Zom 100 Bucket List of the Dead [ESP/ENG] Review
Hey everyone! How are you? Today I want to talk to you about a very unique anime, Zom: 100 Bucket List of the Dead. It tells the story of Akira Tendo, what in Japan is known as a salaryman, an office worker. However, he's very tired of the routine, especially his boss who mistreats him and the long workdays with unpaid overtime. In fact, his life was so monotonous and routine that he barely noticed the city and the country being plunged into a zombie apocalypse. And when he did, contrary to what anyone might have thought, he was very happy because the zombies and the chaos of the city gave him the freedom that his hectic work life had taken away.
¡Hola, gente de internet! ¿Cómo están? Hoy quiero hablarles de un anime muy particular, se trata de Zom 100 Bucket List of the Dead, el cuál nos cuenta sobre Akira Tendo, quien es lo que en Japón se conoce como un Salary Man, osea un trabajador de oficina, sin embargo está muy cansado de la rutina y en especial de su jefe que lo maltrata y de las largas jornadas laborales con horas extras no reconocidas, de hecho su vida era tan monótona y rutinaria que casi no advirtió que la cuidad y el pais quedó sumido en un apocalipsis zombie, y cuando lo hizo, contrario a lo que cualquiera pudo pensar, se puso muy feliz ya que los zombies y el caos de la ciudad le otorgaban la libertad que su agitada vida laboral le quitó.
It's a story that anyone can relate to in some way these days, right? Almost all of us have hectic work lives, long hours, and very little free time. However, in Japan, due to cultural and social factors, this is even more intense (of course, I'm speaking generally). Obviously, everyone's reality is different, and there may be people with idyllic jobs, high salaries, and plenty of free time, but salarymen are generally known for being exploited at work, and it's even one of the leading causes of suicide in Japan, which explains the protagonist's sense of freedom upon learning that he no longer has to go to work.
Es una historia con la que cualquier se puede identificar actualmente de alguna manera, ¿cierto? Casi todos tenemos vidas laborales agitadas, muchas horas de trabajo y muy poco tiempo libre, sin embargo en Japón, por temas culturales y sociales esto es aún más intenso (claro, lo digo en términos generales) porque obviamente la realidad de cada quién es diferente y quizá hayan personas con trabajos idílicos, sueldos elevados y mucho tiempo libre, pero normalmente los Salary Man se conocen por ser explotados laboralmente, e incluso es una de las razones de suicidio en la nación nipona, algo que explica la sensación de libertad del protagonista al saber que ya no tendrá que ir a trabajar.
Another curious and striking point is the list of one hundred things Tendo makes upon learning he'll have plenty of free time. If we analyze it from a realistic perspective, working hard probably means more money (I say probably because overtime isn't always recognized), but there's hardly any free time to enjoy that money. So it all boils down to this: you either have time or you have money. However, in a zombie apocalypse, this isn't a problem for Tendo because he's presented with a wide range of possibilities. Everything is at his disposal, and he learns to live each day to the fullest and appreciate the colors (something very important in the anime's art style).
Otro punto curioso y que llama la atención, es la lista de cien cosas por hacer que Tendo realiza al saber que tendrá tiempo libre de sobra, y es que si lo analizamos desde un punto de vista realista, si trabajamos mucho probablemente tengamos más dinero (digo probablemente porque no siempre se reconocen las horas extras) pero casi no hay tiempo libre para disfrutar ese dinero, así que todo se resume a esto: o tienes tiempo o tienes dinero, sin embargo en un apocalipsis zombie esto no representa un problema para Tendo porque ante él se presenta un abanico de posibilidades, todo está a su disposición y aprende a vivir el día a día y a disfrutar de los colores (algo muy importante en el apartado artístico del anime)
All the characters are very diverse and contribute something different to the plot, but two of the most important, and those who definitely play a significant role in the protagonist's journey of self-improvement, are Gonzou Kosugi and Shizuka Mikazuki. Gonzou is Tendo's tyrannical boss who, after the apocalypse, manages to maintain his reign of terror, this time focused on survival. His method is to "provide a service" so that those who "benefit" then have to work for him in return. In this way, Tendo finds himself entangled once again in his macabre game, and his personality undergoes a complete transformation, returning him to his starting point (gray, withdrawn, and depressed). However, Shizuka plays a crucial role by reminding him who he truly is and what he is worth. This re-encounter with tyranny and the abuse of power, along with Shizuka's motivation, allows Tendo to take back control of his life.
Todos los personajes son muy variados y aportan algo diferente a la trama, pero uno de los más importantes y que definitivamente representan algo importante en el camino hacia la superación personal del protagonista son Gonzou Kosugi y Shizuka Mikazuki. Gonzou es el jefe tirano de Tendo quien luego del apocalipsis se las arregla para continuar su imperio del terror, en esta ocasión enfocado a la supervivencia, su método es "prestar un servicio" para que luego los "beneficiados" tengan que trabajar para él en retribución, de esta manera Tendo se ve envuelto nuevamente en su juego macabro y su personalidad da un giro de 360 grados, ya que vuelve al punto de partida (gris, reservado y depresivo) sin embargo Shizuka juega un papel importante al recordarle quién es él en realidad y cuanto vale. De esta manera ese reencuentro con la tiranía y el abuso de poder, así como la motivación de Shizuke hacen que Tendo vuelva a tomar las riendas de su vida.
I personally believe that zombies are an analogy that serves to illustrate how people feel trapped in routine, in repetitive and unproductive habits where we romanticize exploitation and competitiveness, trying to pursue unattainable productivity metrics just to prove to society that we are "capable" and "successful" so that we are not labeled "failures," but in reality we might be feeling empty inside and very unhappy. For this reason, ironically, within a real zombie apocalypse, Tendo evolves and goes from being a "social zombie" to a free human being, capable of doing what he wants when he wants, of following his own purposes and not those of a boss or a company that does not value him at all.
Yo creo particularmente que los zombies son una analogía que sirve para ilustrar la manera en que se sienten las personas atrapadas en la rutina, en hábitos repetitivos y poco constructivos donde romantizamos la explotación y la competitividad, para tratar de perseguir métricas de productividad inalcanzables solo para demostrar a la sociedad que somos "capaces" y "exitosos" con el objetivo de que no nos pongan la etiqueta de "Fracasado" pero en realidad podríamos estar sintiéndonos vacíos por dentro y muy infelices, por esta razón, irónicamente dentro de un verdadero apocalipsis zombie Tendo evoluciona y pasa de ser un "Zombie social" a un ser humano libre, capaz de hacer lo que desee cuando desee, de seguir sus propios propósitos y no los de un jefe o una empresa que no lo valora en lo absoluto.
