With this premise, I'm here to talk to you about what I consider to be one of the best animated films ever made, because it tells a beautiful story without the need for dialogue. I know there are many films of this style, and even short films, but very few achieve so much by using representative elements as a narrative device, and that was one of the things that most caught my attention about this film.
Con esta premisa les vengo a hablar de lo que es para mi una de las mejores películas de animación, y es que nos narra una historia hermosa sin la necesidad de diálogos. Se que hay varias películas de este estilo e incluso cortometrajes, pero muy pocas logran tanto empleando elementos representativos como recurso narrativo. y fue una de las cosas que más llamó mi atención de esta cinta.
The story is the most remarkable and beautiful aspect of the film. We have this castaway, angry and frustrated because the turtle won't let him leave the island and is damaging his raft. One afternoon, the turtle washes ashore, and he takes advantage of the situation to vent his frustration on it, beating it until it's battered and dying. He then sets out to rebuild the raft, but that night he's overcome with remorse upon seeing the dying turtle.
La historia es el eje central más destacable y lo más hermoso de la película. Tenemos a este naufrago enojado y frustrado porque la tortuga no lo deja abandonar la isla y daña su balsa. Una tarde la tortuga encalla en la arena y él aprovecha para desquitar su frustración con ella, jopeándola hasta dejarla maltratada y moribunda y se dirige a construir de nuevo la balsa, si embargo durante la noche no puede con su arrepentimiento al ver a la tortuga moribunda
He tries to turn her over, but she's too heavy, so he just pours seawater on her. She dies, or so he thinks. Then the turtle transforms into a girl, but she doesn't wake up. He gives her water and covers her from the sun and rain, but one day the girl doesn't appear; she's gone. He notices she's in the water, but she covers herself because she's naked. He gives her his shirt and walks away. Eventually, they become a couple and have a baby. They are happy together, but when the boy grows up, he realizes he's no longer happy on the island. He wants to know what lies beyond the horizon, so he says goodbye to his parents and leaves, leaving the couple to live out their old age until the man dies. Overwhelmed by grief, and after spending all day with him, she transforms back into a turtle and enters the sea.
Intenta voltearla pero pesa mucho, así que se limita a ponerle agua de mar pero finalmente ella fallece, o eso cree él, luego la tortuga se convierte en una chica, pero no despierta, así que él le da agua y la cubre del sol y la lluvia, sin embargo un día la chica no aparece, se fue. In my opinion, and from what I understood, it's all about a beautiful symbolism or parallel to life itself. We are born lost and without knowing where to go (the storm and the man's arrival on the island). We are guided by our parents, teachers, and close influences (the turtle returning him to the island after damaging his raft). We find that special being or beings who help us find meaning in life. We live our lives, but as we grow (whether chronologically or in our mental or philosophical evolutionary development), our curious minds crave more (represented by the son's desire to leave the island). We always need new stimuli, new plans, goals, dreams... we always want more, whether we achieve our objectives or not; human beings always need more.
Según mi opinión y lo que entendí, todo trata de una hermosa simbología o paralelismo de la vida en sí misma. Nacemos perdidos y sin saber a donde ir (la tormenta y la llegada del hombre a la isla) somos guiados por nuestros padres, maestros e influencias cercanas (la tortuga regresándolo a la isla al dañar su balsa) encontramos a ese ser o seres especiales que nos ayudan a encontrarle sentido a la vida, hacemos vida pero a medida que crecemos (bien sea de forma cronológica o en nuestro desarrollo evolutivo mental o filosófico) nuestra mente curiosa nos pide más (esto representado en los deseos de marcharse de la isla del hijo) necesitamos siempre tener nuevos estímulos, nuevos planes, metas, sueños... siempre queremos más, cumplamos o no nuestros objetivos, el ser humano siempre necesita más.
This part of the film (where the son leaves the island) also reflects when children “leave” the nest. It is a normal evolutionary process; children grow up absorbing what their parents teach them and then go on to make a life for themselves elsewhere. It is something that is seen in all species, and ours is no exception.
También esta parte de la película (donde el hijo deja la isla) es un reflejo a cuando los hijos "dejan" el nido. Es un proceso evolutivo normal, los hijos crecen absorviendo lo que sus padres les enseñan para posteriormente hacer vida en otro lugar. Es algo que se ve en todas las especies, en la nuestra no es la excepción.
Ultimately, human beings age and die. Although the ending of the film is sad, it also reflects reality. We would probably feel much better if the film ended with them living happily ever after following the departure of their son, or with him returning to visit them. However, the film chooses to give us a realistic ending. What happens when a loved one dies? What do we do? What should we do? Simple: move on and continue living for those who remain behind, like her, who decided to go back to being who she was (the red turtle) and move on.
Finalmente, el ser humano envejece y muere. El final de la película si bien es triste, también es un reflejo de la realidad, probablemente nos sentiríamos mucho mejor si la película solo terminara con ellos vivos, viviendo como novios de nuevo tras la partida de su hijo, o con una vuelta de este a visitarlos, sin embargo, la película elige darnos un final realista ¿Qué pasa con la muerte de un ser querido? ¿Qué hacemos? ¿Qué debemos hacer? sencillo, seguir adelante y seguir viviendo por los que se quedan en el camino, como ella que decidió volver a ser quien era (la tortuga roja) y seguir adelante.
The soundtrack... an auditory work of art. Each piece conveys so much; every feeling accompanying each scene is enigmatic and sublime. My favorite track, "Love in the Sky," is the film's main theme and has the power to move me deeply. It's a composition that carries so much emotion on its own; you can imagine how powerful it is when it accompanies certain scenes in the film. It has the unique ability to make you feel sad, but not an uncomfortable or unpleasant sadness, rather a beautiful kind of sadness, or what we commonly define as "sensitivity."
El Sontrack... una obra de arte auditiva, cada una de las piezas transmite demasiado, cada sentimiento que acompaña cada escena es enigmático y sublime. Mi tema favorita (Love in the sky) es el principal de la película y tiene la particularidad de ponerme sensible, es una composición que tiene mucho sentimiento impreso por sí sola, ya imaginarán cuando acompaña ciertas escenas de la película. Tiene la particularidad de hacerte sentir triste, pero no una tristeza incómoda o mala, sino un tipo de tristeza hermosa, o lo que definimos comúnmente como "sensibilidad"

Es de las pocas películas del Studio Ghibli que me faltan por ver. Los films sin diálogos en lo personal me llaman la atención porque la interpretación de las cosas dependen enteramente de cada quien entonces es muy cool como cada persona puede llegar a ver una película distinta. Ya me tocará verla.
Oh que hermosa historia, si la habia escuchado esta de studio ghilbli, pero no la he logrado ver. Se nota que, aun sin dialogo, logra transmitir mucho. 😊
