Movies are one of the most appropriate forms of entertainment when we are free at home. Not a few people make movies as a place to relax themselves. For me, watching movies or series is mandatory every week, that's why I like to subscribe to Netflix, Disney Hotstar or VIU every month. Watching new movies or repeating old movies that I like.

Last week, I accidentally played a film which is one of the best Indonesian films in 2019. This film is directed by Gina S. Noer who won many awards thanks to this film. Dua Garis Biru (note eng: Two Blue Lines) is a film about teenage pregnancy which is a serious issue in our society. The reality of society, especially teenagers who are very close to everyday life.

Dua Garis Biru (2019)
Importance Sex Education

Movie Moral Message

Maybe in foreign countries, sex education has been implemented, especially for developed countries who understand the concept of sex education which can help prepare teenagers to know the importance of taking care of themselves and the dangers of teenage pregnancy. To be honest, in Indonesia, sex education is still very taboo and 'pamali' or difficult to talk about. This makes teenagers do not know the causes and consequences that will occur if pregnancy occurs during adolescence.

When I was a teenager, my parents, teachers and the environment never taught me about the dangers of having sex as a teenager. What are the problems that will occur if you are pregnant, have never heard of contraceptives, even diseases that will be transmitted if you have sexual intercourse. All I know is that I can't date and be close to the opposite sex.

With this film, the director wants to educate teenagers to be more aware of themselves, especially the causes and effects that occur if we have sex as a teenager/pregnant outside of marriage. This film is the only film that dares to discuss issues that are rarely discussed by the public. In fact, this film is very important, especially for teenagers to get to know sex education.

For some time, this film was rejected by the public because they were afraid that teenagers would imitate it. In fact this film is packaged well with a slightly sad ending. Honestly, the ending of this film is a highlight for me, of course the ending makes this film a must watch for teenagers, because of the dangers that occur due to teenage pregnancy.

From this film, too, a lot of knowledge can be given as input to parents if this happens, for example, how do parents behave in making difficult decisions about the children. And also what is the right way to educate children and how to convey sex education as early as possible for children.

One more thing, this film also teaches how we should not judge anyone. That when an unwanted pregnancy occurs in a teenager, it is not only the perpetrators who are at fault, that the parents have contributed to the mistake. How parents should be more vigilant and teach their children that being a parent and having children is a lifelong responsibility. Getting married at a young age is not an easy thing and should not be tried if you are not ready.

Favorite Movie Part

At first, this movie bore me because I thought it was just a normal teen movie. As the story progressed, this film made me more curious and received fresh air from Indonesian romance films. Very different from most other romance films, until there are film scenes that have an implied meaning. For example, Bima and Dara wanted to visit an illegal abortion practice (in Indonesia there is no legal abortion doctor except in urgent cases), while waiting in line, Dara asked Bima for strawberry juice, during the scene where the seller was blending the fruit, Dara was scared to see the crushed fruit, Dara asked to go home and the abortion was cancelled. Finally they still maintain the fetus in Dara's womb.

One of the parts that I liked was also during the one shoot at the school clinic, when I found out that Dara was pregnant at school, the acting of the six actors, namely; Dara's parents, played by Lulu Tobing and Dwi Sasono, then Bima's parents, played by Arswendi and Cut Mini, are so emotionally draining like riding a roller coaster. The actors really build strong characters, so the audience is amazed by this one shoot part.

Synopsis

Two Blue Lines (Dua Garis Biru), starting from the love story of 2 teenagers who love each other, finally have sexual intercourse as a teenager. The problem was born when Dara finally got pregnant while they were still high school seniors, the two couples had different social status backgrounds, eventually getting married because Dara was pregnant so that Bima was responsible. However, they have to live a new life as prospective parents, with Dara's ambitions to continue studying in Korea and Bima having to drop out of school to support his new family. Will they survive? Then it's better to watch on Netflix, prepare popcorn and soda! Enjoy watching!!

In Latin American countries there is also the problem of teenage pregnancy. Some time ago I talked about this with a friend from Spain, she told me that she was surprised that in my country there were such young parents.

I will look for the movie on Netflix

In my country, during the covid period, many teenagers got married because schools were closed. This issue is very serious because after marriage, many divorced. Hopefully this film can awaken many teenagers to repeat the decision to marry at a young age.

This is similar to a korean movie more than a family. Educative movie like this one is often rejected with irrational fears of teenager imitating them but what these people don't account is that some teenagers may have done that without a proper education which is 10x more concerning than debating whether movie like this should be aired or not.

Yes, it's similar to the movie more than family, which was played by Krystal Jung. Although the ending is very different.

I agree, that a film like this should not be rejected by many people because it has a good meaning, especially if it dramatizes a sad ending, so that many teenagers can understand that they did things at the wrong time.
