Midsommar - Review de películas para Halloween [ES-EN]

Hola hola mis Hivers cinéfilos, ya que estamos en temporada de Halloween 🎃 se me ocurrió hacer distintos review sobre películas de suspenso y terror para unirnos a la celebración.

En esta ocasión, les traigo nuevamente una película de A24.

Midsommar es un rodaje del 2019 producido en USA.

Sinópsis

Un estudiante universitario de Antropología, decide junto a sus compañeros de carrera, realizar un viaje a Suecia para hacer sus trabajos de etnografía.

Habían decidido ir a un festival que ocurre cada cierto tiempo en esa localidad, además, un amigo del grupo que pertenecía a la comunidad Sueca que querían estudiar, fue quien propuso la idea, ya que creyó que podía ser una oportunidad única para compartir con sus amigos y que ellos aprendieran un poco más de él.

Sin embargo, el personaje principal (Christian) no estaba atravesando por un buen momento con su pareja (Dani).

Dani era una chica que presentaba problemas familiares, su hermana con tendencia suicida era su mayor preocupación y, al mismo tiempo Dani era la preocupación de Christian, de modo que ambos sin saberlo estaban en una situación tensa que definiría para siempre el rumbo de su relación.

En medio de las complejidades que Dani atravesaba, Christian se estaba estancando en su carrera universitaria. De modo tal que el viaje a Suecia lo veían (al menos Dani) como una forma de superación de esos inconvenientes y fortalecerse como pareja.

No obstante, el mayor de los problemas que además presentaba el viaje era que los compañeros de Christian no querían a su novia involucrada en su investigación universitaria por cómo lo hacía estancar con sus problemas familiares.

Así pues, luego de que Christian lo trató con sus compañeros, emprendieron todos el viaje a Suecia con el mayor de los entusiasmos.

Argumento

Es bastante interesante como todo el rodaje trata un tema poco convencional que se denomina en Antropología "trabajo de campo" o etnografía.

Normalmente esta forma de análisis socio-cultural sucede bajo el formato de "participación objetivada" es decir, quien estudia a la comunidad en parte también participa de las actividades para tener una conciencia interpretativa no sólo desde la razón sino desde la propia experiencia.

No obstante, cuando uno se adentra en una comunidad de esta manera, no hay que perder el norte de la objetividad, ya que se puede ser parte de algo mucho mayor y estar inmerso puede conllevar en un gran riesgo, tal como se muestra en la película.

Desenlace

Luego de haber llegado a Suecia, estos estudiantes universitarios ansiosos por conocer todo lo que les rodeaba en un país nuevo, deciden al llegar ponerse en camino a donde debían llegar.

Llegando a la pequeña aldea en unos valles verdes suecos, ciertos miembros de la comunidad, reciben a los nuevos con Hongos para poder abrir su espíritu ante lo que verían y tener un poco más la conciencia abierta a nuevas cosas.

Esta especie de tribu amish-hippie sueca tiene desde tiempos antigüos su lugar ahí, por lo que la tradición ritualística es una de las cosas que más asombra.

Textos en un lenguaje propio, vestiduras, paisajes y simbolismo es lo que más impacta en cada escena, ya que muestra en primera persona todo lo que debería ver un Antropólogo en campo.

Desde la apreciación cultural, una de las cosas que más llama la atención de la comunidad donde están, además de toda su disciplina para llevar cabo las tareas del día, es su búsqueda por tener constantemente el estado de conciencia alterado.

Y junto a ello la voluntad del profesional de esta área, ya que si ellos toman un té de algún alucinógeno, el profesional debe estar dispuesto incluso a saber hasta dónde llegar.

El film va sacando su lado turbio cuando en cada Ritual, van desapareciendo cada vez más compañeros que previamente habían sido solicitados para trabajos en la aldea en la que se encontraban.

Ninguno se imaginó el terrorífico destino del otro ni de ellos mismos. Y mucho menos se convirtió en un viaje de superación de problemas de pareja o de tesis universitaria.

Synopsis

A university student of Anthropology, together with his fellow students, decides to take a trip to Sweden to do their ethnography work.

They had decided to go to a festival that occurs every so often in that location, in addition, a friend of the group who belonged to the Swedish community they wanted to study, was the one who proposed the idea, as he believed it could be a unique opportunity to share with his friends and that they could learn a little more from him.

However, the main character (Christian) was not going through a good time with his partner (Dani).

Dani was a girl with family problems, her suicidal sister was her biggest concern and at the same time Dani was Christian's concern, so they were both unknowingly in a tense situation that would forever define the course of their relationship.

In the midst of the complexities Dani was going through, Christian was stagnating in his college career. So the trip to Sweden was seen (at least by Dani) as a way to overcome those issues and strengthen their relationship as a couple.

However, the biggest problem the trip also presented was that Christian's colleagues didn't want his girlfriend involved in his university research because of how she was making him stagnate with his family problems.

So, after Christian addressed this with his colleagues, they all embarked on the trip to Sweden with the greatest of enthusiasm.

Plot

It is quite interesting how the whole filming deals with an unconventional topic that is called in Anthropology "fieldwork" or ethnography.

Normally this form of socio-cultural analysis happens under the format of "objectified participation" that is, whoever studies the community in part also participates in the activities in order to have an interpretative awareness not only from reason but from one's own experience.

However, when one enters a community in this way, one must not lose sight of objectivity, since one can be part of something much bigger and being immersed can entail a great risk, as shown in the film.

Denouement

After arriving in Sweden, these university students, eager to learn about everything around them in a new country, decide upon arrival to set out on the road to where they are supposed to go.

Arriving at the small village in the green Swedish valleys, certain members of the community welcome the newcomers with mushrooms in order to open their spirit to what they will see and to have their conscience open to new things.

This kind of Swedish amish-hippie tribe has had its place there since ancient times, so the ritualistic tradition is one of the most astonishing things.

Texts in a language of their own, costumes, landscapes and symbolism is what is most striking in each scene, as it shows in first person everything that an anthropologist should see in the field.

From a cultural point of view, one of the things that is most striking in the community where they are, in addition to all their discipline to carry out the tasks of the day, is their quest to constantly have an altered state of consciousness.

And along with this, the willingness of the professional in this area, since if they take a tea of some hallucinogen, the professional must be willing even to know how far to go.

The film takes its shady side when in each Ritual, more and more companions who had previously been requested to work in the village where they were.

None of them imagined the terrifying fate of each other or themselves. Much less did it become a journey of overcoming relationship problems or a university thesis.
