Our bi-monthly PIZZA Movie Night 🍿🎬🎥🍕 is up for review once again. I love PIZZA movie nights (or early mornings in my time zone) and try my best to catch them. Unfortunately I fell asleep this time round 😴💤, but not to worry as I decided to watch it again on my own so I wouldn't "miss out" 🤣.

As always, Pizza Movie screenings will only screen PUBLIC DOMAIN movies. As PIZZA gains more crowds and visibility, we have to ensure that no laws are broken which would compromise the entire project. However, I wouldn't be too concerned as there're still lots of classics to enjoy, as we delve further back into movie history! 🍿🎬🎥🍕🍕🍕

Every weekend, PIZZA hosts a Movie Night for anyone interested to join in. Makes for a good bonding session or even a random movie to pick up if you're one of those who can't choose from the plethora of choices out there! 🤣

And the winner with the most VOTES for today's MOVIE NIGHT is...

No surprise once again here 😜. If there's a horror option, it's almost always the winner when put to the vote. That's unless @creodas rigs the vote like in the previous movie night 2 weeks ago and left us with no such option 😂. I love horror, and so does the majority of people in PIZZA! Birds of a feather flocking together perhaps? 🐦🐦🐦

Released in 1962, Carnival of Souls, is an American independent horror film produced and directed by Herk Harvey and written by John Clifford, and starring Candace Hilligoss. It was shot on a really small budget of just $33,000 and was Harvey's only feature film. Sadly for him, the film didn't gain much attention and his discouragement resulted in him never again producing another.

The film did gain cult status eventually from the 1980s and was a regular screening during film and Halloween festivals. It has also had a wide-ranging influence on numerous filmmakers, including David Lynch, George A. Romero, and Lucrecia Martel, all of them great horror directors in their own right.

The movie starts off with Mary and her 2 girlfriends getting into a car race with 2 other guys (not the smartest thing to do in my opinion 🙄). And unsurprisingly, it doesn't go well of course, resulting in the girls' car plunging off a bridge into the water. While the police and a search party start dredging the water to find their remains, Mary miraculously walks out of the river unscathed and with no idea how she managed to survive the accident.

Some time later, Mary moves to Salt Lake City, Utah, for her new job as an organ player. During her trip there, she encounters a ghoulish looking man (henceforth known as "The Man") in the middle of the road.

Upon reaching her destination and settling down in a room in town, she heads off to the church where she plays the organ for her new employer, the Minister. The Minister then offers to take Mary out for a drive to a pavilion by the lake where she is told that it is forbidden to enter.

Mary experiences episodes where she seems to be invisible to the rest of the world. When The Man appears to her in a park, she escapes and runs into Dr. Samuels who tries to help her in his office despite not being a psychiatrist.

Later on, whilst playing in the church, she drifts off into a trance and starts playing an eerie haunting tune instead of hymns. In her vision, she also sees a group of ghoulish zombie-like people who look similar to "The Man" dancing in a ballroom of the pavilion. Broken from her trance by The Minister who interrupts her playing, she is then forced to resign from her new job.

Being driven mad by her episodes of being seemingly invisible to and ignored by the world, she eventually heads back to the pavilion where she sees a ghoulish version of herself dancing with The Man. Shocked and terrified, she screams and runs off with all of them in pursuit. The chase ends at the beach where she collapses as the ghouls close in around her. Doctor Samuels, The Minister and the police go in search of Mary only to find nothing but a whole bunch of footprints on the beach.

The scene then switches back to Kansas where the car accident originally occurred. The search party finally recovers the car and pulls it out of the lake. There, it is revealed that all 3 girls died in the crash including Mary who has been dead all along. PLOT TWIST! 😁

🎭All Good Things Must Come to an End🎭

I can see why this movie ended up being a cult classic. It might not have a big budget or any great special effects, but the plot and use of music made up for all of that.
