On the other side... this phrase is said about something that is beyond some real or imaginary fences that are set for us, or we set them ourselves for example tightly locking the doors relying on the steel of a padlock that it will not give us security and peace but probably the variable here is the side on which we are from this lock.

Moreover the lock can irritate us if it either stops opening or it opens too easily and it is difficult to call it reliable.

But any lock bad or good is a symbol of what we have limited and the sight of an unfamiliar lock motivates us to think about what can be hiding there behind the doors closed by this lock.

A little surrealism I think will not completely spoil this old padlock in a monochrome photograph.
