Ah my dears, last night I finished watching Disenchanted. It's the sequel to the Disney film Enchanted. When you see it you can definitely enjoy a different side of the magical world of Andalasia and the reel/real world.

What am I saying you might ask? Well if you haven't seen the film I'm talking about then I suggest you also watch it. After all I think it can qualify as a Christmas movie for all the magic it has.

Would you like to know more about this? Well then proceed below. 😀

The lawyer husband of Giselle.

This woman is the supposed community leader of Monroeville.

The Trailer / Synopsis

Here you go, watch this trailer.

Now that I've seen the movie, I can say this is a concise visual summary.

@artgirl's Review of Disenchanted

We've all been there, the state of being disenchanted with life. As bitter adults we always bewail how life can be cruel and heart-crushing. Then again life is what we make it, is it not? 😉

◙ Characters & Story

In this movie, we see what can happen when we bring an entire magical world into our reality. It's a reminder of that old cliché: Be careful what you wish for.

The film starts off as one of those fairytales, cute and with animated animals. And then we find out there is something more after Giselle's "happily ever after" at the end of Enchanted. (You can read my review of that movie HERE.)

Well it was good to know she's still the same lovable and always positive character despite living in New York for a decade. It's very hard to be such a person in this world, especially when almost everyone around you is so focused on the negative. People can easily bring you down from feeling ecstatic to be alive.

Yes, it is no wonder she found it hard to live outside of Andalasia despite her best efforts. Constantly being denied, abused and/or beaten down can crush someone's weak spirit. Surprisingly she is strong enough to withstand the real world.

Heh, there aren't enough happy/positive people like her anymore. Like minded individuals will definitely feel the same way she does especially when thrown in a city like New York. It's what drove their family to eventually move out. (Good move I say. People can lead more happier/relaxed lives whenever we are surrounded by many plants. Don't believe me? Notice how people in suburbs or rural areas are usually much nicer than city folks.)

The story is not that bad at all. All I can say is people who have not experienced wanting to find and actually bring about more goodness in this world might not appreciate Disenchanted.

Hey it's always the case. Being shown the truth makes us hate the messenger. (This is why most people settle with candy coated lies/fake news rather than facing and accepting the painful truth/facts.)

As a lover of fantasy and sci-fi stories I think this film is perfect for jaded people who want to believe there's more to being human. There is hope out there, we just have to collectively act and make it real. It's not easy but it can be done if we choose to.

While I watched the film, some scenes made me cry and other ones made me fascinated. I dunno about you but the story makes me think there's no hardships in their fantasy land. 😂 Like, everything seems to always end in happiness everyday at Andalasia. Come on, that's such a paradise if it's real eh? (But hey we can make it a reality if we're all happy and loving/caring towards each other.)

Probably it's the reason why there are people saying it's not as good as Enchanted. We all know real life is hard and people can be cruel. Most adults (or city folks?) have become disillusioned and hardened by unpleasant experiences . This is why many of us are constantly trying to escape and wish to be "somewhere else", just like Giselle.

Watching this and seeing what happens to someone in real life dealing with magical consequences can leave a bad taste in our mouths. It makes fairytales somewhat disgusting yet fascinating.

Yes Giselle eventually became an evil stepmother. What do you expect when you meddle with life using magic? 😂 The rest of the characters became quite a caricature of their real selves though. Oh but don't fret, again love is the answer. ♥️

Yes, I too would have rolled my eyes at this cliché. That's when I didn't understand it. (No it's not true love's kiss this time but the universal kind. 😆) Hardships and enough life experience is one way of clearly seeing this truth. This month I finally really know why most stories in the world say the same thing. 😉

Disenchanted has it's own charm so I'd say it's not that bad at all. The secret is out, ladies and gentlemen. Basically how to get back to love and become better humans is what this movie is all about. (Maybe a sort of "return to innocence" or idealistic point of view. 🤷)

◙ Acting, Singing and Dancing

Well I like how Giselle transitions from good to bad. Haha. Always fun to see such in movies. Amy Adams did it really well.

Am not much of a fan of the song and dance routines in this one but it's still entertaining enough to watch.

◙ Cinematography, Production Design, CGI & Music

2022 has not been as easy as I thought it would be, thus it taught me a very important lesson. Love is what makes life worth living. Another cliché you might say but there is indeed a truth in it.

Our life on Earth is all about spiritual development or enlightenment, so they say. Returning to love and relearning how to become full of it is our goal. Thus one of the music in this movie is the answer to the question I have been thinking about for quite a while now.

Say hello to Love Power!

Yeah I know people can scoff at this but it's one way of being more loving indeed. Love (or compassion) and the lack of it is usually what causes the pain and problems in our lives. Think about it and tell me if it's true for you too.

Look back and remember, when we were younger, we were always happier as a child right? Why do you think so? I believe it's because most of us were loved, cherished and taken cared of. And then we grow up and whoa! What happened to us? 💔

In terms of the movie, look what happened to Giselle. This is why the music in this film is apt and fun to listen to as well! For example, the song "Badder" is really entertaining! Very Disney. 😁

Compared to Enchanted, I can say production design is top notch as usual. The costumes and set design are great! The magical Monroeville gives off a vibe of living in the 18th century.

CGI is so much better too! It has definitely improved, finally. One scene even reminded me of Harry Potter. 😆

In terms of cinematography I think the first movie surpasses this one. Although I like how it has a more natural vibe because it's suburban. Trees and living near nature will always beat life in a concrete jungle.

◙ Rating

So, let me now give you my movie rating.

  • Characters & Story: 8
  • Acting, Singing & Dancing: 7
  • Cinematography, Production Design & Music: 9

Final Rating: 8

Well, that's a point lower than it's predecessor but that's how it is. 😉

How about you, have you seen Disenchanted? Which part do you like best? 😁 Anyway, Merry Christmas!
