Nile's fellow soldiers, which made them not believe in the miracle they were seeing.

Nile was also surprised by the miracle that happened to him. In Andy, Joe, Nicky and Booker's dreams they could clearly see Nile's face and what happened to Nile. It turned out that it was a dream that gave a signal that there was one more person in this world who had extraordinary powers like them.

After Andy succeeded in picking up Nile, the five of them finally gathered in a house in France, where Andy told Nile about their experiences when they took part in helping humanitarian missions around the world.

While sleeping, the five of them strangely dreamed again about a woman named Quynh who was the first person Andy found with immortal powers.

Quynh was captured by a group of priests and thrown into the sea because they considered Quynh's presence a threat. Andy always tried to find Quynh who sank with his coffin to the bottom of the sea. After hundreds of years of searching, until now Andy has not been able to find Quynh.

When Andy and Nile were in the backyard of the house, Merrick's mercenaries suddenly arrived there to attack the five of them. As soon as Andy and Nile entered the house after successfully fighting the soldiers they found Booker who had been badly shot and lying on a chair, while Joe and Nicky was captured by the mercenaries.

Now Andy, Booker and Nile are planning to save Joe and Nicky who have been taken to Merrick's laboratory. Nile thought about not saving Nicky and Joe and preferring to go home to his parents.

Arriving at the station, when he was about to go home, Nile saw that the gun Andy had given him was not loaded with a single bullet, it was the gun that Booker had given Andy. That's when Nile realized that Booker had betrayed them.

Sure enough, when Booker and Andy arrived at the Copley house, Booker immediately shot Andy in the back and immediately tied Andy's hands so that Andy couldn't move. Booker chose to be researched because he thought the research was for the good of humanity, because when they first met with Merrick the reason for conducting research on the bodies of these 4 immortal people was to find a cure for cancer.

Now Andy, Nicky, Joe and Booker are in the Merrick Laboratory with their bodies tied up in a laboratory room. The team from the Merrick Laboratory has started taking DNA samples from these four mercenaries.

Andy, who had not been caught, began to take the initiative to save his friends. Andy was not alone, he acted with Copley. It turned out that after his confession, Copley was also framed by Merrick to arrest the four immortal mercenaries.

Upon arrival at the Laboratory, Nile chose to act alone against all the mercenaries there because Copley was not immortal. After successfully freeing his four friends, they finally fought together in the Laboratory to fight all of Merrick's mercenaries.

When he wanted to be freed, Booker asked not to be released and remained there because he felt guilty for betraying his friends, but Andy and the others released Booker with the kindness of their hearts.

In the end, Merrick was also killed by Nile after being pushed from a very high floor in the building. After that, the five of them immediately left the building before the police arrived.

At the end of the film, it is shown that Andy, Nicky, Booker, Joe and Nile choose to hide and live quietly, they will only act if there is a humanitarian mission, they meet Copley at his house, it turns out that all this time Copley has always monitored their performance while they were carrying out their activities. mission of goodness for humanity in various parts of the world.

And Copley promised to find better jobs for the immortal troops in the future so they can continue to do good for humanity.

To keep themselves safe Andy, Nicky, Joe, and Nile also punished Booker who had betrayed them by isolating him for 100 years so he couldn't meet them.

6 months later, in Paris, Booker, who was drunk, returned to his apartment. When he arrived there, he was surprised by the arrival of a mysterious woman. When he was about to shoot the woman, he realized that the woman was Quynh, and the film ended.

It seems that this exciting 120 minute film will have a second series after I saw that the story was cut at the end of the film, according to wild information I found, the second film from The Old Guard will be released in 2023, hopefully I can watch it again.

This film is very exciting if you watch it with your family because the story is very exciting and full of goodness. Anyone who watches this film will definitely really like the storyline because this film was made to show the humanitarian actions of the immortal army.

Never trust anyone, be careful in making friends, because traitors are always everywhere, even though Booker finally apologized for his mistake, the blood of traitors will always be there.
