Men of honor (2000)

We all have our own story in this life, as if it were a movie in which we are directly involved in the script of our actions. But in certain circumstances, everything seems to lean toward a scenario in which true stormy winds blow, which, without necessarily resembling others, are still just as difficult to live through and, above all, to be able to move forward. Men of Honor is one of those movies that I always like to watch because it gives me the encouragement and strength I need when it seems like the world is simply against me, knowing that there are lives that, without being told, become fascinating experiences from which we can learn and grow at the same time.

While the main theme revolves around the damage that deep-rooted racism can cause in the life of a person and those around them, the harm that pride, prejudice, and arrogance can cause is also evident. Obviously, the focus is not on the negative aspects, but rather on the spirit of selfless struggle of a man who knows that things like dignity and honor go beyond skin color. He even teaches us a serious lesson about what we can achieve through our work and sacrifice, doing everything possible to get to where many believe you don't even deserve to try.

Life is not measured by ranks or hierarchies as if only a few are chosen to succeed in life. Although it may seem contradictory, the world makes you believe this while destroying any illusion that may fit into your life, even promoting a sad reality that for some is like a destiny from which you cannot escape. "Men of Honor" is not a destructive criticism but a wake-up call to humanity to leave behind any action or tendency that seeks to belittle the value that each person can develop through their goals. If there is a clear message in this film, it would be the phrase "Don't give up!" and see life as an opportunity to prove that human beings can be greater than our adversities.

Many are the wounds of those who wish to leave a special mark on life, and for that, any effort and sacrifice is well worth it. I admit that sometimes the best option is to throw in the towel and resign ourselves to failing in the attempt, but failure is not entirely our end as long as we have one day of life left to try again. From beginning to end, this film makes it clear that perseverance and hard work go hand in hand, especially when no one seems to believe in you, and those who truly appreciate and value you are the ones who will be there for you in good times to support you and in bad times to encourage you to keep going. Because even in the face of life's worst experiences, we can still influence someone else's life.

More than 25 years have passed, and from my point of view, it is a film that remains relevant today because of the powerful message it conveys, which is so necessary for what we experience every day and continues to affect us. Because whatever our battle may be, a spirit of struggle and sacrifice can never be broken until we achieve the success we set out to achieve.
