Fantasy & Drama ~ Wolf Children - Review

WOLF CHILDREN

Today, I am going to review an amazing anime movie it called Wolf Children. This movie has this charm in traditional art form for the big screen. This animated movie is drawn to perfection in anime style.

Wolf Children is a tale of two children who have been born to a normal human which is a female and their father is a werewolf man. Through their father they inherit wolves blood and has the ability to turn into a wolf. One day an accident occurred and their father died and then their mother takes a risk to move into the countryside, where they can live a simple life the farm land and she wanted to raise her children in peace because if public came to know about the wolf children’s then they would make experiments on them. To keep them safe she had to move away in a safe place for them.

The mother was fearing that her children may get exposed to be wolf-human hybrids to the general public. Well, in the beginning she faced tantrums of other people for her children and it was more critical when her kids felt sick, At the farming place neighbourhood was very far away, the mother with two children started a new life, this animated movie brings admiration to all the mothers who are struggling to settle up their children in unfamiliar surroundings.

Yuki is the older child, at the very beginning she is very outgoing and brave and she was much more comfortable with her wolf blood more than her sibling Ame he is more careful about the wolf inside him, Yuki is out of reach something that Ame can only understand more about the wolf thing.

I must praise the character of the mother her name is Hana. She shows how mothers struggle for their children and try to protect them in the best possible way and it's her human nature that gives her that much strength as a single mother.
The rest of the movie follows that how Hana up held the responsibility to raise them as they grow up and deal with their demands, situations, habits & morals.

Yuki is unable to control switching from human to wolf form. Hana. Yuki becomes very restless and active while Ame just want to stay by his mother all the time. Life style in the countryside was very difficult at first, Yuki and Ame have moments of adventure inside the forest. Nirasaki was always there to help them out as a neighbour. He also helped Hana to plant potatoes. She used to exchange with potatoes for needy items. Once Ame while catching a kingfisher then he fell into a river. But luckily Yuki saved him.

Yuki began school at approximately the age of 5 and she had to follow every direction that her mother would give and they both also made a promise that Yuki would never transform into a wolf in-front of anyone. Yuki gradually passes school then she also made some friends. Yuki used to collect things that would frighten her friends. Such as bones and this scene made me laugh a lot I could feel the situation.Ame also tried to attend school but he didn’t last long because he got bullied.

Few years passed when Yuki was approximately in the 3rd grade. At that time a new transfer student came his name is Sohei and after a while he knew something was up with Yuki then he decided to follow her but Yuki noticed and became angry and transformed into her wolf form and ended up cutting his ear. Her class came to know about it and suspected Yuki. for this reason Yuki decided not to attend school anymore and Sohei visited daily to give her homework also he used to gather some foods. At first Yuki didn’t wish to see him and at class Sohei saved Yuki by saying that a wolf attacked him. After that Sohei visited Yuki few more time and then they became friends.

Meanwhile Ame started to travel into the mountains very often and used to visit a fox who was the leader of the forest and Ame used to call him sensei. Because he used to learn things from his sensei and thought of him as his teacher.

One day after a argument between Yuki & Ame about the topic them being human or wolf. They fought each other and transferred into the wolf form. Both of them caused destruction inside the house and Hana tried to stop them. Then she knew both of them want to go on different paths from each other.

Once a big storm occurred which made Ame be worried that something bad will happen. Ame started to visit the mountains more often. Aftering returning, Ame talk to his mother about that his sensei’s leg is injured and he might die so, Ame might have to take over the responsibilities for the forest and the sake of his sensei. Hana was pleading him to stay home. Again a big storm was passing by, every children got out of classes very earlier. Except for four kids were left behind and two of them was Yuki & Sohei. But both of them were left behind no one noticed them.

Ame left the house then Hana tried find her son then needed up falling and was sliding down the hills. At that time, Sohei and Yuki were hiding in a classroom. Sohei shared about his personal life about his mom getting married and once a new baby is born his mom would not need him anymore also shares about his dream to become a boxer or wrestler. Yuki also revealed about her being wolf and she attacked to Sohei but he said he already knew that from the beginning and did not let anyone else find it out. He made promise to not tell anyone.

Then Hana found herself sleeping in the forest. She also had a dream about her wolf man was there with her in a field filled with flowers. Her wolf man told her that she has raised the children very well and also added that Ame has become an adult.

But in real she was carried by her son to an abandoned parking lot. When he was setting her down it wakes up Hana. Hana again was pleading for his son to come back but then he turned into a wolf and and runs off. He was on the mountain side and started to howl for a long period. Ame then stopped howling while Hana said goodbye to him.

After that incident 2 years passed and it was seen that Hana is still living in the house at countryside.

There are many episodes in Wolf Children that covers a the distance of emotions. Moreover, children’s innocence will not get stray on you in fact it will be passed on to you. I find the story very heartwarming and there are also dark parts that was very heart wrenching moment for me. I got goosebumps while watching this movie and it’s full of emotions.

Overall, Wolf Children is a must watch movie and my favourite forever. In the end of the movie thoughtful moments are seen where the wolf children as teenagers finally started to make decisions about which worlds they want to belong to. Everyone must give this movie a try.
