Iblis Dalam Kandungan
Movie Review

Recently, the Indonesian cinemas has been flooded with many horror films, one of which is the one I just watched. This film is one of the films that has been produced in 2019. It has been almost 2 years that it has not been shown in theaters and finally after the loosening of regulations in the pandemic, cinemas are finally reopening and showing in cinemas in March 2022.

This film is played by Nafa Urbach, an Indonesian actress who recently came back after being absent from the film industry for years. Then played by Ali Syakieb and many more.

Synopsis

This film is just like any other horror film that tells the story of a family who moves from the city to the countryside with cliché reasons, Ferdi (played by Ali Syakieb) to protect his wife who has just become pregnant after 15 years of marriage plans to move to a faraway village, from the hustle and bustle of noise because his pregnant wife has hypertension so he wants to take good care of his wife. But who would have thought that the house they lived in was a haunted house full of mystery in the village.

In the past, long before they lived in the house, there was a husband and wife living in the house. For example, Atika, who was pregnant 7 months ago, lost the fetus she was carrying and eventually died of suicide. Unable to contain depression due to the fact that Atika was pregnant by a genie because her husband was sentenced to be barren and chose the path to pesugihan in order to have children. Finally, Atika who died took her revenge at the house.

Plots and Reviews

In my opinion, at the beginning of the film, this film has a good plot. However, in the second part, after they moved home, the story and plot of the film became increasingly lost and had no direction. Lots of empty plots and missing scenes. The story is even more fabricated and feels forced, especially at the end, the story is built like hanging without clarity.

Honestly, this film has a lot of information about Sundanese culture that is nicely told and is really a positive value in this film. But again and again, the same as Indonesian horror films in general, this film only seems to show a jump scare without a well-developed story. Sound effects that I think are too excessive which in the end only makes noise and headaches. The director wanted to build a spooky atmosphere but it became a film that was quite noisy because it didn't fit the existing setting.

There are so many strange and contrived parts, including the scene of killing a cat that shouldn't be done. Honestly, it's not that I'm a cat lover who would be very surprised by this scene, but there's no reason to kill a cat at a time like that.

That's the review of the film 'Devil in the womb' that I can tell you. If you're curious, please watch it in theaters, I don't know if it's still there or not. While watching this I was interested because it was going viral on social media, there was a woman who was in a trance in the cinema while in the middle of showing the film, and made me curious and ended up spending money without getting an interesting story.
