At different times in the history of television, various types of adverts have been produced to promote different products. Today, with the rise of the internet, the story is different, but there is still plenty of advertising. In the past, they were a novelty, and some were so good that they stuck in people’s minds because of their creativity and because, for the time, they were truly groundbreaking.
En distintas épocas de la historia de la televisión se han hecho diferente tipo de publicidades para promocionar distintos productos. Hoy con el auge de internet la historia es distinta, pero aún sigue habiendo mucha publicidad. Antaño ellas eran una novedad y había algunas que eran tan buenas que quedaban grabadas en la memoria por su creatividad y porque para la época era todo un adelanto.

En los programas de televisión siempre hubo espacios que se dedicaban a la publicidad, que eran las que pagaban un programa de TV. Algunas publicidades competían entre sí cuando por ejemplo se referían a proveedores de un mismo servicio. Otras eran icónicas de una marca, muchas de ellas se han hecho inolvidables.
Y además cada país ha tenido sus propias publicidades, de acuerdo a las marcas propias de cada uno de ellos. Hoy miro hacia atrás y recuerdo muchas de esas publicidades, que, cuando era niña, veía en medio de mis programas favoritos. Por supuesto no recuerdo todas, pero muchas estan por siempre grabadas en mí.
Otra de las cosas fabulosas de internet, es que muchas de esas publicidades, aunque no en excelente calidad, han sido llevadas a YouTube y hoy están a nuestro alcance para volverlas a ver las veces que queramos, recordar otros tiempos y hasta poder ver muchas que ni siquiera conocíamos.
Recordando publicidades de cuando era más joven, más bien cuando miraba más televisión y para ser sincera donde las publicidades eran inocentes, alegres y sacaban una sonrisa, además de ser muy creativas, muchas vinieron a mi mente. Incluso he hablado con mi familia acerca de ellas, me han recordado varias y se generó una linda charla.
On television programmes, there were always slots dedicated to adverts, which were what funded a TV programme. Some adverts competed with one another, for example when they were for providers of the same service. Others were iconic for a particular brand, and many of them have become unforgettable.
What’s more, every country has had its own adverts, reflecting the brands specific to each one. Today, I look back and remember many of those adverts which, as a child, I used to watch in the middle of my favourite programmes. Of course, I don’t remember them all, but many are etched in my memory forever.
Another fabulous thing about the internet is that many of those adverts, although not in excellent quality, have been uploaded to YouTube and are now at our fingertips, so we can watch them again as often as we like, reminisce about times gone by, and even discover many we didn’t even know existed.
Thinking back to adverts from when I was younger, or rather, when I watched more television, and, to be honest, when adverts were innocent, cheerful and brought a smile to your face, as well as being very creative, many came to mind. I’ve even talked to my family about them; they’ve reminded me of several, and it sparked a lovely chat.

Hoy les traigo algunas de ellas, todas bastante antiguas pero que eran un clásico de la televisión argentina. Por supuesto las grandes marcas eran las que más publicitaban y dentro de ellas había una empresa de telefonía llamada Telecom. Luego pasa que esas empresas siguen existiendo, pero cambian su nombre, se fusionan con otras empresas, pero en ese momento había unas publicidades muy graciosas aludiendo a las llamadas y para tal fin usaron la figura de un animal típico de argentina: La llama.
Es increíble lo que han logrado hacer. Les traigo un video con una recopilación de 21 publicidades, todas muy graciosas, donde las llamas hablan, son familia y hablan por teléfono sin medir costo. Esto era para explicar que hacer una llamada era tan barata que hasta las llamas podían hablar por teléfono.
Today I’m sharing a few of them with you, they’re all quite old, but they were classics of Argentine television. Of course, the big brands were the ones that advertised the most, and amongst them was a telecoms company called Telecom. These companies still exist today, of course, but they’ve changed their names or merged with other firms; back then, however, there were some very funny adverts alluding to phone calls, and to that end they used an animal typical of Argentina: the llama.
It’s incredible what they managed to achieve. Here’s a video featuring a compilation of 21 adverts, all very funny, in which the llamas talk, act like a family and make phone calls without worrying about the cost. The aim was to show that making a call was so cheap that even llamas could talk on the phone.

La segunda publicidad que les traigo es de una marca de mayonesa, Hellmann's, llamada también confusión, de la década de los años 90, que es una marca internacional, pero por supuesto en cada país se hacían publicidades propias con el léxico propio. En este caso la publicidad es muy graciosa, alude a una cena en familia, pero con invitados y como por una llamada telefónica, la cual se lleva a cabo entre un padre y su niña pequeña, puede haber malos entendidos graciosos, pero donde la solución a todo es esa mayonesa.
The second advert I’m showing you is for a mayonnaise brand, Hellmann’s, also known as ‘Confusion’, from the 1990s. It’s an international brand, but of course each country produced its own adverts using its own vocabulary. In this case, the advert is very funny; it refers to a family dinner with guests, and because of a phone call between a father and his young daughter, there are some amusing misunderstandings, but the solution to everything is that mayonnaise.

La siguiente es una publicidad de autos o coches, en este caso de la marca Clío, también conocida como publicidad del Clío diablo, que data del año 1998. El mensaje que aporta esta publicidad se da al final de la misma donde se refuerza el poder de esa marca en especial, hasta el punto de sobrepasar los poderes del diablo. Siempre estas publicidades han sido realizadas por actores argentinos y ésta en particular ha sido muy conocida y famosa. Los efectos visuales para la época eran excelentes, creo que por eso quedó tan marcada en la memoria esta publicidad.
The following is a car advert, in this case for the Clio brand, also known as the ‘Clio Diablo’ advert, dating from 1998. The message conveyed by this advert comes at the very end, where the power of this particular brand is emphasised to the point of surpassing even the powers of the devil. These adverts have always featured Argentine actors, and this one in particular has been very well known and famous. The visual effects were excellent for the time; I think that’s why this advert has remained so firmly etched in people’s memories.

Por último, en esta primera publicación sobre el tema, les traigo dos publicidades de la misma marca, muy famosa en Argentina, Quilmes, una marca de cerveza. Esta marca ha hecho infinidad de publicidades, todas excelentes, por supuesto mejorando la calidad a través del paso del tiempo. Pero en esta oportunidad les traigo una que ha sido muy famosa, sobre la utilización de la cerveza en un casamiento multitudinario.
El segundo video es de una de las publicidades de la marca como sponsor oficial de la selección argentina de futbol. De este tipo de publicidades hay muchas y todas fabulosas. Esta vez les traigo una de las más famosas, y aunque es muy vieja y la calidad no es muy buena, la canción es excelente.
Finally, in this first post on the subject, I’m sharing two adverts from the same brand, Quilmes, a beer brand that’s very famous in Argentina. This brand has produced countless adverts, all of them excellent, and the quality has, of course, improved over time. But on this occasion, I’m sharing one that has been particularly famous, featuring the use of beer at a huge wedding.
The second video is one of the brand’s adverts as the official sponsor of the Argentine national football team. There are many adverts of this kind, and they’re all brilliant. This time I’m sharing one of the most famous ones, and although it’s quite old and the quality isn’t great, the song is excellent.

Por todo esto, el tema que propongo para este mes dentro de la comunidad es que traigan videos y sus reseñas con experiencias propias, anécdotas o historias sobre publicidades que sean destacadas en sus propios países o si era internacional también es válida, de esas publicidades que aparecían en la televisión entre los programas de cada día. Muchas de ellas están en Youtube y será genial conocer publicidades famosas de diversos lugares, compartirlas aquí y hablar al respecto.
