This is getting ridiculous!

I was a bit surprised this morning when I woke up to find a text message from my father in law. He was asking me if the Michigan/Michigan State basketball game was available to watch on TV. Believe it or not, I had totally forgotten they were playing last night, and to make matters worse, I was dead asleep when he sent the text to me.

I had been on my phone at 8:15 while I was lying in bed. I actually dropped the phone on my head because I fell asleep with it in my hand reading the recent crypto news stories.

I plugged it in at 8:30 and proceeded to fall into a deep sleep. Turns out he had sent me the text at 8:45. He missed me by 15 minutes.

Not that it mattered too much anyway. From what I can tell, the game last night was only available on the Peacock Network streaming service, and that leads me to the topic of today's post.

It's getting more and more ridiculous the number of sporting events that are getting broadcast on these exclusive streaming networks. It's bad enough if you want to be able to watch Thursday Night Football you need to have Amazon Prime (which we do), but now you have to worry about basketball games being shown on dedicated services?

What's next? A streaming only Superbowl? Olympic Games?

If you are a true sports fan, by the time you are done, you are going to be subscribed to seven different services to the tune of over a thousand dollars a year. That NFL Redzone package doesn't look so bad now does it?

I have to admit, I was pretty disappointed to see college basketball do us dirty like that. Especially with such a highly watched game. Even though MSU and U of M aren't top tier basketball programs this year (I don't think either of them are even ranked), it's still a bit rivalry for people in the state.

Throwing it to some third party streaming service is just a trash move in my opinion.

I don't know, maybe I am over reacting, but I have a feeling if they aren't careful, there is going to be a breaking point like there was with the cable companies. People are going to say "enough!" and do whatever comes next after cutting the cord.

Perhaps we all just go back to reading books all the time and listening to the radio. I don't know.

It's going to be something tough and it needs to happen soon, because at this pace, I either need to stop caring about sports all together, or get a second job!

Of course this can happen because some sports are also shown on TV. In which you just need to search the TV channel and the presentation will come.

I recently read somewhere that almost all of the streaming services are losing millions per year and a consolidation is bound to happen soon. When there was only a couple of them I think most people were fine with it but I agree, it's getting absurd the amount of things that you have to be subscribed to. They have basically just returned us to overpriced cable again

Exactly! I'd be more than happy to see some kind of consolidation happening. We have already seen it a bit with the Hulu/Disney/ESPN bundle, but there needs to be a larger house cleaning. All of these networks thinking they should start their own streaming service was bound to turn out bad for everyone!
