Daryl Dixon, Review IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THE LAST OF US (ENG/SPA) (NO SPOILERS)
Hello, people of the internet. Today I want to talk to you about a series that I've been looking forward to for a long time and it involves my favourite character from The Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon. I have to admit that there were some things that I didn't know for sure how they were going to work within the series, but finally watching the first episode I started to give you context, so here's my analysis of my first impression of the series.
Hola, gente de Internet. Hoy quiero hablarles de una serie que esperaba desde hace mucho y es que involucra a mi personaje preferido de la serie The Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon. Tengo que admitir que había algunas cosas que no sabía a ciencia cierta como iban a funcionar dentro de la serie, pero viendo por fin el primer episodio les empecé a dar contexto, así que aquí va mi análisis de la primera impresión que tengo de la serie.
I have to talk about the staging, it's spectacular, it looks cinematic, it looks more like a movie than a series and you'll understand what I mean, you can see the production and the budget behind the episodes. The photography is another of the aspects that I liked the most about the series, it's something that TWD already had but in certain seasons it lost. In Daryl Dixon there are super interesting shots, right at the start we have a trio of shots that help give context to the scene, one aerial, one underwater and finally a rotating one that shows us the immensity of the sea... they show us a disoriented Daryl arriving at a beach tied to an overturned boat. This scene leaves the viewer with confusion and that's what it's all about as we don't know for sure how Daryl got to France from the U.S.A., I thought it was a very good resource.
Tengo que hablar de la puesta en escena, es espectacular, se ve cinematográfico, parece más una película que una serie y ya entenderán a que me refiero, se le nota la producción y el presupuesto detrás de los episodios. La fotografía es otro de los aspectos que más me gustaron de la serie, es algo que ya tenía TWD pero en ciertas temporadas las perdió. En Daryl Dixon hay planos super interesantes, nada más empezar tenemos un trio de planos que ayudan a dar contexto de la escena, uno aéreo, uno bajo el agua y finalmente uno giratorio que nos muestra la inmensidad del mar... nos muestran a un Daryl desorientado que llega a una playa amarrado a un bote volcado. Esta escena deja al espectador con confusión y de eso se trata ya que no sabemos a ciencia cierta como Daryl llegó a Francia desde U.S.A, me pareció un muy buen recurso.
The performances are pretty good, Norman Reedus of course doesn't surprise me but for example Clémence Poésy does, not because I thought she was a bad actress but because I had only seen her acting in Harry Potter and to tell the truth, her participation was not very memorable or remarkable, so I was pleasantly surprised. The same thing happened to me with the villains, they have a very good staging, they feel menacing and for a few scenes in a single episode that's saying a lot.
Las actuaciones son bastante buena, de Norman Reedus por supuesto no me sorprende pero por ejemplo de Clémence Poésy sí, no porque pensara que es mala actriz sino que solo la había visto actuando en Harry Potter y a decir verdad, su participación fue poco memorable o destacable, así que me sorprendió gratamente. Lo mismo me pasó con los villanos, tienen una muy buena puesta en escena, se sienten amenazantes y para unas cuantas escenas en un solo episodio es decir mucho.
On the other hand, the locations are extremely impressive and beautiful, let's say that what I liked the most in TWD was the forests and fields of Georgia for example, but in this series we see European architecture and I filled my eyes with some scenes.
Por otro lado, las locaciones son en extremo impresionantes y preciosas, digamos que lo que más me gustaba de TWD era los bosques y campos de Georgia por ejemplo pero en esta serie vemos arquitectura europea y me llené los ojos con algunas escenas.
The dynamism of the episodes is very well done, the episodes (the first two which are the ones that have been released) feel quite funny and entertaining, I feel that the second one had a "filler" plot but still the plot was quite good, in this second episode they also delve into the past of two of the new characters and that makes the plot move forward.
El dinamismo de los episodios está muy bien hecho, los episodios (los dos primeros que son los que han salido) se sienten bastante divertidos y entretenidos, siento que el segundo tuvo una trama "relleno" pero aún así la trama fue bastante buena, en este segundo episodio además se profundiza en el pasado de dos de los personajes nuevos y eso hace que la trama avance.
Now, I've seen some people comparing this series to The last of Us, saying that Daryl Dixon is a copy of this series etc and the truth is nothing further from the truth. For starters, I don't understand how some people like The last of Us, I mean, the series is nowhere near as good as the games (but it's typical that bringing a video game to live action sucks) in the series in that universe over the course of 4 episodes or so, you barely see like two infected and in flashback, while in The Walking dead universe, although there are human villains, always the biggest danger are the walkers as they are the real protagonists, they are the reason why the world is post-apocalyptic, AMC does not need to copy a series with so little work when they are experts in carrying its theme.
Ahora bien, he visto a algunas personas comparando esta serie con The last of Us, diciendo que Daryl Dixon es una copia de esta serie etc, y la verdad nada más lejos de la realidad. Para empezar, no entiendo como hay gente que le gusta The last of Us, es decir, la serie no es ni remotamente tan buena como los juegos (pero es típico que al llevar un videojuego al live action sea un asco) en la serie de ese universo a lo largo de 4 episodios más o menos, apenas se ven como a dos infectados y en flashback, mientras que en el universo de The Walking dead, pese a que hay villanos humanos, siempre el mayor peligro son los caminantes ya que son los protagonistas reales, son la razón por la que el mundo es postapocalíptico, AMC no necesita copiar una serie con tan poco trabajo cuando son expertos en llevar su temática.
They compare them because in TLOU the main character must travel to bring the cure to a safe place to save the world and technically in Daryl Dixon is suspecting the same thing, however, in the TWD comics (and later in the series) there is a similar plot where Eugene Porter claims to be a scientist in charge of the cure research and they must protect him and take him to Washintgon, so we could say that TLOU copied the TWD universe. But the truth is that making both comparisons is stupid because as similar as some universes or plots are, they're going about it in very different ways, too, by the time the last episodes of TLOU season were coming out they were already finishing filming Daryl Dixon and the episode that reinforced the comparison is the second episode of Daryl Dixon and they compare it with one of the last episodes of TLOU season so it would be impossible that there was a "copy" not even that some of the people in charge of TLOU leaked the idea to the people of Daryl Dixon because there wouldn't be time to film the copied scenes.
Los comparan porque en TLOU el protagonista debe viajar para llevar a la cura a un lugar seguro para salvar al mundo y técnicamente en Daryl Dixon se está sospechando lo mismo, sin embargo, en los comics de TWD (y posteriormente en la serie) hay una trama similar donde Eugene Porter dice ser un científico a cargo de la investigación de la cura y deben protegerlo y llevarlo a Washintgon, así que si a ver vamos, podríamos decir que TLOU copió al universo de TWD. Pero la verdad es que hacer ambas comparaciones es estúpido porque por más similares que sean algunos universos o tramas, lo van llevando de maneras muy diferentes, además, para cuando los últimos episodios de temporada de TLOU estaban saliendo ya estaban terminando de grabar Daryl Dixon y el episodio que reforzó la comparación es el segundo episodio de Daryl Dixon y lo comparan con uno de los últimos de la temporada de TLOU, así que sería imposible que hubiese una "copia" ni siquiera que algunos de los encargados de TLOU les filtraran la idea a los de Daryl Dixon ya que no habría tiempo para grabar las escenas copiadas

I may give this a go. I lost interest in The Walking Dead and its spin-offs, but if they really gave this the budget it needed, it might be enough to pull me in.
We are talking about the series that stars the best TWD character (the series of course) Daryl is the most beloved, most popular character and Norman Reedus is an excellent actor capable of carrying the entire series on his shoulders by himself, that is why that started on the right foot and I wish you a good future
Una producción que es la primera vez que la veo y nos presenta una trama increíble y sorbe todo la presencia de es gran actor, así que la cosa estarán muy buenas y llevar las cosas a otro nivel, además cada una de las responsabilidades que tiene en juego para así poder obtener grandes recompensas. Es bastante buena, al menos sus dos primeros episodios que son los que han salido, generan una muy buena impresión en el espectador
