Nintendo is teasing that a new 3D Mario game could be coming soon, but we'll have to wait and see.

Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser addressed player demands for a new Mario game during a recent interview with CNN , and while he didn't promise a new Super Mario Odyssey sequel, it doesn't sound like we'll have to wait long for it.

"Stay tuned for more," Bowser said. "As you know, we have a large catalog, a long list of intellectual properties that I'm sure will be coming to the platform."

The last mainline Mario game arrived in October 2017, just a few months after the original Switch launched. That means it's been almost eight years since the last major Mario game, and while something like Donkey Kong Bananza might help fill the gap in the meantime, it's not the Super Mario Odyssey 2 announcement many were hoping to see.
