Family Pack (2024)

Once more, I let the tides lead me to an unfamiliar movie with the same story line, plot mostly, all about the werewolves. For starters, I will give them credit because they did well on the plot, but that’s about all that appealed to me. That and the humour.

Family Pack is a French adventure and fantasy thriller directed by François Uzan based on the card game, “The Werewolves of Millers Hollow”. It is about a modern family who find themselves thrust into a game and must complete it to be able to leave. Just like Jumanji. If you liked Jumanji, you might like this one too.

There were so many inconsistencies with this movie but the plot was good nonetheless. It was so light hearted and filled with humour (sometimes dark) and these made the film quite the catch. I loved the slight thrill I got when something I did not see coming just happens.

Apart from the humour, I’d say I liked the actors. There weren’t many displays of affection and emotion, not with them trying to live in the medieval times, but there was just enough to see the powers of these actors on display. There were moments that required silent communication, not between the characters but from actors to the audience. One of those moments happened to be at the end, and maybe I am exaggerating it but I felt the pain of Marie as she tried to save her daughter, Louise.

One other thing I liked so much was how well they did incorporating humour alongside the archaic times. That in itself was dark, and while it did not send me tumbling over with laughter, it did make me chuckle more often than I expected. The themes employed from family dynamics to generational hazards (a good example is Clara and her many social media followers) flowed well with this movie filled with fun.

I had things I did not like as well. For example, the fast scenes incorporating little action did not feel well thought out. It felt chaotic, if anything, and underwhelming. But hey, it is a fantasy adventure rather than action thrill. Still, I prefer Jumanji (if we are going to compare). This movie is a 6/10 for me. Like I said, there were lots of inconsistencies but overall, it was a happy ending and it was good. Very laidback and filled with lighthearted fun.

There's no perfect movie. Thanks for sharing.

This seems like a movie I’ll enjoy when I don’t have any other movie to watch, hehe.

6/10 is still a pass mark and it’s definitely going to be worth giving a try.
