Jagobiao National High School, Grade 9, Emerald, was conducting a film showing at SM Consolacion Cebu entitled "Boy Scout Na Bayani."

It was announced last few days ago by our teacher-adviser that we will a weekend cinema experience by having a film showing at SM Consolacion, Cebu City. We paid the sum of 150 pesos each student for the said event. Sunday came, and we were so excited for it.

We the grade 9 students, ready to get inside the cinema mall for a film showing.

So yesterday, November 19, 2023, in the morning, I rode a "tura2x," a tri-wheeled motorbike. I got off to SM Consolacion by my parents. Some of my classmates were already there when I arrived, while others were just coming in.

Inside the mall, we were having fun prattling with my classmates until we reached the cinema stall. We handed our tickets then to the cinema officer and finally got in. Such an enormous place as I was mesmerized by the wide area as I glazed at the venue. Chairs were lined going up. Later, all of us were busy setting up our arrangements and settled in a few minutes before the film was played.

"SUMMARY OF THE FILM BOY SCOUT NA BAYANI"

It started with a young boy named Oscar M. Alcaraz in the 1970s whose dream was to become a soldier or a police officer in the future; thus, as a young boy, he had himself engaged in boy scouting in school. His mom warned him not to pursue his dream of becoming a nation's peace defender because of the numerous risks associated with being a soldier. She loved his son so much that she could not dare consent to his son's aspiration.

However, this boy was so determined to reach his dream despite the opposition of his mom. Thus, he became a boy scout in high school and enjoyed the thrills and challenges, and his most favorite part was unremittingly helping those in need. He found pleasure in offering his hand to the vulnerables and necessitous.

Oscar had pleasure in helping those in need.

Thus, when he had a part-time job as a fishpond worker, he gave a few coins to a pity classmate. As a matter of fact, his friends sometimes would not accede him being too kind, up until it reached a point where he had to sacrifice his own few entities, like food or money, for the sake of others. Nevertheless, he would calmly answer them, "Unsa diay boy scout diba always ready to help? Ako lang gibuhat unsay insakto ug akong responsibilidad." in English, "What it takes to be a boy scout? Isn't it to succor those needing help? I just did what is right, and act my responsibility."

His rescued friend was able to go through the sea and was brought to safety.

Moving forward, as the film kept rolling, there was one incident when he saved his older boy scout leader from drowning in the sea. He courageously dove into the water with all valor and unsnapping hope to rescue and bring him alive, with other rescuers had later, eventually reaching the camp leader up. Fortunately, the latter was spared death due to his selflessness.

Painfully, Oscar was drowned into the depths of the sea after he managed to save his friend, camp leader.

Tragically, on the other hand, Oscar did not make it to survive as his leg was entangled by a wild, tough knotted seaweed, preventing him from being freed from it. Rescuers followed him soon, but he was nowhere to be found until, after 24 hours of taking a shift searching for his body, they found him still with a leg tied up to a seaplant. Poor boy,😥 such a selfless act of a hero, ready to place himself in danger and even death in exchange of others liberty.

Going home, I had my heart torn into pieces😢 But I was being stunned and inspired by his bravery and desire to save people.

REALIZATION TAKE AWAYS

We are surrounded by uncaped heroes but are real. They surpass Batman and Robins, Darna, Superman, Spider-Man, and many other masked fiction characters because unlike movie superheroes, their remarkable acts genuinely unmasked before our presence. True to say, that real heroes have the heart and passion ready to dish out their lives for the sake of others.

Each and everyone can be a hero of their own CHOICE and MEANING. "CHOICE" in the sense that serving others is a personal decision to make and not based on other people's suggestions. But it is a condition of a heart to serve without biases and reservations. "MEANING" is when we fulfill our purpose of existence rather than being bouyant in the sea of waves and being tossed by it. We must purpose to do it, not because circumstances threw us to it.

Yes! Heroism is an act too rigid to acquire, but it has a valuable life impact that is too powerful to ignore and forget. Its influence exceeds more than a certificate of appreciation, a golden plaque to hoist up, or a torch to ablaze in fire.

May this article stir the spirit of heroism within us. Set a fiery passion to help others, even in the little things that we do, as long as they are heartily done according to our willingness (not forcible) and capacity to do so. How about giving your chair to an old woman on the bus? Escorting a younger people crossing in the pedestrian or even tendering a chump of brilliant advice to a depressed friend? Wherefore, our readiness to help others is the formula to heroism.

"It is me once again, @blessie31, reminding everyone that with God, our help has a huge impact to them who receives it through us who is always ready to do minor things with full heart."

My sincerest thanks to my fellow hives for dropping by. That's it for my weekend experience. See you around!
