Is Comedy Dead or Just Going Alternative?

A new movie is coming out from the Daily Wire called Lady Ballers and it looks like a full on piss-take of the Trans Women in Sports trend that we have seen emerge in recent years. I’m a bit reluctant to wade into Culture Wars stuff because frankly I find it pretty tiresome and there are plenty of others fighting each other on the internet about it - they don't need me joining in. However I watched the trailer for this movie and it looks genuinely funny.

My wife and I have always enjoyed a bit of comedy. We like going to stand up shows and have been trawling through the streaming services for years giving anything a go which looks like it might be remotely funny. For some time I’ve considered the reality that we’ve scraped the bottom of the barrel and its become pretty hard to find genuinely funny content these days….so this movie might come as a bit of a breath of fresh air. Despite the fact that it might upset a few people….

Check out the Official Trailer above and make your own judgement. Sometimes with comedy movies they throw the best one liners into the Trailer and the rest of the movie is a bit of a yawn-fest, so hopefully that’s not the case here. I did get a couple of decent laughs out of the trailer so it’s definitely a movie that I would watch even at the risk of upsetting people by potentially enjoying it.

Above is another interesting clip by comic JP who has a bit of a commentary about the film and his thoughts about whether Comedy is dead. I’m not sure if I agree with him that people NEED to be offended but I certainly agree with making fun of some of the crazy things we see in Clown World and it's good to see some alternatives to Hollywood stepping up to make content. What do you think? Is this the sort of movie that you’d watch and enjoy?

I don’t know about Australia but here there are many good comedy places. I’ve seen about a dozen shows this year alone. I tried to get tickets to see Bill Burr in NYC but the ticket prices were ridiculous.

We did a couple of comedy shows when we were in NYC and your scene there is excellent generally.

We have a few shows here that are OK. Usually it's a tour or a festival that blows through places. I've found the comics to be a bit less inhibited by not having to pander to big corporate producers, but our bigger ones are still a bit PC.

I also like to see mostly comedy shows or movies. I think life is full of stress and tensions so we all required this kind of stuff to entertain ourselves and relaxed.

Comedy is not dead, lol because we still have a lot of people who are very good at it. Also, this movie is a kind that so would love to watch. Well, there’s no much laughter in the trailer, lol but I’d watch it for thirty minutes before concluding if I should keep watching it or not

Funny movies are what we all like to watch. Now there are some problems, so we will see once again all these movies will become famous all over the world.
