Eli [ESP/ENG]
Hello, internet people, how are you? Today I want to talk to you about Eli, a film about a boy with a rare autoimmune disease that forces him to live isolated from the outside world. In an attempt to give him a better quality of life, or even a definitive cure, his parents take him to a hospital, which is more like an old mansion. There, Dr. Horn is in charge of the experimental treatment. However, the boy begins to experience terrifying visions of noises and ghosts that inhabit the house, although there is a rather significant plot twist at the end.
Hola, gente de internet ¿Cómo están? Hoy quiero hablar les de Elí, es una película sobre un niño con una extraña enfermedad autoinmune que lo obliga a vivir aislado del mundo exterior. En un intento por darle una mejor calidad de vida o incluso una solución definitiva, sus padres lo llevan a un hospital, que es más bien una mansión vieja, allí la encargada del tratamiento experimental sería la Dra. Horn, no obstante el niño empieza a tener viriones terroríficas sobre ruidos y fantasmas que habitan la casa, aunque al final hay un giro argumental bastante importante.
The first hour focuses almost entirely on horror; we practically see everything from Eli's perspective, and I must admit they handle the horror well, although there are moments when the viewer doubts whether everything happening is real or a product of some medication in his treatment. The performances play an essential role in this, and they are honestly brilliant. However, what doesn't quite convince me is that the plot is excessively shifting, which makes it unstable. At the beginning, it's about the illness and everything the boy has to go through to live with it, then it's about the ghosts, and in the end... I definitely think they went overboard there.
La primera hora se enfoca casi netamente en el terror, prácticamente vemos todo desde la perspectiva de Eli, y debo reconocer que tienen un buen manejo del terror, aunque hay momentos en que el espectador duda acerca de si todo lo que ocurre es real o producto de algún fármaco del tratamiento. En esto juegan un papel esencial las actuaciones, que son honestamente brillantes, sin embargo lo que no me convence del todo es que la trama es excesivamente cambiante, lo que la vuelve inestable. Al inicio se trata de la enfermedad y todo por lo que el niño tiene que pasar para vivir con ella, luego se trata de los fantasmas y al final... definitivamente me parece que ahí exageraron.
However, I think what I could salvage from the plot is that it stands out from the norm. I don't want to reveal anything significant to avoid spoilers, and that's why I'm not being too specific, but while lately horror movies seem unfinished, with open endings that never close, this one left its ending very well defined, and the boy makes a decision that frankly surprised me, since I thought it would be based more on clichés, but it wasn't.
Sin embargo creo que lo que podría rescatar de la trama es que se sale de lo común, no quiero rebelar nada significativo para no hacer spoilers y por eso no estoy siendo demasiado concreta, pero si bien últimamente las películas de terror parecen inconclusas, con finales abiertos que nunca se cierran, esta dejó su final muy bien definido, y el niño toma una decisión que francamente me sorprendió, ya que pensé que se basaría más en el cliché, pero no fue así.
And I wouldn't say it's a great movie, but at least they made good use of resources, handled the horror well, had good effects and acting, so in my opinion it was entertaining, good to watch on a weekend or a boring day when you're looking for something to pass the time.
Y no diría que es una gran película, pero al menos tuvieron un buen uso de recursos, del manejo del terror, tuvo buenos efectos y actuaciones, así que en mi opinión fue entretenida, buena para ver un fin de semana o un día de tedio cuando buscas algo en lo que puedas pasar el tiempo.
