Hey, Movies/TV series lovers.

Well, it’s been a very long busy week for me and I’m glad it ended well. It’s the weekend already and I’m super excited.
I was going through my Netflix a few days back as I needed to see a movie when I stumbled on this series The Fall Of The House Of Usher at first the cover photo caught my attention and finally I found every bit of it intriguing and couldn’t help but stay glued to my screen for a long time.

The Fall Of The House Of Usher was released on Netflix on October 12th, 2023. It’s an American gothic horror drama television miniseries. It has eight (8) episodes, each directed by either Flanagan or Michael Fimognari. This miniseries was created by Flanagan and I must say he did a great job.

PLOT SUMMARY

A corrupt pharmaceutical company, Fortunato Pharmaceutical is headed by the CEO Roderick Usher played by Bruce Greenwood, and his twin sister Madeline Usher. This series follows two timelines from 1953 to 1980, then to 2023.
It starts with episode one, the evening after the final funeral of the death of his last 3 children. Roderick Usher invites the attorney in person of C. Auguste Dupin to confess.

The attorney has spent all his life fighting to expose the corruption done by the pharmaceutical company (Fortunato Pharmaceutical). He was shocked when he received a call from Roderick that he wanted to confess. On getting there, Roderick decided to start the confession by first talking about the death of his mother down to the death of his children, and how they all died.

He spoke of how he and his sister Madeline were able to rise to power and take over the pharmaceutical company.
It is shocking as it may seem to others that the death of his children was natural but then it was realized later by Roderick and his sister that there seems to be a familiar face of a lady (Verna) whom they met years back in every clip of his children’s death. This made them make inquiries about her through their lawyer Pym.

They forgot how they made an oath with the devil which states that they would have all the power they want and would not even lose any court case if at all they would be brought to court but at the end of the day when it was time for Roderick to die, all his generation born will die with him.”

Well, they made this deal years ago after they secured the Fortunato pharmaceutical company and needed to get seen by people to cover their deeds. That was how they walked into a certain bar and met the lady who happened to be the devil and they made a deal. At the end of the day, there was a fall in the house of the usher as every generation of his died.

Each episode talks about the death of each of his 6 children with throwbacks to the previous years and situations leading to the next.

ACTING

Honestly, Carla Gugino (Verna) did a great job with her character. She acted so well. Her lines were on point, her facial expressions and everything. She made everything feel real. She was so great at appearing as different characters in the lives of all his children, that I got confused at some point.

Roderick Usher and His Twin Madeline Usher were good. I love their younger selves and how ambitious Madeline's character was. She called the shots for her brother more like the queen on a chessboard. Roderick on the other hand did great with all scenes even the scene where he kept having hallucinations it all felt real to me at some point.

Not leaving out other casts from the series his children Fredrick Usher, and Tamerlane Usher, who were Roderick’s legitimate children from one woman, and his other children who were from different mothers Camille L’Espanaya, Leo Usher, Victorine LaFourcade, Perry Usher.

I love how well the attorney Dupin played his role so well and also Roderick’s attorney Pym, At one scene, I felt that Pym would give in to Verna’s deal but he didn’t.
Well, the rest Cast as well they all deserve an accolade.

MY REVIEW/RATING

I love every bit of this series for several reasons. I love how one can not predict the next scene. You just can’t help with the suspense as you would love to see what happens next.

Most scenes were real at some point, especially the scene where Camille died while visiting Victorine labs filled with Chimpanzees.

It was difficult for me to guess who verna was, I thought she needed revenge for the death of a loved one whom their drugs killed or she was his past lover or a ghost. It took me a while to realize who she was.

I love how the plot was structured. Roderick was able to navigate from 2023, back to 1953 to 1980.
I would give this series an 8.5/10. It beats my imagination.

I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves horror movies even if it’s not as scary as you would imagine.
