hace algunos días asistí a un cumpleaños muy especial y quise hacer un obsequio que estuviese a la altura.

Aquí les cuento de qué trata y como lo fui creando artesanalmente. Espero les guste!

A few days ago I attended a very special birthday and I wanted to make a gift that was up to the task.

Here I tell you what it is about and how I created it by hand. I hope you like it!

Una de las razones por las que regresé a vivir a Buenos Aires fue porque necesitaba volver a rodearme de las personas a las que mas quiero en este mundo. la mayoría de ellos se encuentran en esta provincia, y con varios, el contacto se fue disminuyendo a lo largo del tiempo por la distancia, el poco tiempo para comunicarnos y los diferentes rumbos que fuimos tomando al afrontar una vida adulta.

Entre todos esos vínculos, se encuentra mi prima Tato, quien, por muchísimos años, fue mas que una prima, también fue como una hermana, una compañera y una muy buena amiga.

One of the reasons why I returned to live in Buenos Aires was because I needed to surround myself with the people I love the most in this world. Most of them are in this province, and with several, contact decreased over time due to the distance, the short time to communicate and the different directions we took when facing adult life.

Among all those links, there is my cousin Tato, who, for many years, was more than a cousin, she was also like a sister, a partner and a very good friend.

Con ella convivimos durante unos cuantos años en las edades de la adolescencia y compartimos cientos de recuerdos y experiencias que terminaron por formar un lazo muy especial entre ambos.
Por mas de que también tuvimos nuestras peleas (pues, como cada par de hermanos) siempre estuvimos el uno para el otro, apoyándonos y haciéndonos sentir esa calidez y cariño que tanto nos caracteriza.

Regresé a Buenos Aires hace poco menos de dos meses y quise retomar ese contacto que tanto extrañaba. No necesitamos mas que un llamado telefónico que duró horas, para ponernos al corriente de nuestras vidas y desde entonces no pasa una semana sin que nos hablemos para contarnos cada novedad o simplemente conversar por un rato.

We lived with her for a few years in our teens and shared hundreds of memories and experiences that ended up forming a very special bond between us. Even though we also had our fights (well, like every pair of brothers) we were always there for each other, supporting each other and making us feel that warmth and affection that characterizes us so much.

I returned to Buenos Aires a little less than two months ago and I wanted to resume that contact that I missed so much. We don't need more than a phone call that lasted hours, to catch up on our lives and since then not a week goes by without us talking to each other to tell each other new things or just chat for a while.

Nuestros momentos de compañía (aunque sea virtual) son las mañanas, mientras ella prepara todo lo que va a ser su día, y yo aquí, preparando contenido para hive. También le conté sobre esta hermosa plataforma, ya que es otra de las cosas que quería retomar hace tiempo, y no solo le gustó, sino que en seguido se creó un perfil para poder plasmar y compartir con todos nosotros sus conocimientos y experiencias con el arte en general (es muy talentosa para ello).

Faltaba poco para su cumpleaños y aproximadamente cuatro días antes de ello, me llamó por teléfono para decirme que le gustaría que yo asistiese, y que ella ya se había encargado de organizar todo para venir a buscarme a mi casa, ya que no vivimos muy cerca y sabe sobre mis problemas con salir a la calle y la ansiedad que me generan los transportes públicos. y ¿Cómo negarme a tan fabuloso plan?, claro que quise ir y compartir su gran día con ella. pero no quería llegar con las manos vacías.

Quería llevarle un obsequio especial hecho con mis propias manos y no me fue muy tardado descubrir qué pudiese gustarle mucho..

And how can I refuse such a fabulous plan? Of course I wanted to go and share her big day with her. but he did not want to arrive empty-handed.

I wanted to bring her a special gift made with my own hands and it didn't take me long to discover what she might like very much...

El día que hablamos sobre su festejo, ella me comentó que le gustaba mucho hacer sus fiestas con temáticas y que este año no estaba segura sobre qué tratarla, debido a que los años anteriores fueron sobre Moana (o Bahiana, según la adaptación en otros países). ama demasiado a esa pelicula.

En ese mismo instante ya supe que hacer. Nada mas representativo sobre Moana que su emblemático collar, el Corazón de Tefiti.

Tenia que aprovechar a mi nueva amiga, la resina epoxi, ideal para este tipo de manualidades. el problema es que cada aplicación de resina tarda 24 horas en secar para poder continuar con el trabajo, por lo que no tenia tiempo que perder, y ese mismo día comencé a trabajar en ello.

The day we talked about her celebration, she told me that she really liked to do her parties with themes and that this year she was not sure what to treat her about, because the previous years were about Moana (or Bahiana, depending on the adaptation in other countries ). He loves that movie too much.

At that moment I already knew what to do. Nothing more representative of Moana than her emblematic necklace, the Heart of Tefiti.

I had to take advantage of my new friend, epoxy resin, ideal for this type of craft. The problem is that each application of resin takes 24 hours to dry in order to continue with the work, so I didn't have time to lose, and that same day I started working on it.

Este collar (en la película), en realidad se trata de una concha de mar de color azul con una parte tallada con simbología maorí y dentro de ella contiene la preciada piedra de color verde llamada "el Corazón de Tefiti".

Como no contaba con mucho tiempo ni los materiales adecuados para realizar ese tipo de complejidad, cogí varias imágenes de la película como referencia y así recrear solo la concha de mar, pero con destellos en color verde como para representar también la piedra.

para comenzar, preparé la resina, la dividí en dos partes. pigmenté la parte de mas cantidad con color azul marino, y la otra parte con color verde esmeralda y vertí ambas en un molde de silicona con forma ovalada.

This necklace (in the movie) is actually a blue sea shell with a part carved with Maori symbols and inside it contains the precious green stone called "the Heart of Tefiti".

Since I didn't have a lot of time or the right materials to carry out this type of complexity, I took several images from the film as a reference and thus recreate only the sea shell, but with green flashes to also represent the stone.

to start, I prepared the resin, divided it into two parts. I pigmented the larger part with navy blue, and the other part with emerald green and poured both into an oval-shaped silicone mold.

Como no tenia tiempo que perder, durante el prolongado tiempo de secado de la resina, aproveche para realizar una masilla moldeable casera que es muy muy parecida a la porcelana fría y el acabado es fabuloso, de igual manera, idéntico a la masilla original.

aprovecho para dejarles ese tip:

Esta masilla casera lleva ingredientes que son de uso habitual en nuestras casas.

necesitamos maicena (almidón de maíz), aceite de bebé tipo Johnson (no tenia se ese, asique utilice aceite de girasol y dio el mismo resultado), cola blanca y un poquito de vaselina solida o crema de manos para aportarle suavidad y elasticidad a la masa.

las cantidades varían dependiendo de la cantidad de masilla que quieran preparar, pero eso lo pueden ir regulando ustedes integrando todo hasta obtener una consistencia como la de la foto. también, tal como la porcelana fría, esta masilla también puede conservarse lista para usar en cualquier momento, envolviéndola en una bolsa de plástico. el tiempo de secado completo es de aproximadamente 12 horas.

Since I had no time to lose, during the long drying time of the resin, I took the opportunity to make a homemade moldable putty that is very similar to cold porcelain and the finish is fabulous, likewise, identical to the original putty.

This homemade putty contains ingredients that are commonly used in our homes.

We need cornstarch (corn starch), Johnson-type baby oil (I didn't have that one, so I used sunflower oil and it gave the same result), white glue and a little solid vaseline or hand cream to provide softness and elasticity to the skin. mass.

the amounts vary depending on the amount of putty you want to prepare, but you can adjust that by integrating everything until you get a consistency like the one in the photo. Also, like cold porcelain, this putty can also be kept ready to use at any time by wrapping it in a plastic bag. full drying time is approximately 12 hours.

Secada la resina, proseguí a lijar toda la pieza hasta darle un aspecto tipo gema, mas redondeada. el lijado vuelve la pieza opaca, pero luego con una capa mas de resina vuelve a tener el efecto deseado.

Ya conforme con el lijado, continué aplicando la masilla casera en la parte superior de la gema, respetando la forma de las imágenes que tomé de referencia. y dejé secar durante 12 horas mas para poder comenzar a tallar los símbolos maoríes con la ayuda de un mini torno.

Luego pinté la masilla resaltando los símbolos con acrílico negro y por encima de ello, apliqué acrílico plateado con la ayuda de una esponja. una vez seco, le hice un pequeño agujero en la parte superior con un torno manual y le inserté un ganchito para que pudiese colgarse de una cadena o cordón.

Para finalizar el trabajo, bañé toda la pieza con una pequeña capa mas de resina, dejé secar otras 24 horas y listo!

Para la presentación, elegí la lata que había reciclado (que también compartí el proceso en otro post anterior), puse un trozo de algodón en el fondo y agregué unas cuantas perlas blancas y pequeñas gemas en color azul y verde.

Éste fue el resultado final. Espero les guste!

Once the resin was dry, I continued to sand the entire piece until it had a more rounded, gem-like appearance. sanding makes the piece opaque, but then with one more layer of resin it returns to have the desired effect.

Already satisfied with the sanding, I continued applying the homemade putty on top of the gem, respecting the shape of the images that I took as a reference. and I let it dry for 12 more hours to be able to start carving the Maori symbols with the help of a mini lathe.

Then I painted the putty highlighting the symbols with black acrylic and on top of it, I applied silver acrylic with the help of a sponge. once dry, I made a small hole in the upper part with a manual lathe and inserted a small hook so that it could be hung from a chain or cord.

To finish the job, I bathed the whole piece with a small layer of resin, let it dry for another 24 hours and that's it!

For the presentation, I chose the can that I had recycled (which I also shared the process in another previous post), I put a piece of cotton at the bottom and added a few white pearls and small blue and green gems.
