The upcoming American superhero film Madame Web is based on the same-named Marvel Comics character and is being produced by Columbia Pictures and Di Bonaventura Pictures in association with Marvel Entertainment. The Spider-Man Universe (SSU) film series from Sony Pictures Releasing is expected to feature four installments. The film's director, S. J. Clarkson, is also a co-writer of the screenplay alongside Claire Parker, Matt Sazama, and Burk Sharpless.

Dakota Johnson takes the major part, with Sydney Sweeney, Tahar Rahim, Celeste O'Connor, and Isabela Merced rounding out the cast. While trying to save the futures of three young women from a deadly enemy, Johnson's character Cassie Webb in the film faces her past.

The film is a suspense thriller that, in contrast to many other superhero movies that have come out, takes a more realistic and grounded approach to telling the origin tale of the title character in a standalone universe.
