🏰 Evening walk and a touch of cinema in Vršac 🏰 Večernja šetnja i filmski momenat u Vršcu

During an evening walk, I stopped in front of the magnificent St. Gerhard Cathedral. Its silhouette dominates the town, just like the Vršac Tower on the hill. But what fascinates me most is that behind these walls lies history, art, and even a film story.

Tokom večernje šetnje zastao sam ispred veličanstvene katedrale Svetog Gerharda. Njena silueta dominira gradom, baš kao i Vršačka kula na bregu. Ali ono što je posebno fascinantno jeste da se iza ovih zidova krije istorija, umetnost, pa čak i filmska priča.

⛪ Symbol of the city

The cathedral was built between 1860 and 1863 in Neo-Gothic style, designed by architect Franz Brandeisz. It is 61 meters long, with a tower rising 63 meters high. Although it has never been the seat of a bishopric, people have always called it a “cathedral” because of its impressive size.
Inside, it treasures works of the Viennese school: the main altar painted by Peter Johann Geiger in 1863, a side altar by Karl Gucz in 1869, as well as stained glass and sculptures that give the church its special light and warmth. The famous 1913 organ, with more than 2,800 pipes, is a true musical masterpiece.

Katedrala je podignuta između 1860. i 1863. godine u neogotičkom stilu, po planu arhitekte Franca Brandajsa. Dugačka je 61 metar, a toranj se uzdiže čak 63 metra. Iako nikada nije bila sedište biskupije, svojom impozantnošću odavno je zaslužila naziv “katedrala”.

Unutrašnjost krase dela bečke umetničke škole: oltar Petra-Johana Gajgera iz 1863, sporedni oltar Karla Guča iz 1869, vitraži i skulpture koji crkvi daju posebnu svetlost. Posebno mesto zauzimaju i čuvene orgulje iz 1913. godine sa preko 2.800 cevi — pravi muzički dragulj.

🎬 A cinematic curiosity

In 2022, exorcism scenes for the horror movie "True Hunting" were filmed here, produced by American filmmaker Andrew Fefer. A part of world horror cinema is forever linked with this place.

Baš u ovoj crkvi su 2022. godine snimane scene egzorcizma za horor film američkog producenta Andrew Fefera. Deo svetske horor priče zauvek je ostao vezan za naš grad.
