Valiendo Madres Series Review [ENG-ESP]

Today, Sunday, which is Mother’s Day in my country and in others such as Colombia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Puerto Rico and the United States, I would like to tell you about a comedy series that, although it has the word “mothers” in its name, does not talk exclusively about motherhood, but refers to the Mexican expression ”valer madre”, which is used in various life situations in an informal way to indicate that something is unimportant.

Hoy domingo, que se celebra el Día de la Madre en mi país y en otros como Colombia, Chile, Perú, Ecuador, Puerto Rico y Estados Unidos, me gustaría comentarles sobre una serie de comedia que, aunque en su nombre tiene la palabra “madres”, no es que hable sobre la maternidad exclusivamente, sino que se refiere a la expresión mexicana ”valer madre”, que se usa en varias situaciones de la vida de manera informal para indicar que algo no tiene importancia.

We meet four women who become friends during the parent-child camp organized by the school where their children study. The four of them have different personalities and marital lives, which would become the central theme of this production; we see how they unite in a solid friendship thanks to the feeling of solidarity among women.

Paloma begins to suspect that her husband is unfaithful after a dildo in the shape of a unicorn’s horn appears among her son’s birthday presents. Paloma is an intense woman who will not rest until she finds out who brought the sex toy to her house and with what intention, and even more so after receiving messages on her cell phone where the fact is attributed to her husband’s mistress.

The weekend at the camp turns into a hunt to find out what her husband is hiding, discarding among all the mothers of her son’s classmates, starting with those who will become her allies in the search.

Nos encontramos a cuatro mujeres que se hacen amigas durante el campamento de padres e hijos organizado por el colegio donde estudian sus hijos. Las cuatro con personalidades y vida marital diferentes, que vendría siendo el tema central de esta producción; vemos como se unen en una amistad sólida gracias al sentimiento de solidaridad entre mujeres.
Paloma empieza a sospechar que su esposo le es infiel luego de que en su casa apareciera entre los regalos de cumpleaños de su hijo un dildo en forma de cuerno de unicornio. Paloma es una mujer intensa que no descansará hasta saber quién llevó el juguete sexual hasta su casa y con qué intención, y más después de recibir en su teléfono celular mensajes donde se atribuye el hecho a la amante de su esposo.
El fin de semana en el campamento se convierte en una casería para descubrir lo que esconde su esposo, descartando entre todas las madres de los compañeros de estudio de su hijo, empezando por las que se convertirán en sus aliadas en la búsqueda.

The series is very funny, as it not only presents everyday moments that can be awkward and funny, but also offers a glimpse into the lives of various couples. Through these stories, it explores those little things that are often hard to talk about, but are an integral part of marital life. While living as a couple can be challenging, the series approaches these situations with humor and approachability. As women, when we watch this type of series, we surely feel identified with some of the situations; it does not have to be only with one of the couples, but with the situations they go through.

The series deals with different problems in couples. We have couples where overwork makes one of the two feel abandoned and end up committing adultery. Others, where the short sexual vision of the man towards his wife makes him believe that he should only make love to her in the classic way and to procreate babies, not for her pleasure, causing a dissatisfaction that translates into lovelessness, as some studies say that 60% of a couple’s life is the sexual part. Finally, there are couples where the above mentioned mistakes do not exist, but by not letting go of the past, they lose the chance to be happy with what they have in the present.

La serie resulta muy divertida, ya que no solo presenta momentos cotidianos que pueden tornarse incómodos y graciosos, sino que también nos ofrece un vistazo a la vida de diversas parejas. A través de estas historias, se exploran esas pequeñas cosas que a menudo nos cuesta conversar, pero que son parte integral de la vida marital. Si bien vivir en pareja puede ser difícil, la serie aborda estas situaciones con humor. Como mujer, cuando vemos este tipo de series, seguramente nos sentimos identificadas con algunas de las situaciones; no tiene que ser únicamente con una de las parejas, sino con las situaciones por las que atraviesan.
La serie aborda diversas problemáticas en las parejas. Tenemos parejas en las que el trabajo excesivo hace que uno de los dos se sienta abandonado y termine cometiendo adulterio. Otras, donde la corta visión sexual del hombre hacía su esposa le hace cree que solo debe hacerle el amor de la manera clásica y para procrear bebés, no para el placer de ella, ocasionando una insatisfacción que se traduce en desamor, ya que dicen algunos estudios que el 60% de la vida de una pareja es la parte sexual. Finalmente, parejas donde no existen los errores anteriormente mencionados, pero al no dejar ir el pasado, se pierde de ser feliz con lo que se tiene en el presente.

With only seven half-hour episodes, this series is quickly enjoyable. Its agile and steady pace keeps the viewer hooked, avoiding any sense of monotony. In addition to being entertaining, each story offers a reflection on personal growth and couple dynamics. In the end, the characters learn from their mistakes, discover themselves and understand what they deserve, identifying their faults and what brings them happiness. In short, a humorous proposal that reflects life itself.

Con tan solo siete episodios de media hora, esta serie se disfruta rápidamente. Su ritmo ágil y constante mantiene al espectador enganchado, evitando cualquier sensación de monotonía. Además de ser entretenida, cada historia ofrece una reflexión sobre el crecimiento personal y la dinámica de pareja. Al final, los personajes aprenden de sus errores, se descubren a sí mismos y comprenden qué merecen, identificando sus fallas y aquello que les brinda felicidad. En definitiva, una propuesta jocosa que refleja la vida misma.
