Leo [Movie Review] ESP/ENG
Hello everyone! How are you? While browsing Netflix, I came across a movie I didn't have much faith in, and I started watching it more to kill time than out of genuine conviction. However, I discovered some interesting things that led me to write this review.
¡Hola Hola, gente de internet! ¿Cómo están? Revisando Netflix me encontré con una película a la que no le tenía mucha fe, y que empecé a ver más con la intención de matar el tedio que por verdadera convicción, sin embargo fui descubriendo cosas interesantes que me llevaron a redactar esta review
Leo is an old lizard and the mascot of a Florida elementary school. When he discovers he only has a year left to live, he seriously considers running away because he can't understand how, in 75 years, he's never experienced adventures outside or known what lies beyond his glass enclosure. But when the substitute teacher, Ms. Malkin, arrives, he truly has a chance. She encourages the children to take the mascot home to foster a sense of responsibility. However, the children discover that Leo can talk, and not only that, but instead of running away, he dedicates himself to listening to the children's needs and advising them about their insecurities and worries.
Leo es un lagarto viejo y además la mascota de una escuela primaria de Florida, al descubrir que solo le queda un año de vida comienza a plantarse la seria idea de huir de allí porque no puede entender como es que en 75 años nunca a probado vivir aventuras en el exterior o saber que hay más allá de su prisión de vidrio, pero cuando llega la maestra sustituta, la Sra. Malkin es cuando verdaderamente tiene una oportunidad, ya que ella insta a los niños a llevar la mascota a su casa para fomentar el sentido de la responsabilidad, sin embargo los niños descubren que Leo puede hablar, y no solo eso, sino que en lugar de huir él se dedica a escuchar las necesidades de los niños y a aconsejarlos acerca de sus inseguridades y preocupaciones
After watching the film, it immediately made me think about many things, but especially the fear of aging and of not having fulfilled all our planned goals—that terrible fear of having failed or of not having lived enough because, despite reaching a certain age, we never dared to look beyond our own limitations. However, the film, through Leo, leaves us with an invaluable lesson: it doesn't matter how intensely you live life, or whether you dedicated yourself to doing what you wanted, or whether you overcame your own challenges; what matters is the legacy you leave, the advice you give, how others remember you, having given your best to improve a place, a situation, a relationship—that's what truly matters.
Al terminar de ver la película me hizo pensar automáticamente en muchas cosas pero en especial el miedo al envejecimiento y a no haber cumplido con todas las metas previstas, ese terrible miedo a haber fracasado o a no haber vivido lo suficiente porque a pesar de tener cierta edad nunca nos atrevimos a mirar más allá de nuestras propias limitaciones. Sin embargo la película, a través de Leo, nos deja una valiosísima lección, y es que no importan con cuanta intensidad vivas la vida, o si te dedicaste o no a hacer lo que deseabas, si superaste tus propias retos, sino el legad que dejas, los consejos que das, la manera en que otros te recuerden, el haber dado lo mejor de ti para mejorar un espacio, una situación, una relación, eso es lo que importa.
The film also shows us the real fears of children, those insecurities that everyone has and that many of them are different from each other, depending of course on the context of each family: some deal with a lack of self-esteem, others with the overprotection of their parents, others are dealing with their parents' divorce, or suffer bullying at school, in short, but the important thing in the midst of all this is to generate trust to make communication more fluid, and in this way manage to connect with the children to show them that they are not alone.
La película también nos muestra los miedos reales de los niños, esas inseguridades que todos tienen y que muchas de ellas son diferentes entre sí, dependiendo del contexto de cada familia desde luego: algunos lidian con falta de autoestima, otros con la sobreprotección de sus padres, otros están lidiando con el divorcio de sus padres, o sufren acoso escolar, en fin, pero lo importante en medio de todo esto es generar confianza para hacer que la comunicación sea más fluida, y de esta manera lograr conectar son los niños para demostrarles que no están solos.
But we also discover that it's not just children who need help; adults also have traumas and insecurities that often limit their own abilities or end up hurting others, as is the case with Mrs. Malkin. However, Leo also gives her the opportunity to listen to her, to understand her, and ultimately helps her rediscover herself and realize that she is capable of doing many good things, for herself and for others. So, the film truly surprised me in a very pleasant way.
Pero además, también descubrimos que no solo los niños necesitan ayuda, los adultos también tienen traumas e inseguridades que muchas veces limitan sus propias capacidades o terminan lastimando a otros, como es el caso de Sra. Malkin, sin embargo Leo también le da la oportunidad de escucharla para entenderla y finalmente la ayuda a redescubriese a si misma y saber que es capaz de hacer muchas cosas buenas, por si misma y por otros. Así que de verdad la película me terminó sorprendiendo muy gratamente.
