The Missing Season 1 Really Disturbed Me As a New Parent.

Imagine you are with your 7 year old son the whole day by the pool on holiday. From all the playing around in the pool, he gets thirsty. Mum is at home waiting for you to get back but first we have to sort out the little man with a drink. You dry him off and yourself and make your way into the busy bar. There is a match on. Trying to get to the bar you leave go of your sons hand for a split second. You turn around and your son is gone. You shout his name and run around the pub to see where he is gone but he is not there. You look outside and check the pool area but nothing. Panic sets in... helpless. You ring the police. This is the start of the missing. 8 years later Tony goes back to the scene of the crime as he finds a lead in a photo from a parade. He has never given up and he will stop at nothing to find his son.

As a relatively new father I actually felt physically sick when I was watching this as it is just like something that I would do. Get the little man a drink at a bar. The father Tony Hughes is played by Northern Irish actor James Nesbitt who is every mans man so you can easily fit yourself into this situation. I'm heading on holidays soon and after watching the missing I will be watching our two like a bloody hawk. The whole series is gripping.

Our hero hot shot detective Julien Baptiste played by Tchéky Karyo is hot on the heels trying to find Ollie the little boy and the whole series revolves around past and present. The days after Ollie disappears and the present day.The first episode ends when tony sees something chilling on a wall of a basement. And from then on it is gripping.

I don't mind horror movies with chainsaws and lads in masks running around killing people. But a child going missing gives me the ultimate chills especially if the series puts you in the fathers shoes. The child's Emily played by Frances O Connor doesn't blame her husband but the strain on the marriage is evident and the couple drift apart mainly because Tony is solely concentrating on finding his son.

The series looks at the various leads the police have and one is a local sex offender called Vincent Bourg. Vincent who is doing everything to stop his "disease" is questioned whenever a child does go missing. He tries his best to change using medication but to no avail.

Myself and my wife stayed up to watch the final 3 episodes last night on Netflix. We just had to find out what really happened to poor little Olly who was only just beginning his life. We checked the children a bit more than usual over the last week as you don't know what you have until they are gone.
One split second and they are gone. I just can't imagine anyone living this life where a child goes missing.
I can just imagine what Gerry and Kane McGann must feel with the disappearance of their little girl Madeline from their apartment. And to make it worse , most people think they did it. An absolute nightmare situation.

Well I have to say if my child went missing I would go all law abiding citizen on it and leave no stone unturned. I'd be breaking out the finger nail torture kits. I'd probably end up getting murdered but the frustrations would be unbearable. You could feel the frustration during the series. Nearly a sense of panic the whole time. I really enjoyed this series even though it wasn't a happy subject. I enjoy the shows that really move me emotionally the most and this is definitely up there.
There is a second season which is nothing much to do with the first one. This is where a missing person shows up years later which is the opposite of the first scenario. I'm looking forward to this but I'm gonna have a break from it for a few weeks. Can't be dealing with another drama like this for a while.
