Prism Rondo (Love Through a Prism) [Review] ESP/ENG
Hey everyone! Today I want to talk to you about an anime I've been watching recently: Love Through a Prism, or Prisma Rondo. It's an original anime, meaning it's not based on a manga; the story was created exclusively for animation.
¡Hola, gente de internet! Hoy quiero hablarles de un anime que he estado viendo recientemente, se trata de El Amor a Través de un Prisma, o Prisma Rondo. Es un anime original, es decir, no proviene de un manga, la historia fue hecha exclusivamente para animación.
It tells the story of Lily and Kit, two characters who are both different and alike. They come from different cultures, but both share a love of art, even though they have different perspectives and techniques. Lily arrived in England from Japan to study art at St. Thomas' Academy, but she does so under immense pressure to be top of her class, or else she will have to return to her country and resign herself to the life her parents, especially her mother, choose for her. Kit, on the other hand, is a young British nobleman, but at least at the beginning of the series, he lives a carefree life. However, as the plot unfolds, both characters begin to mature and understand their feelings.
Nos cuenta la historia de Lily y Kit, dos personajes diferentes e iguales al mismo tiempo, son de diferentes culturas, pero ambos comparten el amor por el arte, aunque tengan incluso diferentes perspectivas y técnicas. Lily llegó a Inglaterra desde Japón para estudiar arte en la academia Santo Tomás, pero lo hace bajo la enorme presión de ser la primera en la clase, o de lo contrario tendrá que regresar a su país y resignarse a llevar la vida que sus padres, en especial su madre, decida para ella. Kit por su parte es un joven de la nobleza británica pero, al menso al inicio de la serie, vive una vida despreocupada, sin embargo conforme avanza la trama, ambos personajes comienzan a madurar y a entender sus sentimientos.
One of the things I liked most about this anime, and what drew me to it from the moment I saw the trailer, is the simple fact that it's about art. One of my unfulfilled dreams has always been to learn to draw and paint. I love the incredible amount of detail in the anime. Of course, when it's about art, there have to be a lot of detail, not so much in the characters themselves, but in the landscapes, the buildings, and the interiors of the rooms, especially in the paintings and sculptures the characters work on. They all have different techniques, and it's really interesting to discover that. For example, Kit is known at the academy for using an unconventional but effective technique: he uses bread to blend the charcoal he draws with. Lily found this disgusting and strange at first (especially because he ate the piece of bread) , because she comes from a very traditional background although she was amazed at his speed in working .
Una de las cosas que más me gustó y me atrajo de este anime desde que vi el trailer es el simple hecho de que trata sobre arte, ya que uno de mis sueños frustrados siempre fue aprender a dibujar y pintar. Me gusta la gran cantidad de detalles que hay en el anime, desde luego, al tratar sobre arte deben haber muchos detalles, no tanto en los personajes, pero sí en los paisajes, en los edificios y en el interior de las habitaciones, pero en especial en las pinturas o esculturas en las que trabajan los personajes, además todos tienen técnicas diferentes y es muy interesante descubrir eso, por ejemplo Kit es conocido en la academia por manejar una técnica poco convencional pero efectiva, ya que usaba pan para difuminar el carboncillo con el que dibujaba, algo que a Lily le pareció asqueroso y extraño al inicio (en especial porque él se comió el trozo de pan), porque ella viene de una cultura muy arraigada a lo tradicional, aunque si se sintió maravillada ante la velocidad de él para trabajar.
But beyond the romance between the protagonists and the art, the series also addresses themes such as competitiveness, social pressures, personal growth, and the progress and new ideas that emerged with the turn of the century. Women begin to see themselves beyond the roles of mother and wife, the aristocracy begins to lose importance, minds become more open, and all of this is certainly reflected in the characters' art.
Pero más allá del romance entre los protagonistas o el arte, la serie también aborda temas como la competitividad, las imposiciones sociales, la superación personal y el progreso y als nuevas ideas que surgen con el cambio de siglo. La mujer comienza a visualizarse a si misma más allá del rol de madre y esposa, la aristocracia empieza a perder importancia, las mentes se vuelven más abiertas y desde luego todo esto se refleja en el arte de los personajes.
On the other hand, it's impossible not to associate the aesthetic of Saint Thomas Academy with Hogwarts from Harry Potter, but there's also one character in particular who brings back memories of the saga of the most famous wizard in film and literature. I'm referring to Professor Charles Brand; his personality reminds me too much of two Harry Potter characters, as he's as strict and fair as Minerva McGonagall but at the same time wise and instructive as Dumbledore. He's one of those characters with whom you know you'll have an enriching conversation and at the end of the day you'll gain valuable advice.
Por otra parte, es inevitable no asociar la estética de la academia Saint Thomas con Hogwarts, de Harry Potter, pero de la misma manera hay un personaje en particular que también me trae recuerdos de la saga del mago más famoso del cine y la literatura. Me refiero al profesor Charles Brand, su personalidad me recuerda demasiado a dos personajes de Harry Potter, ya que es tan estricto y justo como Minerva McGonagall pero al mismo tiempo sabio y aleccionador como Dumbledore, es de esos personajes con los que sabes que tendrás una charla enriquecedora y al final del día obtendrás valiosos consejos.
In terms of character development, I think the one who stood out the most was Catherine, who went from being an aristocratic, egocentric, selfish girl, willing to obey social precepts, to being a more empathetic young woman, valuing friendship above all else and getting to know herself so as not to repeat old patterns; she found the path of her own life, and Lily had a lot to do with that.
En cuanto a desarrollo de personajes, creo que quién más se destacó fue Catherine, que pasó de ser una chica aristócrata, egocéntrica, egoísta, dispuesta a obedecer preceptos sociales, a ser una joven más empática, a valorar la amistad por encima de todo y a conocerse a sí misma para no repetir viejos patrones, ella halló el rumbo de su propia vida, y en eso Lily tuvo mucho que ver.
