NOPE una película de terror muy rara // Film Review [ESP - ENG]

Ya todos conocemos la peculiar manera de hacer cine de terror de Jordan Peele, es innegable la astucia y la habilidad de construir un guion que nos deje intrigados, y que nos deje con ganas de volver a ver sus películas, aunque ya hayamos ido a leer las críticas y las explicaciones, hayamos visto varios videos de youtube con las curiosidades de la filmación y nos abandonemos a la aceptación de la premisa de la película, sin objetar la tecnología de "Huye" ni la lógica de "Nosotros". Con ¡Nope! esto es diferente, quizás porque nos cuesta más separarnos de algo que admitámoslo o no, está profundamente conectado con nosotros y vive dentro nuestro.

Filmaffinity no nos dice mucho de que nos vamos a encontrar en esta película:

Dos rancheros de un remoto pueblo del interior de California hacen un descubrimiento tan insólito como escalofriante.

Y esta ha sido la constante desde que se anunció esta película, de la que todavía estoy analizando si me gustó o no. Todo lo que se escribía sobre ¡Nope! era de un estilo de hermetismo que no solo no consiguió mermar las ganas que tenía de verla, sino que aumentó mis ganas y mis deseos de saber más, no solo por el buen nombre que ha ganado su director con producciones pasadas, es porque estas películas tuvieron guiones memorables y únicos que lo separan de cualquier cine de terror anterior.

Pero el hermetismo llegó hasta las palabras de amigos que comparten impresiones sobre películas en un grupo de cinéfilos al que estoy afiliada. Nadie tenía palabras para describir este film, y al verla entendí el por qué. Esta es una película inclasificable, es muchas cosas y a la vez no es ninguna.

Lo primero que tengo que admitir, es que no me asusté en lo absoluto, quizás algunas escenas con la sangre de personas al ser devastadas por un mono, pero en realidad lo que asusta de esta película no son sus escenas ni sus argumentos, lo que de verdad asusta es la facilidad con que las personas venden su alma por ganar la fama y el reconocimiento, me asustó el pensar en los padres que entregan a sus hijos, unos niños, al monstruo voraz de la fama y las famosas casas en Hollywood Hills, para que terminen siendo devorados y aniquilados por la industria.

El verdadero terror reside en nuestros deseos por alcanzar la fama a costa de todo, y peor, habiendo logrado causar un verdadero trauma a pesar de eso no descansar hasta volver a conseguir el preciado puesto perdido. Jorden Peele nos muestra con absoluta maestría lo cercanos que estamos de perder nuestra humanidad (ya sea por la muerte o la pérdida de la dignidad) con tal de obtener algunos dólares o aparecer aunque sea 15 minutos en el show de Oprah Winfrey.

La luminosidad de la película merece mención aparte, no estamos acostumbrados a mirar películas de terror a plena luz del día, yo aborrezco cuando no puedo apreciar en su totalidad la imagen del monstruo que asecha a los protagonistas. En cambio en NOPE, no solo nos lo muestra también tenemos impresionantes acercamientos que ayuda a esclarecer un poco con que nos estamos enfrentando. Y así decidimos si nos asustamos o no. El director primero juega al escondite con el monstruo y luego nos lo muestra en todo su esplender. Una jugada maestra.

La estética también hace lo suyo, los colores pasteles pretendiendo jugar al terror, el vestuario que no parece tener una época, sino que se muestra como la eclética selección de una moda sin tiempo que nos invita a pensar en una obra atemporal, juego que también ha utilizado es sus anteriores películas. Consiguiendo que nos identifiquemos con los personajes.

Aunque considero que los mejores actores del film fueron los caballos, no puedo dejar de mencionar la simpatía de Keke Palmer, con su chispa, sus bailes y su espontaneidad, una simpatía ensayada, pero tan real que incluso produce muchas sonrisas, en contraposición con su hermano en la película que parecía que la depresión había terminado con sus ganas de vivir.

Después de escribir esta reseña me doy cuenta que en realidad si me gustó mucho la película, tiene el encanto de la época de los 80's, pero con motos eléctricas y cámaras digitales de vigilancia de alta resolución. Así que si no la vieron todavía, están a tiempo.

NOPE a very weird horror movie // Film Review

We all already know Jordan Peele's peculiar way of making horror films, it is undeniable the astuteness and ability to build a script that leaves us intrigued, and that leaves us wanting to see his films again, even if we have already gone to read the reviews and explanations, we have seen several youtube videos with the curiosities of the filming and we abandon ourselves to the acceptance of the premise of the film, without objecting to the technology of "Flee" or the logic of "Us". With Nope! this is different, perhaps because it is harder for us to separate ourselves from something that, whether we admit it or not, is deeply connected to us and lives inside us.

Filmaffinity doesn't tell us much about what we're going to find in this film:

And this has been the constant since this movie was announced, which I'm still analyzing whether I liked it or not. Everything that was written about Nope! was of a hermetic style that not only failed to dampen the desire I had to see it, but increased my desire and my desire to know more, not only because of the good name that its director has earned with past productions, but because these films had memorable and unique scripts that separate it from any previous horror film.

But the hermeticism came down to the words of friends who share impressions of films in a cinephile group I'm affiliated with. No one had words to describe this film, and upon seeing it I understood why. This is an unclassifiable film, it is many things and at the same time it is none.

The first thing I have to admit is that I was not scared at all, maybe some scenes with the blood of people being devastated by a monkey, but in reality what scares me about this film are not its scenes or its arguments, what really scares me is the ease with which people sell their souls to gain fame and recognition, it scared me to think of parents who give their children, some children, to the voracious monster of fame and the famous houses in Hollywood Hills, to end up being devoured and annihilated by the industry.

The real terror lies in our desire to achieve fame at any cost, and worse, having managed to cause a real trauma despite that, we will not rest until we get back the precious lost position. Jorden Peele shows us with absolute mastery how close we are to losing our humanity (either by death or loss of dignity) in order to get a few dollars or to appear even 15 minutes on Oprah Winfrey's show.

The luminosity of the film deserves a separate mention, we are not used to watch horror movies in broad daylight, I hate it when I can not fully appreciate the image of the monster that haunts the protagonists. In NOPE, on the other hand, not only does it show it to us, but we also have impressive close-ups that help to clarify a little bit what we are dealing with. And so we decide whether to be scared or not. The director first plays hide and seek with the monster and then shows it to us in all its splendor. A masterful move.

The aesthetics also do their thing, the pastel colors pretending to play on terror, the costumes that do not seem to have an era, but are shown as the eclectic selection of a timeless fashion that invites us to think of a timeless work, a game that he has also used in his previous films. Getting us to identify with the characters.

Although I consider that the best actors in the film were the horses, I can not fail to mention the sympathy of Keke Palmer, with his spark, his dances and his spontaneity, a rehearsed sympathy, but so real that even produces many smiles, as opposed to his brother in the film that seemed that depression had ended with his will to live.

After writing this review I realize that I really liked the movie, it has the charm of the 80's era, but with electric motorcycles and high resolution digital surveillance cameras. So if you haven't seen it yet, there's still time.
