Hōhokekyo Tonari no Yamada-kun [Review] ESP/ENG
I just saw a Ghibli Studio movie that, if I hadn't seen the credits, I would never believe was from that studio, since it has a unique style and very different from what I was used to seeing, it is called Hōhokekyo Tonari no Yamada-kun or as we know it on this side of the world "My Neighbors the Yamadas" which is based on a manga (comic) of the same name, and according to what I read out there, it is the first film from the studio to be made by computer, but I will not go into further details, rather join me in this review to learn the interesting details that make up this work.
Acabo de ver una película de Estudios Ghibli que, si no hubiese visto los créditos jamás creería que son de ese estudio, ya que tiene un estilo único y muy diferente a lo que yo estaba acostumbrada a ver, se trata de Hōhokekyo Tonari no Yamada-kun o como la conocemos en este lado del mundo "Mis vecinos los Yamada" la cuál está basada en un manga (comic) homónimo, y según lo que leí por ahí es la primer película del estudio en realizarse por computadora, pero ya no me voy a extender más en materia de datos, más bien acompáñenme en esta review para conocer los detalles interesantes que componen a esta obra.
This film does not have a proper beginning, development and ending, at least not with the continuity usual in films, being based on a comic strip it is rather based on sketches that illustrate all the aspects and experiences of the Yamada family, an ordinary Japanese family of the late 90s, but what caught my attention at the beginning and I think the entire audience, is that it begins with a narration, it is the voice of a woman who is giving advice to a couple that is getting married, which is nothing more and nothing less than Mr. and Mrs. Yamada, this person warns them about the path they will have to take throughout their life together while they form a family, but while this happens we can see graphically and metaphorically all the obstacles overcome by the couple and then by the family 😊
Esta película no tiene propiamente un inicio desarrollo y cierre, al menos no con la continuidad acostumbrada en las películas, al estar basada en una tira cómica más bien se basa en sketches que ilustran todos los aspectos y vivencias de la familia Yamada, una familia común y corriente japonesa de finales de los años 90, pero lo que llamó mi atención al inicio y yo creo que a toda la audiencia, es que comienza con una narración, es la voz de una mujer que está dándole consejos a una pareja que se casa, la cuál es nada más y nada menos que el señor y la señora Yamada, esta persona los advierte acerca del camino que tendrán que recorrer a lo largo de su vida juntos mientras conforman una familia, pero mientras esto sucede podemos ver de forma gráfica y metafórica todos los obstáculos sorteados por la pareja y luego por la familia 😊
There are really many funny experiences that the family has and that on many occasions can make us feel identified with it, for example there is a part where Mr. Yamada is at work and calls home so that his wife looks for a folder that he supposedly left at home, she looks for it but doesn't find anything, he starts to get angry because he assumes that she is not looking well, and suddenly his secretary appears to ask him if the folder she just found is the one he is looking for, so he smiles nervously and tells his wife not to look for it anymore because it doesn't matter. 🤣 this made me remember my dad, he always loses everything and my mom always knows where everything is but many times he claims to have left something in a certain place and it is not like that.
De verdad son muchas las vivencias graciosas que tiene la familia y que en muchas ocasiones puede hacer que nos sintamos identificados con ella, por ejemplo hay una parte donde el señor Yamada está en su trabajo y llama a casa para que su esposa busque una carpeta que supuestamente se quedó en casa, ella la busca pero no encuentra nada, él comienza a enojarse porque supone que ella no está buscando bien, y de pronto su secretaria aparece para preguntarle si la carpeta que ella acaba de encontrar es la que él está buscando, así que él sonríe con nerviosismo y le dice a su esposa que ya no la busque porque no importa. 🤣 esto me hizo recordar a mi papá, siempre pierde todo y mi mamá siempre sabe donde está cada cosa pero muchas veces él afirma haber dejado algo en determinado lugar y no es así.
Although the Yamadas are actually closer to a dysfunctional family than a traditional one, we realize that living together is not easy at all. When many different personalities come together, rivalries arise, but at the end of the day, they are still a family, so there is mutual support, at least they try to solve problems, like that time when they left their youngest daughter behind in a shopping center.
Aunque los Yamada en realidad se acercan más a una familia disfuncional que a una tradicional, nos damos cuenta que en realidad la convivencia no es nada fácil, cuando se juntas muchas personalidades diferentes surgen rivalidades, pero al fin y al cabo no dejan de ser una familia, así que hay apoyo mutuo, al menos buscan solucionar los problemas, como esa ocasión en que dejaron olvidada a la hija menor en un centro comercial.
The drawing style is very interesting, it differs a lot from the aesthetics handled by Ghibli, more humanized and stylized, this one seems more in the style of Doraemón or Yamasaki, the king of the class, but this is because the film wanted to recall the aesthetics of the Manga on which the film is based, and this results, as I said, in something very interesting to see, it's like a "refreshment" so to speak, at least from my point of view. You always have to dare to do something different from what you are used to, to get out of your comfort zone.
El estilo de dibujo es muy interesante, difiere mucho de la estética que maneja Ghibli, más humanizada y estilizada, esta parece más del estilo de Doraemón o Yamasaki, el rey de la clase, pero esto se debe a que la película quiso recordar la estética del Manga en el que está basada la película, y esto resulta, tal como dije, en algo muy interesante de ver, es como un "refrescamiento" por llamarlo de alguna manera, al menos desde mi punto de vista. Siempre hay que atreverse a hacer algo diferente a lo acostumbrado, salir de la zona de confort.

¡Oye! Pues fíjate que no la he visto. Suena como algo súper fresco y distinto. Me da curiosidad eso de que no tenga una historia lineal, sino que sean como pedacitos de la vida de la familia. Definitivamente me dejaste intrigado con la reseña, parece una peli diferente pero con ese toque Ghibli de conectar con las cosas cotidianas. Tremenda película, me encantó, el inicio es toda una obra de arte. Me reí un montón cuando dejaron a la niña en el centro comercial, sobre todo por los comentarios que hacían, y también me dio risa la escena de los motorizados.
