Saltburn - Not for The Faint Hearted.

Being a proud Irish man I like to keep tabs on what the Irish actors are doing such as Cillian Murphy and a young man called Barry Keoghan who the whole of Ireland is rooting for. Barry was nominated for an Oscar last year in the Banshee of Inisherin for best supporting actor but this year he is back and he will for sure be nominated for best Actor. His most recent film Saltburn is taking the world by storm and Tik Tok is awash with videos about it. I was going to watch it but I watched it sooner rather than later to see what all the fuss was about.

There are 4 scenes in particular that has the world talking.

  1. Drinkng the cummy bathwater scene. It found this particualrly disgusting myself.
  2. The Rainbow Kiss Scene. Wasn't that phased by this for some reason.
  3. Humping a Grave: A bit over the top and not in the script. Barry just went for it.
  4. The naked Dance. Fair play to Barry for doing a dance with his willy jangling around.

Pretty much the happenings of an average @meesterboom post on Hive. He will love this film by the way!

By he end of it I was open mouthed at the film and it instantly became a cult classic for me. Up there with Withnail and I for just pure madness.

The film starts off in Oxford college where Oliver played by Barry Keoghan has a scholarship for. He is not popular and he sets about getting in with the popular crowd especially with a boy called Felix who has everything going for him. Felix has the looks and the money and everybody loves Felix so Barry sets about making friends with him. Felix has "Fuck You" money and is a part of the stiff upper lip British old money establishment. A class that few can get near. Their estate is called Saltburn which is the name of the film and without ruining everything for you , Oliver goes to stay in Saltburn for the summer and the film goes from there.

I found the soundtrack amazing as the film is set in 2006 and this is when I was having a great time in my 20's in life so I could relate to the whole university vibe. I think the soundtrack itself is up there with the likes of Trainspotting, that's how good it is. The song choice is up there with a Tarentino film. At the moment Sophie Ellis Baxter is having a revival with the song "Murder on the Dancefloor" as this is what Oliver dances to close to the end of the film. Also a song coming back is Mason - Perfect which is a lively dance song from the 90's. For me the song by Bloc Party - "This Modern Love" really had me loving this film.

Away from the 4 areas that left my mouth ajar, the film is a must watch and it will soon become a classic. But I would not , I repeat , would not be watching it with the parents. My father was on about it the other day and I gave him the wide birth.

The cast in the film was brilliant . Felix is played by Jacob Elordi of Entourage fame. His mother Elspeth is a scream. She is played by Rosalind Pyke. Carey Mulligan plays the troubled friend of the family and Richard E Grant play the aristocrat of the estate. They all have their own quirks and the film brings the ways of the upper class to light during the film which is funny as well. I mention funny alot but the film does not aim to be funny. It does it in a very dark way. The ending is just genius so much so that I may watch it for a second time and I do not say this about many films,
Emerald Fennell directed this film. You may know her from playing pregnant Barbie. Also a little known fact is that Margot Robbie produced the film. (Not Pregnant Barbie).

There is only so much you can say about this film without ruining the whole film so I will stop at this. Watch the film and let me know what you think. This was me after it by the way. That was enough television for the weekend.

Yeah I've definitely had this movie in my radar. Didn't want to know too much before I watched so I kind of skimmed this.
But I kid you not, my daughter was playing Murder On the Dance floor when I started reading this. Got to be a sign lol

Don't worry I gave away nothing. Make sure she does not watch this . 🤣 🤣

avatar

Wow, so it's actually good then? I heard about the cummy bathwater and it gave me the boak but I didn't imagine it would actually be good!

avatar

It's an absolute classic. The last slurp of cummy bath water gave me the gawks. It was like slurping sound of getting the lumpy bit at the end of a hot chocolate. If he gets the Oscar it is for that slurp!

I feel ill. I feel dreadful ill!!! 🤣🤣

avatar

I know you are mad to watch it now you dirty bastard. hahaha.

avatar

No, I am sorry I couldn’t sit through to the end, it was too gross for me.

avatar

See @meesterboom , Unmissable.

avatar

Yes, as an English man myself we do have a similar sense of humor and sarcasm, but saltburn is too much.

Try beacon 23 so far the best AI sci-fi series i have come across.

avatar

oh sounds interesting. The new Fargo is good as well. Did you watch Slow Horses yet? Absolute gold.

avatar

Yeah, slow horses is great, can't wait for season four to come out.

yeah quite the film! did you catch the part where they are talking about doppelgangers or something at the kitchen table and you see someone walk by the window looking like Felix as Felix is sitting in the kitchen? I need to rewatch, but I think there was a ton of stuff for folks into conspiracy theories regarding elites tucked in this one

avatar

no I didn't see that actually haha. I must watch it again.

avatar

I watched this on Sunday, what a coincidence. Actually hubs put it on telly and I just watch whatever whilst I'm doing my own stuff, so I wasn't paying too much attention to it initially.

Oliver really gives me the creeps and then he got weird and weirder. I didn't think he'll walk away just like that, but boy, did that payoff in the end! btw, where was the rainbow kiss scene? I caught the others but not this one

avatar

Ah @livinguktaiwan you were missing out. He was with Felix's sister out in the garden grounds. And he said he was a "not of a vampire "

avatar

oh that scene! Where Farliegh ratted on him afterwards! Erh! That was gross 😣

avatar

Yeah that's the one. 😃😃😃

avatar

well now I have to see it. I was just looking to see what to add to my list next and although this sounds like it is going to be shockingly gross, I'm ok with that from time to time.
