Flavor of my youth [Anime Movie Review] ESP/ENG
Hello, internet people! How are you? Today I'm here to talk to you about an anime I recently discovered, a beautiful film that presents three different but very profound stories, stories that make you think about your life and everything that revolves around it. One story in particular caught my attention and I really enjoyed it; it's called "Rice Noodles." In fact, I suppose the film's title comes from this first story 😊.
¡Hola, gente de internet! ¿Cómo están Hoy vengo a hablarles de un anime que encontré hace poco, una película bellísima que nos muestra tres historias diferentes pero con mucha profundidad, historias que te ponen a pensar sobre tu vida y lo que gira entorno a ella. En especial me llamó la atención y me gustó mucho una en específico, la cuál se llama "Los fideos de arroz", de hecho supongo que el nombre de la película proviene de esta primera historia 😊.
This short film tells the story of a young man who works and lives in a big city. However, every time he eats, he begins to reminisce about his simple, peaceful life with his grandmother in his hometown. He especially remembers the rice noodles he used to eat as a child at a restaurant his grandmother took him to. The protagonist starts comparing the quality of processed foods in supermarkets and restaurants with the food he used to eat. As a chef, I fully understand the importance of flavors, not only on the palate but also on human memory. Flavors have the power to transport us back in time and allow us to relive experiences.
Este corto nos muestra la historia de un joven que trabaja y vive en una gran ciudad, sin embargo cada vez que va a comer comienza a recordar su vida sencilla y tranquila junto a su abuela en su pueblo de procedencia, en especial recuerda los fideos de arroz que solía comer en su infancia en un restaurante donde lo llevaba su abuelita. El protagonista comienza a comparar la calidad de los alimentos industrializados de los supermercados y los restaurantes con la de los que él solía comer. Como chef puedo entender perfectamente la importancia que tienen los sabores, no solo en el paladar sino en la memoria de los seres humanos, los sabores son capaces de hacer que retrocedamos en el tiempo y revivamos experiencias.
Something else that caught my attention as a chef is the incredibly realistic detail in several of the cooking scenes: the precision and delicacy of the movements, the textures, the colors, and the way each element reacts to the movements and actions, all perfectly accompanied by sounds specific to each action. Wow! It's amazing, at least it was for me. It felt like I was watching a MasterChef episode instead of an animation 😄. No, seriously, it was extremely satisfying for me.
Algo que también llamó mi atención como chef, es los detalles tan realistas que tienen varias de las escenas donde están cocinando: la precisión y delicadeza de los movimientos, las texturas, los colores y la manera en que reacciona cada elemento a los movimientos y acciones, todo esto perfectamente acompañados por sonidos propios de cada acción ¡Wow! es sorprendente, al menos para mi lo es, parecía que en lugar de una animación yo estaba viendo un programa de Master Chef 😄, no, en serio, fue extremadamente satisfactorio para mi.
As for the other two stories, to be honest, I didn't like them as much as the first, except perhaps for "Love in Shanghai," which also has great depth. It's a story about three inseparable friends, although two of them are in love. Being shy teenagers, they don't dare reveal their feelings. Time passes, and both the boy and the girl make decisions that lead them down different paths. But later, a simple audio recording on a cassette clears up misunderstandings, stirs up feelings, and ultimately connects the past with the present.
En cuanto a las otras dos historias, para ser honesta con ustedes no me gustaron tanto como la primera, excepto tal vez "Amor en Shanghái" que también tiene una gran profundidad. Es una historia acerca de tres amigos que son inseparables, aunque dos de ellos están enamorados, pero como son adolescentes tímidos no se atreven a revelar sus sentimientos, el tiempo pasa y tanto el chico como la chica toman decisiones que los conducen a rumbos diferentes, pero más adelante, un simple audio grabado en un casette aclara malos entendidos, revuelve sentimientos y termina uniendo el pasado con el presente.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the film because it explores in a very realistic and emotional way the transition to adulthood, the loss of innocence and naiveté, the melancholy for those experiences we leave behind and would like to experience at least once more, but especially, how much our past influences our future.
En términos generales disfruté muchísimo de la película porque explora de forma muy realista y emotiva la transición a la adultez, la pérdida de inocencia y la ingenuidad, la melancolía por esas experiencias que dejamos atrás y que quisiéramos experimentar al menos una vez más, pero en especial, lo mucho que nuestro pasado influye en nuestro futuro.
