One of the best George Clooney films I've seen. When I remember George Clooney, I like to associate his name with this movie, in which he may have given his best performance of his career. On the surface, it's a comedy so basically it's a happy ending, and as I said starring George Clooney and seeing him on screen in itself he promised we'd have a good time, and that's what I got. But the film was more than that as well. The film directed by Alexander Payne (director of a movie about Schmidt starring Jack Nicholson - 2002) is a director who enjoys telling a story and knows how to specifically direct the male characters to show their feelings.

Interesting story

The events of this story take place in the state of Hawaii, and as a basic introduction to understanding the characters, it must be noted that the people of this state are very attached to their land, so we see Matt King (George Clooney), a descendant of one of the first families to own virgin lands in Hawaii, confused as he must He decides if he should sell large areas of virgin forests for tourism development. Meanwhile, he faces a personal crisis when his wife, Elizabeth (Patricia Hastie) is in an accident and hospitalized in a coma (Coma), the one who helps him with his work and is also primarily responsible for managing the household.

Matt King, who works in the Land Department, and because work takes all his time, is neglectful of his wife and two daughters, suddenly finds himself facing a fateful turn in life. His wife is now in a coma, and her will is to turn off life support. He must go home and try to exercise his powers as a father and spend more time with his two daughters, teenage Alexandra (Shailene Woodley) and younger Scotty (Amara Miller). On the other hand, because he owns a larger stake, he must decide the fate of the property of the King family, who have an urgent desire to close the deal and sell the land for millions of dollars.

So the movie is a mix of big business, sentimental, and familial. But Matt's life is further complicated when he discovers from an unexpected source that his wife has been having an affair, his daughters don't want to sell the land where childhood memories are held, and his cousin Hugh (Boo Bridges) is campaigning against him on behalf of the King to expedite the closing of the sale. Matt himself thought he wanted to sell but now he seems not sure of his will, the recent turmoil in his life and his loss of ties between his wife and two daughters may have been caused mainly by the loss of his connection to the land.

Impression

The film is touching and it is very difficult to act first because of the complexities in the plot, and secondly because it is based on the character of Matt King, who if we do not relate to him, we will not be associated with the story and the movie. Fortunately, director Alexander Payne, who is talented in putting his characters in front of personal or moral dilemmas, makes us feel the tremendous amount of pressure they are going through, care about them, and think with them.
