Troya: obsesión por la gloria eterna [Esp-Eng]

El orgullo de un guerrero a un grado superlativo, considerado como un semidiós destinado a una gloria que perduraría por toda la eternidad. Así es como se presenta Aquiles, un hombre de extraordinaria habilidad para pelear y con el áurea de un guerrero legendario que jamás se podría comparar a alguien más. Estas son tan solo algunas ideas y adjetivos que destacan el papel de un personaje que estuvo por encima de la historia de dos reinos y de una guerra en la que los reyes son simples espectadores de las hazañas de verdaderos soldados valientes capaces de morir por su país, o por su grandeza y convicción de jamás ser olvidados como lo fue el caso de Aquiles.

Quien diría que la ingenuidad de un hombre sería un simple cabo que desataría la mayor de todas las desgracias, y más cuando se pudo haber evitado desde un mismo principio a no ser por ese código familiar que Héctor sostuvo para proteger a su hermano sin saber hasta donde llegarían las fatales consecuencias. Confiar en tus muros y en tus mejores soldados puede ser un refugio seguro siempre y cuando no tengas enfrente a un hombre que se está forjando un nombre sin temer al combate ni a la muerte. Desde el primer enfrentamiento ya Aquiles deja claro que su propósito es hacerse una fama más grande de la que ya posee, y aunque viene en nombre de Grecia y su Rey lo cierto es que él solo piensa en su propia gloria, una que quedará grabada en los tesoros de la misma historia.

The pride of a warrior to the highest degree, considered a demigod destined for glory that would last for all eternity. This is how Achilles is presented, a man of extraordinary fighting ability and with the aura of a legendary warrior who could never be compared to anyone else. These are just a few ideas and adjectives that highlight the role of a character who stood above the history of two kingdoms and a war in which kings are mere spectators of the exploits of true brave soldiers capable of dying for their country, or for their greatness and conviction to never be forgotten, as was the case with Achilles.

Who would have thought that the naivety of one man would be the catalyst that would unleash the greatest of all misfortunes, especially when it could have been avoided from the very beginning if it weren't for the family code that Hector upheld to protect his brother, without knowing how far the fatal consequences would go. Trusting in your walls and your best soldiers can be a safe haven as long as you are not facing a man who is making a name for himself without fear of combat or death. From the first confrontation, Achilles makes it clear that his purpose is to make himself even more famous than he already is, and although he comes in the name of Greece and its king, the truth is that he only thinks of his own glory, one that will be engraved in the treasures of history itself.

Dos potencias mundiales con dos referentes en sus ejércitos, Héctor con Troya y Aquiles con Grecia nos muestran dos caras diferentes en cuanto a la guerra y el arte de luchar. Uno apegado a sus principios de soldado, mientras otro sostiene la filosofía de ser el guerrero más grande que pueda existir. Por eso la escena más épica de esta película precisamente gira en el enfrentamiento de estos dos guerreros. Algunos destacan el valor de Héctor al saber que luchaba con alguien muy superior, mientras otros cuestionan la osadía de un Aquiles para vengar la muerte de Patroclo. El desenlace no solo fue la muerte de Héctor, sino que también significó la debacle de una ciudad como Troya que acudía a la protección de sus inútiles dioses falsos como última esperanza.

No había espada, lanza ni flecha que pudiera causar daño a Aquiles, y ante cualquier estrategia el arma más efectiva fue la fragilidad de una mujer llamada Briseida. En la sutil figura de esta mujer sucumbió hasta el más grande deseo de Aquiles por su fama y gloria, algo que pudo haber quedado hasta allí de no ser por la muerte de Patroclo. Briseida se convirtió en ese punto vulnerable que Aquiles jamás había mostrado, porque se vió ante alguien que no sentía temor por él, y por lo tanto prefirió ceder a ese sentimiento tan profundo como lo es el amor. Briseida logró lo que nadie más pudo, una proeza que no se resalta por el fin que tuvo la vida de Aquiles: morir como una leyenda y no vivir como un simple mortal más.

Two world powers with two military leaders, Hector with Troy and Achilles with Greece, show us two different sides of war and the art of fighting. One is committed to his principles as a soldier, while the other upholds the philosophy of being the greatest warrior that could ever exist. That is why the most epic scene in this film revolves precisely around the confrontation between these two warriors. Some highlight Hector's courage in knowing that he was fighting someone far superior, while others question Achilles' audacity in avenging Patroclus' death. The outcome was not only Hector's death, but also the downfall of a city like Troy, which turned to the protection of its useless false gods as its last hope.

No sword, spear, or arrow could harm Achilles, and in the face of any strategy, the most effective weapon was the fragility of a woman named Briseis. In the subtle figure of this woman, even Achilles' greatest desire for fame and glory succumbed, something that might have remained there had it not been for the death of Patroclus. Briseis became the vulnerable spot that Achilles had never shown before, because he found himself before someone who felt no fear for him, and therefore he preferred to give in to that feeling as deep as love. Briseis achieved what no one else could, a feat that is not highlighted by the end of Achilles' life: to die as a legend and not live as just another mortal.

El honor en tiempos de guerra es quizás un elemento que pasa desapercibido pero le da más fuerza a la trama. El respeto de Aquiles ante el dolor de un Rey por su hijo, la forma en la que Héctor asumió la muerte de Patroclo y la misma pelea de Héctor contra Aquiles son escenas puntuales que le dan aún más peso a la historia, tanto que el mismo Aquiles reconoció que Héctor había sido el mejor guerrero al cual había enfrentado. También la lealtad se muestra en varios matices, demostrando que si no está bien enfocada los resultados pueden ser los peores. Troya apeló a los dioses y no al razonamiento de su mejor guerrero como lo fue Héctor, y por eso toda una ciudad ardió en la ignorancia de sus líderes. La filosofía también resalta en las conversaciones de Aquiles con Briseida, Patroclo, Héctor y hasta con el mismo Priamo con frases cargadas de mucha reflexión.

Los finales felices siempre van en otra dirección a la que apunta la grandeza de una leyenda, y este fue el caso de Aquiles. Más allá de que tan fiel ha sido esta película a la historia real, pienso que no deja de ser una excelente película. Quizás el tema principal gira precisamente en como un hombre puede ser capaz de sobresalir y estampar su propio nombre en la historia, dejando una huella de la cual se hablará por mucho tiempo y más. Una mujer puede destruir un reino, y también puede hacer tambalear al guerrero más grande y poderoso de todos los tiempos, logrando así dar rienda suelta a una maravillosa historia difícil de olvidar.

Honor in times of war is perhaps an element that goes unnoticed but gives the plot more strength. Achilles' respect for a king's grief over his son, the way Hector accepted Patroclus' death, and Hector's fight against Achilles are specific scenes that give even more weight to the story, so much so that Achilles himself acknowledged that Hector was the best warrior he had ever faced. Loyalty is also shown in various nuances, demonstrating that if it is not properly focused, the results can be disastrous. Troy appealed to the gods and not to the reasoning of its best warrior, Hector, and that is why an entire city burned in the ignorance of its leaders. Philosophy also stands out in Achilles' conversations with Briseis, Patroclus, Hector, and even Priam himself, with phrases laden with deep reflection.

Happy endings always go in a different direction than the greatness of a legend, and this was the case with Achilles. Regardless of how faithful this film has been to the real story, I think it is still an excellent film. Perhaps the main theme revolves precisely around how a man can be capable of excelling and stamping his own name on history, leaving a mark that will be talked about for a long time to come. A woman can destroy a kingdom, and she can also shake the greatest and most powerful warrior of all time, thus unleashing a wonderful story that is difficult to forget.
